That's a great pinball shirt that Josh has "Tilting is Trying".
I guess I tried too hard during one of my games in the charity tournament.

Thanks Jodester for hosting the tournament and pinball party. Sure was a lot of fun.

TigerLaw and PavBall bought/brought a whole bunch of door prizes to also give out. Very nice of you both.
I'm not quite sure how best to thank you for my prizes I was so lucky to have won.
The Alien action figure has "metallic flesh", and it is an "adult collectible - not a toy".
Currently I still have the official Arrested Development Tobias Dress Up Magnet set in its original package.
I'm thinking it will be worth a lot more as NIP (New in Package).

    #23 4 years ago
    Quoted from PoBoyPinball:

now if some one can help me figure out how to become a IFPA member that would be great.

I sent Jodester an email, and I sent you a PM with same info copied and pasted.

    #27 4 years ago

I500 will stay set up at Jodester's for now. It played pretty good during the charity tournament. I usually take pics, but didn't take any last weekend. Glad others took some pics.

    Quoted from TigerLaw:

On a related topic, how do "side tournaments" work? Can we have those when we host project pinball tournaments and other types of tournaments?

I and/or Jodester can help you with this TigerLaw. Feel free to call whenever.
Yes, you can have a Main tournament and a Side tournament at the same 1-day pinball tournament event.
We just have to fill out two separate Submit New Tournament forms on IFPA website at least 30 days in advance of the Aug 13th date that you are considering. Thus, we have time to address getting this done.

    #38 4 years ago
    Quoted from Zukboy2002:

I played 2 tournaments this year 3rd place in one and 2nd in the other and I have 0 points. Can someone explain why I have 0 points?

We will get it figured out. I see that Preston has no LA IFPA points and he won the tournament, so it could be that the names have been entered thus far, but not the associated points earned yet. Or there could be a mistake that needs to get resolved concerning one or both tournaments you played in.

    #39 4 years ago
    Quoted from Zukboy2002:

I played 2 tournaments this year 3rd place in one and 2nd in the other and I have 0 points. Can someone explain why I have 0 points?

The first tournament you played in earlier this year in NOLA did not earn many points. I see that Jake won and only earned 0.07 IFPA points, and 2nd place person earned 0.01 points. The other 3 players did not earn points. More points get earned for placing in larger tournaments that have more players and playing a larger number of games/matches. Call if needed to go over this on IFPA website.

    Quoted from radium:

    There's a club?

Zukboy is hosting a pinball tournament in Houma on Sat July 16th that you are welcome to join in on.
It's only $20 to enter. You'll get to meet some Louisiana pinball players and likely a few from MS and/or TX.

There is an event created on the GCPC Fb pg, and you can see it listed in the Tournaments - Calendar section on
    ifpapinball dot com website.

The tournament is partly an excuse to have a pinball party and hang out together.

    #68 4 years ago

They may still have some black GCPC shirts left. Not sure what sizes. They are different than the Moncla mafia shirts.

    Quoted from iceman44:

WTF, why isn't "central Texas" included?

I'd like to nominate iceman44 to be Director of Pinball Parties for the Central Texas Chapter of the Gulf Coast Pinball Club.

Hello gang. Im a new pinsider from new iberia la getting into this hobby. Getting a wwe le and then a ghostbusters le also. Pinball is so much fun!!!

    Welcome epichoff,

Look fwd to meeting you and playing some pinball.

As you probably already know, pinball out on location in most of Louisiana is rather slim pickings (except, Shreveport has games in various places). Fortunately, in the past five years or so, quite a few pinball enthusiasts around the state have started buying/fixing/collecting pinball machines, and several are here on Pinside.

You are welcome to join in on a small pinball tournament in Houma, LA on Sat Jul 16th if it fits your schedule.

    #161 4 years ago

I see that Lloyd still has his 1979 Gottlieb Pinball Pool machine. I've got one that still plays pretty well.
That's cool that you went there to check out his place, and spend a little bit of money there.

    #173 4 years ago
    Quoted from TigerLaw:

Awesome! Come check out the Golden Nugget. It is even nicer than LaBerge.

I checked out the Golden Nugget last Fri night for the first time when I went to a rock concert.
Also hit the Fri night casino buffet and walked along the boardwalk by the waters edge.
They have a small marina/boat dock, and an outside beach style bar & grill.
The boardwalk runs the full length from Golden Nugget to L'auberge.

