Can a few Premium/LE owners take a picture of the inside of the speaker area - back of monitor? I am looking to see the back of the 2 speakers and back of monitor hookups.

Thx

Quoted from AUKraut:

I'd contact Stern directly, as Stern now makes a metal protector for this with the numerous reports of breakages.

Hi,

Do you know what the part number is for that metal protector?

#1379 1 year ago

Ah ok - got it - thx.

Not - this is not the area that broke in post #1373. Looks like his broke near the back near the bumper.

#1382 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballaddicted:

Yep.. that is our machine with the broken plastic. Our broken plastic is the same plastic that breaks in the service bulletin.

I believe it is the same plastic - but I am not sure how the service bulletin would address where you plastic broke?
Unless I can see it? just curious. thx.

Quoted from frankmac:

Does the pro have the hole and split in the plastic next to rocket? I think that spot lifts up along with the metal rail being to low and ball jams in.

Hi,

How did you connect this underneath the playfield? Picture? Or is that just sitting in the hole? Also do you have dimensions of the plastics?

Thx!

Found this aluminum spacer (that’s what I will call it) in the bottom of my cabinet.

(Metal spacer in bag is used as a reference to help show size of aluminum spacer).

Does anyone know where this goes on my game - I have LE version.

Thx

Quoted from cartman5579:

Pulled out the side wall just a hair and now most of my orbit drops miss the slingshot. So good fix on that one. Orb drop target is still not dropping all the time, I’ll work on that one another day I suppose. I’m very tempted to turn the mode select back on when starting a ball, but it feels like cheating I’ll keep working on that scoop shot. I just wish there was a consistent method to hit it.

Can you post a picture with arrow of which rail you moved?

#2046 1 year ago
Quoted from twenty84:

I had this issue on mine. There was a small spring on the target accessible from the bottom of the playfield that seemed to hold the drop in the locked position. It looked like there were similar attachment points for a spring on the other side but my mech only had one. I thought maybe the one spring was putting asymmetric torque that caused it not to drop as easily. I thought about adding a spring to the other side but started by just removing the spring which seemed to completely resolve for me so I haven't looked into it further.

Can you post a picture of the area , spring?

I am making an orb protector that incorporates 2 protectors into 1 plastic protector:
1. Protect back left corner (much thicker) and overall plastic protector
2. Incorporates the "upfront" protector that is sold at Pinballife. This is sold to stop airballs.

Also, you can slip in the metal bracket that Stern sends out as well.
I am making a few for myself.

IF anyone else is interested, ping me.

I’ll send you a pic of the metal wall when I get home tonight. Sorry I didn’t do it yet.
Also, pointless for me, since my orb plastic was broke by an air ball on day one.

Thx in advance for posting pictures.

Do you have the front protector which helps stop airballs? That is the reason for incorporating both.

Question, by moving magnets closer to playfield is there any concern with magnet burn of playfield?

#2141 1 year ago

Wow - cheaper install and brackets between Guardians vs Ghostbusters.

Watch video. (I can see how this would make a difference in grabbing the ball now).

#2154 1 year ago
Quoted from HeadRush:

I was checking out my magnet today and I was surprised to see how hot it was. I could feel the heat through the playfield. Underneath, it was extremely hot to the touch. Anyone else have this going on?

Did you add the washer to make it closer as described above?

If not, is it hot all the time - something must be shorted. I would disconnect if it is and troubleshoot it.

PM me if interested. I know it fits premium/LE - have not tested on Pro yet.

Made from 1/8” Pet-g plastic!

Orb Airball protector - combines a few things:
1. Upfront Orb - airball protector
2. Back left protector of the original plastic- usual area that cracks by airball
3. Overall protector of original plastic everywhere.

Any concern about playfield magnetic burn by doing this?

#2422 1 year ago
Quoted from Sinestro:

Yes. Add two washers and get the core up against the playfield.

Agree.

Does that core get hot? Didn’t older games like Adams Family have issues with magnetic burn? I don’t know details- does anyone know.

Finally in the club. Got my ulek protectors and shaker motor installed. My first nib and it was almost surreal opening that box and seeing how beautiful this game is and how lucky I was to have one. Hard to believe it's right here in my basement. Blast to play and just over the top for me.

Got our premium last week, and are really enjoying it. Had to the fix the orb drop target since the ball would get caught there (Adding the washer seems to have fixed it). If I add the washers to get the Core closer to the playfield is there any concern about playfield magnetic burn by doing this? (Older machines has this problem with burning playfield- I think Addams Family. Not sure if this was exact same issue).

Does that core get hot? OR is it the coil that gets hot.

