I have a pro and was able to nab some groot arms. But doesn't seem to be a good way to attach them. Any help?

#2246 1 year ago

Marcos had them. I got a set from someone who got one of those but there was no mounting hardware. Look like the right side would possibly mount to the end of the shooter lane but don't see anything

#2273 1 year ago

Hey seriously I have no way of mounting the groot arms on my pro. Are the plastics different? Does anyone know what parts I would need to order to get it to work? I don't really see any place on the left or right side to mount them. On the left side I am guessing I have a mounting bracket for the plastic that is on there, on the right side I see no way of mounting it. I feel like a jerk expecting someone to remove theirs just to see how they mount but I'd really appreciate some help.

Hey folks. I know Mezel Mods is well known and there are a few things I really like for this game. But it bugs me when something is too generic and I usually assume it's due to copyright laws.

I didn't model this so I didn't add any markup. I am not making money on this. But I took a model of the Sony Walkman and made it 4" wide. If you want one here is the link.

https://www.shapeways.com/product/Z4893S9YH/gotg-pinball-mod-tape-player?li=shop-inventory

I kept it in pieces to make it easier to paint, assemble, and to add lights and wiring.

#2288 1 year ago

Did a test print on the Walkman. The paint will be better on the second. Just wanted to see how it came together.

Heres an idea I've been working on for the Pro folks. So I printed off the actual orb and I was thinking about putting led's on both insides but I'd thought it'd be fun to put this stone in it and each end would just have an LED facing it. I have to mold and cast these but I'll probably make about 10 in clear blue. So all you'd have to do it print off the orb, but having this in between and this would light up on Orb multiball. What do yall think? I think since I have to mount the new ones with a different system I might as well split them apart and angle them out more.

#2298 1 year ago

I liked this game from the start. But the code seemed bland. After I got one I'm still on 1.0 but also just added Clelands Sound mod and it ups the game big time.

I don't understand how this game is so low on the list. But then again so is PZ and that's still my fave.

#2307 1 year ago

Did they stop making these for a bit?

#2309 1 year ago

Ok here is another shot of my next mod. So I am printing the orb at 3.25" as opposed to the stock 3". But hopefully this will look as good as I think. But hopefully I won't have to solder anything. For those with a pro do you think this is going to be too distracting or fun? Once again I have to mold and cast this piece in clear acrylic which is trick but hopefully it comes out okay.

Quoted from pinnyheadhead:

Ahh that looks interesting. Couldn't tell what you were up to in previous posts.

Things always seem better in my head. I'll admit this probably won't work with Premium/LE's but for those of of Pro(poor) folks I think we deserve something a little more interesting. If I had ended up with GB or ACDC I would have only wanted Premium. But the pro on the GOTG is actually just as good to me, I didn't need the 2nd and 3rd magnet.

But I knew I was gonna be able to spruce it up a bit. I plan on making 10 of the jewels, I have a friend that can print the orbs for people, the orbs are usually printed with PLA (lower end material) but for this it's okay. I want to get 1 nice one done before I show folks.

#2327 1 year ago

I redesigned this again and have 2 prints to choose from. I haven't had any issues with the ball jumping all over the place except the left ramp. I wanted to make sure that if the ball hits the jewel, it won't just break off so I made a better support system.

Has anyone had the ball jump up and hit the orb? Do you see it happening?

Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

What about casting it in silicone instead of hard resin?

I've only ever used silicone for creating the molds. I have to have a way of affixing this to the orb, I had planned on super gluing the hell out of one side in case I have to pull it apart. If I glue both sides to the orb it won't be easy to pull it apart. I wouldn't know how to glue it to the orb if I used silicone.

I haven't had an issue with the ball getting close to the orb, but I was curious if anyone else has had the problem.

Within a week of having the machine I replaced all rubbers with Titan rubbers and it definitely created more bouncing around the playfield. I've had the ball hit the glass once, but thankfully it didn't crack or break.