    #174 4 years ago

This new machine announcement thread will probably get a lot of posts tomorrow.
It's already got the little flame by it in the main Forum page.

Note: This is the Enthusiasm Phase at the moment. The bitching will come later on.

    #175 4 years ago

Your mission Tiger should you chose to accept it is to find out what pinball machine, if any, is in the arcade at the Golden Nugget.

    #177 4 years ago

Their website mentions pinball, so i think we should "call" them on it, and try to get them to install at least 2 machines, and get rid of some of that other crap. Im being serious (in a friendly manner).

    #180 4 years ago

No picture of a pin, but the wording in the arcade tab specifically mentions pinball, maybe twice iirc.

    #211 4 years ago
    Quoted from PavBall:

    Hello from Greece.

Nice view overlooking community, surrounding hills, and waters edge.

Please clarify the rest of the wording on Tiger's shirt. I see: Sons of Liberty, Join to th...??
The snake looks like the "Don't Tread on Me" snake. Related or same I assume.

    Have a great week!

    #223 4 years ago

We only got the main tournament created before the 30 day window for the upcoming July 16th tournament in Houma. If we do have a side tournament in Houma, it would not award IFPA points.
The main tournament will earn IFPA points.

    #224 4 years ago

    Tiger or Pav,
Please post a pic of Pavball t-shirt in my Pinball T-shirt Collections thread I started in the past month or so.
Your pic made me chuckle. Pavball is great!

    #227 4 years ago

Keep it in All Pinball please.

    #228 4 years ago

I believe Jodster will be TD for your Aug 13th tournament, since I am TD for the Houma, LA tournament. I will be TD if necessary.
You & Jodster to register your tournament events on IFPA website by July 12th or sooner.

    Quoted from PoBoyPinball:

Had to feed my pinball buying addiction last night

    Congrats on getting a 70's Gottlieb e-m.
    Backglass artwork looks great!
Cabinet has been re-painted, and is not original, but it seems like someone did a pretty good job on it.
Playfield artwork is sort of basic, but the earth in the middle is cool, and so is the rocket on the spinner.

Hope you will keep it for a while, or trade it to a club member.
We could use it for local LA / se TX tournaments. We don't have very many e-m's.

Fun trivia facts about your new (to you) 1972 Gottlieb Outer Space e-m pinball machine:
    * 2,350 were produced
    * The 4-player version of this machine is called Orbit, 3200 produced.
    * Outer Space & Orbit were just about the only machines ever produced that incorporated all three of these particular playfield features:
    {spinner, ball save gate in outlane, & a vari-target}.
    * The only other machines that I found to sort of have all three is by Recel/Petaco (of Spain) in 1976, called Underwater (4-pl) & Torpedo (1-pl), but those pins had a roll-under gate in upper playfield, and not a ball save gate down by lower right outlane.
    * Gottlieb was the first to utilize vari-targets, starting in 1969, and they were the primary company to use this type of target from the late 60's to mid 90's.
    * Chicago Coin came out with their "Power Targets" also in 1969. Their design was somewhat different than the Gtb's vari-target, but they only used them in one machine model ever, -- called Action.
    * Gottlieb was first to use spinning targets (spinners) starting in 1963 in Swing Along.
    * Bally was first to provide a Ball Save Gate in the right outlane around 1964.

Also, it really does look like zombies broke your backglass.

See you Sat. Get ready to play some Beat Time and RFM.

    #295 4 years ago

I knew when I wasn't hearing any trash-talking out of the Houma gang leading up to the tournament, that likely that meant they were practicing and keeping it all low-key.

I'm curious where the 1st, 2nd, 3rd place trophies will be heading to after the tournament (to MS, to se TX, to sw LA, to NOLA, or staying in Houma)??

And, we should have several ladies competing in this tournament. Let's see what kind of pinball skills the ladies will be throwing at us.

    #302 4 years ago

Thanks TigerLaw. Glad you had a good time.
You placed ahead of me two tournaments in a row now. Definitely something wrong with that.

Here's a couple pics taken at the tournament:
Not quite everyone in the group pic that was taken just before 1st round matches started.
We had players from 4 states entered in this tournament (AL, LA, MS, & TX). 17 players total.

I'm thinking September for a Shreveport Tournament.

    Way to go Nevus!
Please clarify if this particular tournament is planned to be a standard tournament or a charity tournament.
This can affect the name of the tournament among other things.

