Seems high, the average price is about $2500 according to the game database. If the PC has issues that are revealed by running the machine for a few hours after you buy it, or the monitor has problems that will cost a lot. Not to mention other playfield parts/shop out costs when you go to do your regular maintenance.

However, that tax sticker hasn't been renewed since 2002. So although it has sat in a warehouse for 17 years, it has at most seen only 3 years of light to moderate play given how unpopular the game was and the time period. If the warehouse is dry and climate controlled the cabinet will be great. Your main factor will be the electronics.

Or it could a nice find under all that dirt

1000 if it works? Grab it and go.

In the last couple years, I think sellers have had a difficult time moving it over $2k. Ive seen a few nice examples drop to $1900 and $1800.

$1k is a good price either way. Even if it doesn't work, I'd throw in an offer. Original computers pop up occasionally, and you still can use pinbox with a modern PC.

#6 5 years ago

There is probably a reason it’s stuffed in the very back. I suspect missing parts and it might be a risky proposition.

Hopefully all parts are present. Good luck.

#7 5 years ago

I’ve owned Star Wars episode 1, it’s not a good pin. I would not recommend buying this pin at $1000, Unless you can verify it’s fully functional. I’d pass on this Star Wars and put that money towards a better pin

#8 5 years ago

Heck of a deal if it's working. I sell nice ones for $4K. Go plug it in.

People kill me saying it’s not worth the cost. I mean really! Everyone should jump on it for that price working or not. Just my opinion

#10 5 years ago

Is he selling the other arcade games? I’d be buying that Star Wars guaranteed, but I’d probably buy the other games too!

#11 5 years ago

For that price I would ship it here without seeing it.

#12 5 years ago

Buy it

He's in Greece. I don't think it's worth as much there as it is in the US.

What are the games in the back?

#15 5 years ago

I say buy it if its all there and working, not moisture damaged, etc. At worst you hate it, flip it for double and buy something you like better.

#16 5 years ago

But make darn sure it works. If it ends up needing a Nucore and a monitor you'll have to dump a small fortune into it.

Popular Pinball machines in Greece often cost MORE than in USA and other countries, because sellers get their prices from ebay & craigslist, and then add 1K just to be sure they will make good profit. An average/poor condition TAF might sell for 4000-5000!!
But... if you find a forgotten machine in a shitty warehouse the owner might ask for 500-1000$ a piece - no matter what machine it is.

(Sorry for the Greek)

#18 5 years ago

I think it is worth the cost. I've seen ones sell on Ebay and private auctions for around 3-4.5k. I personally wouldn't pay more than 3k for that machine...
To all the people who claim the game isn't fun. It's a fun game... In a small pin collection... Yeah, it gets old. But, part of a 10-15 pin collection I think its perfect. I love playing the game. But, I do get bored with it at about 10-30 minutes of playing it.
Lastly about the computer and CRT... CRT you can replace easy enough. Or should be able to. I'm not a pinhead and such with pinball repair. But, I am a computer tech and I think that is a simple enough repair to be honest. The hard part would be the mount. You might have to make a new/unique one.
As per the computer... Again... That should be fixable... And if it is bad. And you replace/repair it. It probably won't need to be fixed ever again in the life cycle or at least the next 20 years. I think fixing the pc could in fact be easier than fixing some of the rarer boards out there.
I think its a cool find. And if it works. Well worth 1k.
But, that's just what I think. And I could be wrong. Been wrong many times. But, again I think the game is fun. Not the best game, not the worst.

#19 5 years ago

really depends on what works means. lights up? starts a game?

#20 5 years ago

And of course the glass is original and reflect the CRT image.
If not original,it's is too expensive.
Even the PC and CRT are not working,it's not problem to run it with Pinbox system.
Just see if all parts are there, power board which is on the bottom of the cabinet is there and the plastics are in good shape.
The worst thing is if the machine not starting, you cannot see if the neon on the sword is working.

#21 5 years ago

He is asking 1000$ if it works

Why is everyone assuming he’s paying for a machine that isn’t working.

#22 5 years ago

I'm not sure how far away Trikala is from Athens, but maybe Provato can give you a hand to check it all out, seems to me to be a fairly good deal and as Provato suggests offer $700-$800 and don"t plug it in and give safety issues as the reasoning so he doesn't jack the price up on you.