Quoted from Sparky:

Wait...you changed your user name, or is someone sharing the same avatar?

There was once another DirtMcGirt that scammed several people. I've only been on here a year but have had multiple people contacting me asking "Where's my stuff"

So since I didn't want to hear about it anymore I asked to change my name.

#2346 1 year ago

This won't be easy to cast. Might use the more broad design

I posted a thread in nodding. But I have this Zune lying around. Microsoft stopped supporting them. They're kind of useless. Can someone mod this to where it plays the movie and maybe the 2nd?If you have to regut it I don't mind. Can someone make it happen? I want to place it in the gap by the right ramp.

I don't know how to wire it can I power this through the head?

Quoted from murfe88:

I saw these at my local toys r US this morning. I think they were $13.00. Not sure were it could go on the machine. My wife said it look kind of cheesy. I though it looked ok.

I have the file on shapeways to print the real one at 4"

#2353 1 year ago

I want to replace the orb with the movie accurate one. The original is 4" and unfortunately too big for the machine. The original is about 3" and I made these about 3.25" This is what that blue gem will be going in. Most people that self print these just paint them silver and since it's organic it usually looks okay. But I want this to be fairly accurate and pop inside the machine so I tried a paint method that most people don't like doing because it's a finicky process. Anyway I should have these done next week here is a preview.

The gem with the tendrils was gonna be too hard to mold so I had to redesign it again. Ordered all the materials, mold started, if I'm not casting by Sun it'll be Sat.

Quoted from J85M:

Look great! Since you have hollowed out the orb could Premium and LE owners use these along with your new stone design?
With the hollowed out centres surely it could close on a 3D printed gem cover? Would look so much better than the single LED shining directly in your eyes.

I think I would have to cut off 1 side of the tendrils in order for this to close. I really intended it for the Pros, but I can try. My biggest fear is if it is not installed right and it tries to close and doesn't do so properly it could mess up the motor that closes the orb right?

I am confident we'll get the new orb to work right on the premium, but might have to design a different stone to go in the premium.

#2399 1 year ago

Thought I'd mess around with an idea. On shapeways you can order in a clear material and I was gonna paint it clear blue. This is so impossible to cast (for me) that the only option might be to order then paint clear. I don't know if it will work but I'll post an update. I think this might look cool in the Iron Maiden as well.

We'll see.

Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

Played my game for a few hours last night. Wow!
I'm so glad I decided to pick this game up, it plays like a dream and the code is fun and challenging. I almost got Cherry Bomb multiball last night, was one mode completion away.

This game really is one of the most underrated games I've seen over the past few years. I've played a lot and still haven't unlocked everything.

Stern did this to themselves not having decent if not bland if not TERRIBLE code when it was first released. But I still enjoyed it when it came out. I remember people who could just buy it immediately just kept ragging on it and giving it low scores. Now it's probably the best Stern game since Batman 66' in terms of video, game, and playfield.

#2474 1 year ago
Quoted from gameonmichigan:

Think this is the most underrated machine on Pinside right now. We have it on location and it makes more $ than any other machine we have including Star Wars Premium, Attack from Mars Remake LE, Walking Dead, etc... Longer play time and easier multi-ball to achieve is big for the more casual pinball players or people who are brand new to playing. Theme is really popular right now and most people really enjoy the music as well.

Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

I completely agree. We play at least 25 games a day at this point and are loving the hell out of it.

Until about a year ago I was never able to afford a pin, and freeplay really didn't exist around here unless DFW people were familiar with Texas Games which never had pinballs. Everyone always said, "Oh if you get a pin get Addams Family, or Medieval Madness, or Twilight Zone." I really thought one of those had to be my first. A friend has Twilight Zone and I spent 30 minutes with the glass off trying to unlock all the features after years of never getting anywhere on it. Even with cheating (yes I know it's cheating), I couldn't unlock all the features.