    #337 4 years ago
    Quoted from Nevus:

I'm kind of partial to the Black Knight Invitational

May I offer a few suggestions for tournament names:

    * Black Knight Invitational Pinball Tournament 2016 - None Shall Pass!
    * Brave Sir Robin Pinball Tournament 2016
    * Red River Castle Anthrax Pinball Tournament 2016 ...{It's a Win-Win!}
    * Red River Gorge of Eternal Peril Pinball Tournament 2016
    * Knights of the Round Table Invitational Pinball Tournament 2016
Note: May need to avoid possible copyright/naming issues if cash/prize awards. ??

We are thinking about doing the Oil City Open on a Sunday so Allen can make it.
Does Sunday October 9 work for some of you guys?

Yep. That's a good date. Thanks for checking.
Sundays are better for me in Oct.

    #342 4 years ago

    Here's another possible name:

Nevus and Nutthead Red River Pinball Tournament

    #345 4 years ago

Henry might try harder in the tournament if there is a real prize awarded, not just a trophy & money.
You know, something like a toy space ship or a tractor, or an r/c car.

    #358 4 years ago
    Quoted from Nevus:

My next outing is a road trip for BBB pickup!

Will you be stopping for refreshments at any places along the way that have poles and tube dancers?

    #376 4 years ago

Welcome to the madness Seth. Awesome moment to capture with photos. That's a keeper picture.

The art on the backglass is sorta funny; the lady is so smoking hot that the waiter can't even pour the drink properly.

    Five pop bumpers is cool.

Cabaret was William's 1st machine produced (late 1968/early 1969) to have the up-post between the flippers.
Chicago Coin came out with this feature earlier in 1968, but Williams patented it.

There was 3,852 Cabaret pinball machines produced, so it is not rare. Yours seems to be in good condition.

Sept 24 looks like my best day for a tournament in Shreveport. I'm going to reach out to a few folks to nail down the format and time.
    I'm looking forward to it.

If it fits your schedule, perhaps consider starting the tournament between 1 and 3 pm.
That gives the out-of-town / out-of-state players time to drive to your place, and time to drive home later.
For example: If tournament is to start at say 2 pm, then let people start arriving between Noon to 1:45 pm to relax for a bit and practices a few games before tournament start time.

    #390 4 years ago

Could do best 3 out of 5 matches on winners side of the bracket, and best 2 of 3 matches on losers side of bracket. I like dbl elim format.

    #392 4 years ago

Thought you would like that compromise, since it was the losers side of bracket that slowed things up at the July tournament.
Less points will be earned when less games being played. Just something to keep in mind.

Also,...thoughts on side tournament for the RRR event? Have one? or skip it to save time?

    #395 4 years ago

He beat the biggest pinball player ever!

    #414 4 years ago
    Quoted from Leakyfaucet:

I feel so lost when y'all talk about the tournaments.

I wouldn't worry too much about that right now. You'll catch on at Romp in the Swamp if you can make it.

Your mission at The Romp Leakyfaucet, should you choose to accept it, is to:
    *have fun playing pinball
*meet and hang out with other local pinball enthusiasts
*feel good about donating some $$ to a good cause, Project Pinball, which is a charity org that helps place pinball machines in children's hospitals and other hospitals for kids to play while going through medical treatment and recovery.
*enjoy the chance to beat TigerLaw on his own machines, and be able to milk the bragging rights for months (watch out for Pav throwing a counter-punch to humble you back in place).

    #420 4 years ago
    Quoted from Nevus:

Copy that. Tiger cake can do!

Lots to work with that day. Tiger's b-day, and LSU Tigers play football at Auburn Tigers that same day.

    Umm Arcade,
It would be nice if you and family would take a lot of nice scenic pics while on vacation.

Safecracker machine being used in the side tournament called Assault the Vault.

Thanks TigerLaw, Pavball, and Jodester for making this a Project Pinball charity fundraiser tournament. It's a Win-Win!

    #491 4 years ago

Romp in the Swamp is a fundraiser tournament for Project Pinball.

    #495 4 years ago
    Quoted from fumbleflippers:

Rerouted again, new ETA 5:30, go ahead and start without me.

Great to meet you fumbleflippers. Hope you enjoyed your time over here in SW LA, even though it was a lot of extra driving for you to get here.