#23 5 years ago

Hello guys

Thank you for the answers. You are reallly helping a lot.

Now few key points about all this.

1. The owner doesn't really care to sell. It happens to be an old friend of my pap's and so he let me in his storage.

2. 1000$ if it works. It means that he gave me all the freedom to access his place, to move all the electronics in the way, take it home, tested my self, and if I think that is working then he wants 1000$ (thus 800€).

3. Now in order to take it from there I will have to moved all the electronics in the way my self and put them back where I found them. That will take me an entire day and probably I will have to pay a day's work to someone just to help me out. If I take it home and then realised that it doesn't work I will have to take it back to him.

4. This pin is a 1999-2000 pin. Was first introduced in the Greek market about a year later. Thus 2001. The arcade electronic ban in Greece took place in 2002. That means that this pin worked for only one year. After that was stored until today for a long 17 years.

If you think transfering it is the hard part, then cleaning and restoring it will really seem impossible to you...

No I am not saying this. I am just stating all the facts. Cleaning and restoring is the fun part.

Got some play money? Go for it!

From what I was just reading, it was repealed in 2011.

Shuffling a whole bunch of games around can sometimes take a decent amount of physical effort.

#29 5 years ago

Since 2002 all arcade electronics are banned in Greece by law.
Don't ask why it's a really long story. One day I will post a thread with all the info about this.

Hugh?? Time to send Roger Sharpe to Greece!

A parliament member of the government was caught in a shady underground illegal "casino" feeding a slot machine in 2000. The government then decided to ban all coin-op machines everywhere in Greece...
because if your tooth aches, you cut the head...
The result: Illegal places continued growing and having slot machines, and arcades vanished.
Bad government decisions as always in here.

I love Pinside, getting history lessons and get to brush up on my Greek reading.

get to brush up on my Greek reading.

When I look at French or Spanish I think, I could learn that language. (Probably because of the familiar characters) I know a little of both, but im far from fluent.

When I look ar Greek or Russian or ect. It just blows my mind. I wouldn’t even know where to begin.

its the same all over Europe, people here seem to add like 2000 extra on the US prices they look up on ebay or craigslist and somehow think thats a good price for an old pinball.

That's so true unfortunately.

People with pins from 80s or even 70s some how believe that they own a treasure or something. When you are explaining them this this not how it works they think that you are trying to rob them or whatever!

Any way guys I just talked with the owner and we agreed on this:

I will take the pin home without paying any money. I will test it and I will inform him about the repairing cost if any. If the pin works perfectly and need no repairs at all I will pay him 1000$ (800€)

For any repairs needed we will reduce the cost out of the first price. E.g. if 100$ repairs I will then pay him 900$ etc

However if the repairing cost is more than 200$ (that is the limit) I will have to give him back the pin because in that case he prefers to keep it as a decoration for his coffee shop.

We agreed on this and I will take the pin home until the end of the month.

I trully believe that this is one of the best deals ever. Very honest and very fair.

Here in the states we call that the “old friend of pap’s deal” — congrats!

Even non working $1000 is a great deal.

#41 5 years ago

Even if the monitor doesn't work they can be fixed. I've rebuilt a few myself.

#42 5 years ago

Oooh, nice grab. I used to have a SWE1, and I think it’s a fun enough game based on a movie everyone was disappointed by, and I believe that hurt it more than it actually being “bad.”

Also, it’s a legit bit of pinball history as the last Williams game released.

There have been some cool Pinball 2000 projects (like Nucore) but this is a game that really cries out to have someone do some kind of amazing PROC upgrade for it.

#43 5 years ago

When you do get it, I'd be interested in some pictures of what you find out, how it cleaned up, if it works, etc. Might be an rather pristine game hiding under all that dust.

If it weren't for copyrights...
I have a ton of photos, scanned manuals, documents, stickers, decals, flyers, plastics and other artwork & oddities from pinball machines that I'd like to share but I don't know where.
I have even restored and cleaned most of the artwork in photoshop.
If my hdd dies, all that work is gone...

Holy crap. Clone your drive or buy a NAS and copy the contents there. If you're allowed to have personal copies, you're allowed to have backup copies for personal use.

Can't a person just take pictures of the cleanup or restoration and post? I wouldn't think that would be a copyright issue. Some weird Greece law?

Just curious.
