Set your reminders! Registration opens for the Space City Open pinball tournament at the Houston Arcade Expo at noon on Sept 22. I am an assistant director if you have any questions.

This year we will also have a women's tournament on Saturday night. Online registration will open for that tournament on October 5. I will be the tournament director.

I don't know what to do.

I spoke with Tilt Studios corporate VP of Operations today. He was visiting the Monroe location and I happened to be there.

If they/we don't start getting more people playing pinball here in Monroe, these great machines are gonna be GONE by Spring. And it was not a ruse.

Only so much I can do.

They're ok with tourneys, but not on Saturdays because it's so crazy busy.

I've emailed the right person and proposed a "pinball workshop" to give people the basics of playing and give them a couple hours of unlimited play. No response as yet. (I'm about to follow up.)

I don't know what to do.

"Can y'all come out and play?"

I would love to do a tournament there but I can't do a weekday because of travel. What about a Sunday?

I don't know. Trying to get the Marketing director to return my contacts is like pulling teeth right now.

You guys just need to move to pinball Mecca, Lake Charles.

"Come to my business ASAP, or else!", said no successful business owner ever.

Okay, a bit sarcastic, but some truth there. I hope they give it some time and see what develops.

Perhaps you could try starting a selfie league. That's easier on peoples schedules. You cold try something like a once a month playoff get together. I'll bet you could have an un-official gathering and it wouldn't interrupt their normal flow.

There are a lot of helpful tournament players on tiltforums.

I agree... About 2 hours to Monroe from the Jackson area, so a Sunday afternoon might work, depending on what Sunday it is.
Saturday afternoon would be better, but there was a LOT of people there on the Saturday night that I came by to look.
Kind of like a carnival or state fair atmosphere.
The pinball machines are somewhat separated from the rest of the masses near a wall.
It might be possible to put up some of those walk separators you see to keep people in line for a movie theatre, to keep out running children and such from interfering with the machines and tournament play.
Nice place though and close access to the restrooms.
Very nice lineup of machines too, with brand new, 1st rate Stern machines.
Enormous place with good air conditioning and lighting.
The machines work off electronic key cards, purchased at a central Kiosk.

A lot of leagues do the selfie thing. That way you could play your games at any time and only need to be there during playoffs...

He might have come off that way a bit, but he's right. Not all the Tilt locations have pins, and if they don't get play, they're gone.

I had to figure out what a selfie league is. Yes, that would be the way to go for a league, but there just aren't any players around here.

I forgot about tiltforums. Thanks for the reminder.

Am hoping Tilt will go for my Pinball Workshop idea, but I'm hearing only crickets so far.

I feel the urge to expand my game room. Anyone know of a Guardians of the Galaxy close by that I can purchase?

You should be able to get a Pro quite reasonably with a little searching.

Hey friends! Who's playing pinball this weekend?

I've listed my Aerosmth Pro in the marketplace if you know anyone that considering a used game.

I'm out of town for the Moncla Oil City tourney next weekend.

I'm attending the Leesville tourney 10/12

I'm committed to stay in town for a boy scout event 10/25.

I'm sure sorry I have to miss some of these. October is a tough month for me.

    #4172 4 years ago

We loaded up a tourney for November 1, just a quick Friday night event like the last couple. We have not yet submitted it to the IFPA:

    https://pinside.com/pinball/events/scales-of-pinball-iv-2019

We are still planning to do another large Romp in the Swamp Event this year, but that looks like it will be early December. I’ll get with Jodester and PavBall this Tuesday on a December Romp.

    #4173 4 years ago

Lotsa church stuff this weekend (the pumpkins arrive tomorrow!) But I'm sure I'll find time to get to Tilt for a while.

Maybe I'll hold an impromptu class.

Planning the trip to Leesville on 10/12 along with my son, Chris. And a December Romp sounds GREAT!

    Sunday night..... GO COWBOYS!

    #4174 4 years ago

Im ready to watch the Kamara & Elliot running show Sun night. Hope its epic.
    Go Saints!

Been logging a bunch of time on JP2. Very fun game, and probably my favorite at Tilt. Speaking of the games at Tilt...

BK and SW are growing on me. You have to really maintain control on those, and misses make you pay.

GOTG is essentially the same game as Aerosmith. Different layout, but really, the same game in terms of modes, objectives, features, multiballs, etc.

Iron Maiden loves me and I seem to shred it pretty consistently. I've even gotten tired of playing it a couple times -- despite how much fun it is to play.

Beatles, well, I haven't reached even half of the GC score (it's a real score) and I have no idea how they got that much. (>5 Million)

I'll probably spend a little time down there this afternoon -- and try to help the noobs when I can.

    #4184 4 years ago

Good pinball day today. Personal best on Aerosmith at home. 1.4B. But still a bit short of your 1.5B GC Jodester !

Then went to Tilt and played The Beatles like a fiddle. 6.9M. GC on all 7 of those machines now! Come knock me off. I know y'all can!

    #4185 4 years ago
    Quoted from scottslash:

Come knock me off. I know y'all can!

Host a tourney there. You’ll need to play a format where the players pay the machine fees. That can somewhat impact the structure of the tournament as far as format options, but I’ve seen it work for tourneys before. Make sure they have the machine keys present for stuck balls.

    #4186 4 years ago

After my vacation, I'll do some thinking/research on that. Never hosted nor organized a tourney. Let alone one in this sort of environment. Will be interesting to see if anyone shows up.

I worked in New Jersey for about a year and unless he is used to cold weather, he going to wish he was back South when the whiteout hits and the snow blows horizontally... I never realized that you might need a humidifier until I lived up North and I realized that dry skin makes you itch all over. Never had any nosebleed problems until I realized no humidity could cause that problem also. Every day in the winter was miserable in the arctic tundra region and then you had to shovel snow and I did not even have a snow shovel.

I survived 7 winters in Minot, North Dakota. New Jersey won’t be a problem.

Just a reminder the Nutten Special tournament is this Saturday Oct 12th in Da Shed (my place) practice starts at 11:00 if you’re a little early that's okay. Since it’s looking like Saturday we will finally have a break from the heat and have a little fall weather it is looking like we are going to cook up a batch of chili, we will have some other food and snacks as well. I'll have some waters to drink but bring what you want to drink if you want something a little stronger.

If you need a address or directions let me know.