LA interstates and highways get blocked quite often for wrecks, but over the years only occasionally for high water.
Those road closures in different parts of LA messed things up for at least 3 or 4 other people trying to get here for this charity fundraiser pinball tournament.

    #499 4 years ago

Allen clearly dominated throughout the tournament on Sorcerer. He won a game on it every match I believe.
This machine came out in 1985, is fun to play, has great artwork, 2-ball multi-ball, and is a Mark Ritchie design.
It sure was fun having Allen in the tournament.
He gets pretty wound up, and really gives his hat a hard time after a wicked ball drain.

Varkon (1982) was an equalizer pinball machine for me during the tournament to help me win a few games.
This early 80's machine has an upper and lower playfield, and is housed in a video arcade style cabinet.
Unknown if a Varkon has been used in other pinball tournaments, but since only 90 were ever produced, I'm fairly certain this is not a common occurrence, and is definitely the 1st time one was ever used in a Louisiana pinball tournament.

    #500 4 years ago

Links to Fb to Romp in the Swamp tournament event.
Jody posted a couple pics and tournament results here.

Just mentioning that Nevus created an "event" for the Sep 24th Red River Replay pinball tournament that he is hosting.
On Pinside, click on Events, then click on September to adv calendar to next month.
Then click on the correct dot on Sat Sep 24, and you should be able to indicate if you are going or not. So far there is only 4 Pinsiders listed as going.

    #513 4 years ago

There is a Joust pinball for sale on Pinside out of St. Louis, MO for $4950.
This machine is a ton of fun to play at pinball parties and at expos/festivals.
Can't afford it myself, but would be willing to go in on a group purchase.

    Quoted from Nevus:

I hadn't thought of it, but I wasn't planning to bring games. Do you want it just to support the show or for a specific reason like placing our games? I had a good time last year just hanging out in the tournament room.

    Quoted from TigerLaw:

I don't think we need a booth. I was just responding to Pinball-is-great. The tournament area will be my hang out spot this year for sure.

Just to clarify a bit, I only meant to have a section of the floor space to group our machines together like we have done at TPF.
I realize some club members may not be bringing machines to Hou Expo. I usually bring one machine to Hou Expo and to TPF.
Last year I brought an e-m machine, so I actually ended up placing it in the e-m pinball machine area.
No big deal if we don't have a club area for GCPC & ArkLaTex Pinball Club, but I do prefer it when we group our pins together.

I definitely don't want to have a formal booth with tables, since we are not selling merchandise/parts.
If we do get a club area, I definitely don't expect anyone to sit in our area behind a table doing nothing.

    #668 3 years ago

Sill amazed that we got to play a BBB, a SC, an AMH pinball machine, and others, all in excellent condition, in a pinball tournament in Louisiana. Really cool. Thanks Nevus! I had a great time (except for LSU losing).

    #675 3 years ago

If we are gonna pick teams, I'll take Megatron on my team. He will help out a lot distracting players on the other team.

    #683 3 years ago

I'll help keep an eye on Megatron, take him for a walk outside, make sure he has water, etc. Temperatures outside should be nice this weekend.

Lsu vs Fla football game has been postponed due to hurricane. So the Lsu game will not be going on during the Sat pinball tournament. Resched date/time not set yet.

Based on your Pinside online name KornFreak, I'd say yes, welcome aboard. But hold up a sec. Laredo is technically south Tx, not Se Tx. So, I don't know.
Are you planning to go to the upcoming Houston Arcade and Pinball Expo in Nov, and are you willing to bring a pinball machine and have it set on free-play, and/or have a machine for sale there?
You could join the Ark-La-Tx Pinball Club. They have a Facebook Group, and most of the same members as GCPC.

    #716 3 years ago

I was just goofing around last night with my post above KornFreak. Yes, we're happy to have you. Sounds like your TAF pin will be impressive.

    Hey TigerLaw,

Looks like Sorcerer backglass artwork was selected to be on TPF-2017 t-shirts.
    Good choice.
With over 60 t-shirts at home, I definitely don't need another one, but will likely get one.
For those that don't know, Sorcerer came out in 1985 by Williams.

I hav good memories of playing OXO w/ friends back in mid/late 70's at a big laundromat near Purdue Univ campus. Can still here the clanking bell sounds on the old 70's e-m's.

IFPA usually sets the date of the state pinball championship tournaments to be on the Sat after Super Bowl Sunday.
This coming Feb, IFPA has the state tournaments set for Sat Feb 11, 2017. (Super Bowl Sun is Feb 5th, 2017).