I haven't even come close to unlocking all the features on this game, but they are accessible. The theme is fun, the game although not "easy" is easy to read" the music is great (even better thanks to Cleland), and my friends love it.

It's sad so many people wrote this game off because of the initial code. I love it.

I've been working with another member on a custom topper. I think about 4 of these will be made. 2 of us wanted the Hot Toys Yondu for the topper and I am going to make it extra special. Here's a preview so far. I did a repaint on the Hasbro Milano. There is only one really good model out there, but it was a prototype with a projected cost of $4000.

But a repaint on a $20 toy, I am going to 3d print a blast trail behind it. Do a little magic with styrofoam and fiberglass and we'll see how well it turns out. I'm still gonna be less than the $500 for the real topper.

I'm not the greatest at sketching anymore, I'm okay when I'm on it for a year straight, but I do most of my stuff in 3d or photoshop now. Here is a rough (very rough) sketch of what the topper will look like. The rock stuff will be painted like orange space rock.

Quoted from Insane:

I think its awesome and would probably buy one, depending on the price.

I don't have a 3d printer yet, I still am weighing the pros and cons of PLA vs SLA. My biggest fear has been that once I buy a certain 3d printer, a better one will come out shortly after. I have to rely on a couple of friends to print the orbs and they take about a day to print. I guess I could cast one, but I have the jewels casted and the molds to make as many as I want, the problem is the mold has to heat up in the oven for an hour or so, then the resin takes 2 hours to cure.

If we get it wired up here pretty soon, if there is enough interest I might be able to do a run of 10-20. But like you said, it would depend on the price.

The paint alone for each orb to get that chrome metal look is about $20-$25 alone.

#2549 1 year ago
Quoted from J85M:

I have found in this hobby that if the mod is good enough to justtify the price then the cost is usually a non issue and yours onto something pretty nice with this especially if you can make a version that works with the Prem/LE.

I have a jewel that should work with the premium, but since my Pro is static I don't have to worry about mine closing, so we are going to figure out how to mount the orb properly for the premiums. I don't mean to bash the other mod places, but when I see people say they've spent $500-600 on mods, I know they've really spent about $500 on $20 worth of material. I can't really set up a side company or charge a lot since my job may not appreciate it, and I am deathly afraid of setting up my own company. But all it takes is a little extra time to make these things amazing. I wish some of the companies would spend a little more time making their stuff look a little more official. It really doesn't take that much more time.

Here are the ones that might work in the premium. I know it has to close so if a couple of ideas don't work I'll have to redesign one for the premium but this or one more could work.

Quoted from DeeGor:

So, I'm on the fence on picking up a pro model.
I've played them game at a show, and it felt fun, but I couldn't hear any of the callouts or music, and in all of the gameplay streams I've seen, the volume is always turned way down. How do people feel about the sounds in this game? It currently is the lowest score the game receives among reviews. I understand that there is a sound mod floating around, and it pulls in audio from the movies. Does this greatly improve the sound experience?

Yup. There's no audio of Bradley Cooper yelling "skill shot" so it mixes about 90 percent from movie and 10 from Stern. I don't know if that's the actual ratio but you get the point. It's way better and it's a fun ass game

#2562 1 year ago
Quoted from Sinestro:

Well, it wouldn't be Bradley Cooper anyway, as it's Quill that's yelling "Skill Shot!"

All the more reason the voice actors are unsettling. Seriously if I ever see Bradley Cooper or Chris Pratt, or any of them in fact, I'm gonna run up with my phone and they'll ask, "Oh would you like a selfie with me?!?" Me: "No Jerky, I want you to yell skill shot into the mic of my phone, ready...?"