What about Sat Jan 21 or Sat Feb 4th for a pinball party and a fun small tournament?
March weekends not looking good for me. Too much going on.
Easter Sunday is not until Sun Apr 16th, so no conflict there.

That town in Indiana is only about an hour from where my family lives at up there.
It would cool to bring a Joust pinball down to south Louisiana.

    #925 3 years ago
    Quoted from TigerLaw:

Subject to approval from Pinball-is-great I want to do a non-IFPA sanctioned split flipper doubles tourney at the SCS. It would be after the first few rounds so as not to interfere with SCS.

That should be acceptable to most everyone. Those that don't want to join in due to needing to head home after the state championship tournament will be able to leave. Being a non-IFPA tournament is fine with me. I will focus on the state tournament, and let someone else oversee the doubles side tournament. I'm in on the doubles tournament, but I'm gonna pass on having Megatron as my doubles partner.

    Quoted from PoBoyPinball:

Man how do you find all of those games?

    Quoted from PoBoyPinball:

I know you wont give this up but you sure aren't hunting were everyone else is CL, Ebay and so on. You sure manage to find games the rest of the world doesn't seem to know about. You have some killer hunting grounds... and some nice games to prove it. Must be your operator connection?

Don't give in. Resist. Throw him off-track. Feed him some fake news.

    #1082 3 years ago
    Quoted from Spg101:

Are you guys routing games or mostly HUO machines? I think I need an AC/DC next to my WoZ but need to play it. Never seen one before. I can tell you have to play before buying. Some of the heavy hitters are not my favorites...

I have a collection, but I don't operate any machines out on location.
AC/DC is quite a different theme than WOZ. I don't think they would look good next to each other.
I like AC/DC machine pretty much, and if you get one, I know how to solve that little issue.
Get a 3rd machine to put in between them.

Then once you have at least 3 machines, that is enough to throw pinball parties.
Once you get 4 or 5 machines, you can also start hosting small pinball tournaments.
Then when you get 8 to 10 machines you can throw killer parties and host larger tournaments.

    #1099 3 years ago

I might bring a machine, since I found out you just have to have it set up ready to go by Fri 4pm.

We have not yet added it to IFPA calendar.

    #1125 3 years ago

I would volunteer to help enter and run tournament, but I likely will be visiting family in Indiana in late May. So, sadly, I won't be there to hang out w/ my pinball friends. Major bummer.

    #1128 3 years ago

I registered on TPF website to bring a classic ss Gottlieb pinball machine.
Looks like 370+ pinball machines registered as of Tue afternoon 3/21/17.
Plan to set it up in the ArkLaTex Pinball Club & Gulf Coast Pinball Club area.

Starting to get pumped up about TPF.

The May 6-7th weekend would work for me.
If on May 6th, then I assume we could watch the Kentucky Derby on tv in the gameroom around 5 to 5:30pm?

    #1177 3 years ago

Moncla's recently announed date for their Shoot Again tournament will be on Sun Apr 30th (if they got it registered in time).

Hou Arcade and Pinball Expo is Oct 20-21, 2017. They moved it up into Oct due to a scheduling issue.

Feel free to call Nevus to discuss your possible party/tournament in May.

    Quoted from Spg101:

While I'm improving my flipper skills, im definitely not tournament ready. However I would really like to watch some quality players to see if I can pick up some techniques. I can bring some "good beer"

Just go to Arcade's and KingNine's pinball tournament in Beaumont, TX on Sun Apr 30th.
You'll get to meet 20 to 30 players that enjoy pinball, and it's not a major tournament, so you don't need to feel all intimidated.
They are having a main tournament, and also a side tournament that is pingolf format. We can explain it all to you when you get there.
They have an event created on Facebook for it under the Gulf Coast Pinball Club group pg.

    #1200 3 years ago

You guys really should just consider entering both tournaments or at least the side tournament.
I really don't know why you are feeling all timid about it all.
No one is gonna yell in your face "I beat you".
I mean, come on Spg, you're holding a 4 ft tall trophy.
A couple reasons why we hold local/regional tournaments is just to have a reason to get together to play pinball, and to earn some IFPA ranking points for the current year. No big deal.

    Keep flippin.

    #1202 3 years ago

I'm willing to serve as Assistant to the Director of Pinball Parties & BBQs to help out as needed.