Should have some big updates in the next week with most mods being installed. I am not even tech savvy so it's hard when I have all these ideas and no one to help wire it up. We're all busy and I'm up 20 hours a day, 7 days a week I am working on stuff, and it seems like there isn't even close to enough time to finish this stuff. So I am almost done with the topper I plan on selling. I am buying a 3d printer and this was just something I thought might help pay for it. I will also have the grills soon. The guy who is also having some made is making some Star Wars ones and after a few corrections we are almost ready.

Anyway here is what I have so far. The silver piece behind Rocket is going to hold a piece of acrylic, I had it 3d printed and I had a special cavity built in so I could have it hold an led strip and light the acrylic.

The Rocket is the Hot Toys version from GOTG 1 and I got it for a steal so I figured why not add it to the base.

Guys I started the thread 6 months ago and it took this long to get them going. I am making 20 custom Guardians of the Galaxy grills, they are made to exact specs as Stern's so everything will just screw right into place like it should. It took several prototypes of going back and forth until we got one that fit.

They will be ready in a week and I have 15 available at $140 each raw aluminum.

Hey folks. I am needing a little scratch for an upcoming project. A major project came up that made me halt some stuff so I need to get rid of a few things. I have this custom GOTG topper and it's almost finished.

This is hand made out of foam, covered in fiberglass so it's fairly permanent. The Milano is the Hasbro Milano that was meticulously repainted and the topper will include a posed Hot Toys Yondu ($300 on it's own). I am waiting on a 12" figure stand which will also be fiberglassed to the topper and I am going to repaint the topper to be a little more orange. OR! to whatever color that is more to your liking. It will be lit, I am going to wire an LED strip behind the first rock so it looks amazing.

I painted the Milano with a special chrome paint, a process in itself.

If you are interested please contact me, I need to free up some capital for about $300 worth of 3d printing. The Yondu comes with his arrow and a resin clear trail and will look pretty impressive once finished. Just seeing if someone wants to claim this, it should be finished by next weekend. And I can bring it to TPF if you are interested.

Quoted from Pinj135:

Those are really nice- price? And can you powder coat?

So far I think 8 are left, I wrote all the people who first contacted me about these I need to wait to see what they say.

check my thread and I will put names on a list. There are only 20.

I do not powdercoat, I am going to paint mine, they will come in raw aluminum, you may do whateve you like with them. These will be $140 + shipping. Think that the Stern factory grill is $190 powdered black.

Quoted from JodyG:

Anybody have photos of their Titan rubber conversions? I'm torn on colors.

I did light blue and it looks perfect to me. I'll take a photo tonight. GOTG is actually pretty easy to get to all the rubbers. I did my party zone and there were 30 year old screws that wouldn't budge. So I had to go to the store and get a whole baggie of new screws, eck.

Hey folks I finally have my lightning bolt flasher dome covers ready and up on shapeways.com. If you want these in clear resin select fine detail or smoothest fine detail for a more clear version. Paint with Tamiya clear if you wish.

This one was white because I got it here fastest. I have a more snug version coming but I didn't know if other machines would have the same clearance.

Anyway enjoy.

A few of these left, I painted this one clear orange over the raw aluminum and it didn't work well, so I cleaned it with acetone and got all of it off and repainted it with black sparkle paint them hit it with a few coats of gloss clear.

This is the only one in this color, I just saw the paint at Home Depot and figured why not.

I'm asking $160 + $20 shipping on this one. Let me know if you are interested.

It's been a minute since I have posted. I went on vacation which drained me and I'm back now. I installed the actual factory groot arms on my machine, I bought them separately from Marcos but didn't get any installation brackets. So Craig @ Fun! finally got me the brackets and there were literally ZERO instructions or specs on how to install them. So after pulling out the left ramp last night I spent about 2 hours being a dummy and trying to figure out how the metal plates attached. I only wanted to put on the left side as both seem distracting.

I'll post some pictures tonight. There is a plastic on the left side that doesn't fit so I had to remove it. I don't think I will install the right arm but I'll just leave the entire assembly in case the next owner wants to do something. I'm putting the big tape player on the right side.