Anyone that has done this - see any issues? Any experts in this area weigh in too - please.

(Also does leveling the playfield address the magnetic ball grab without add washers to the core?)

Thx

Quoted from TomGWI:

I’ll have to check what my incline is. The bubble on the Game level is in the middle of the upper line but not between the 2 lines.
I removed the 2 washers and magnet is working fine. I noticed that magnet gets super hot and I would rather have it away from the wood.

Was the coil hot (which I would expect)? Or was the steel core hot? I assume this is where you had the 2 washers under the core?

Thanks - I am debating on installing so I don’t get playfield burn.

Quoted from Skyemont:

Thanks. Its fixed now. Now to fix the drop target issue.

What was the fix?

#2794 1 year ago
Quoted from MapleSyrup:

This may have already been covered here, but I had an issue with my Orb Drop Target not dropping. In coil test, I could see that the coil was in fact firing, but it seemed too weak to pull the bracket up and drop the target.
I tested the voltage of the coil, and it was fine.
My next assumption was that the bracket was getting jammed somehow. I found that when I placed the drop release bracket directly in the Center of the mech... it worked properly. So, I tried to get it to sit there using thin washers... but that didn’t work. In fact it made the issue worse.
My solution to the problem was VERY rudimentary, but it worked like a charm.
I simply torqued the entire mech slightly towards the lockdown bar. I surmised that this would leave the bracket with less distance to travel to grab the magnet, and drop the coil. It works perfectly now.
I applied gentle steady pressure to the entire mech, which bent the bracket ever so slightly and solved the issue. I hope this info is helpful.

Did you try what 89RedLX did above? I think by pushing on it you did the same thing?

Quoted from pinballjj:

THe more common issue with the orb drop target is that it does not drop when the ball is locked behind it, this service bulletin addresses the drop target not staying up( due to target not catching on ledge) vs not dropping( not being pushed off ledge)
I see marco has a listing for a new drop target assembly with a different configuration of the coil relay( magnet ) and trigger plate , looks similar to bally revenge from mars drop target, does anyone with a newer machine have this assembly ?

I am curious also? Anyone with newer machine have this style?

Also, did Marco use the right picture?

Quoted from cyberkryten:

I've only just realised that the triangular signed cards on my LE at the bottom of my playfield should be illuminated.
Looking at the manual, these both seem to be on Lamp #277 along with the rest of the lower play field GI so I don't think its an issue with Node Board 8 (but I disconnected and reconnected the connector CN15 anyway which made no difference).
It seems that both come off a single connector to the loom (see pic) - I've disconnected and reconnected both sides of that (both connectors are female with a male-to-male joining piece inbetween.
I'm not sure what to do/check next. Its possible both LEDs are faulty (but probably unlikely), should I just connect up a spare LED to the pins on the joining piece and see if that works? Can I measure for a voltage across those pins (and what am I looking for).
Are there any other connectors/joints I may have missed? Node Board 8 is at the top of the play field so the wires run down the table but there are loads of wires so its hard to trace (but I can't really find any breaks).[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Disconnect and measure the game side (not the led side) and I believe you should get 5vdc.

I asked Cleland directly and his response was the following.
Yes! You can run the Stern 1.06 update over it, just be sure to use the default settings. Do not do image verify or anything like that and it will leave the modified sounds alone as they have not changed places over the last few updates.
I did this with 1.04 and it did keep everything. Assume the same for this update, can anyone confirm.

Is there a step by step on how to do this?
Thx

#3134 10 months ago
Quoted from TechnicalSteam:

1.0.6 Install Confirmed - Requires - Full Update option
-Note you may see Spanish when updating but it will work.

So how do you do a full update?

Also, by doing a full update does that keep CLELAND mods intact?

I emailed Stern to let them know about the Pro update for 1.06. My Facebook post about it on their site hasn't got anyone there to pull it.
I wonder if the Quick Update is bricking Premium/LE games too?

I did the quick update on my LE - no problems. (fyi, applied it to Stern code - unmodified - not over CLE mod).

Nice. I just recently found what I hoped was a scrap of plastic in the shooter lane.. Nope, was a chunk of the plastic that this protector would of protected.. My first plastic travesty!

Right, exactly.

This plastic protects that back left side which is pretty thin plastic. It also protects the front - and gets rid of the ugly steel piece Stern sent out as a TSB. Lastly, it protects all other areas.

I was able to install without taking the 2 orbs off. Remove existing plastic, add this to it and reinstall.

Found the problem on my orb drop down. It's coil number 10, the drop down target release coil. When I do it manually via test, it sometimes just "clicks" and doesn't fire the release mechanism. Quoted from spidey:

The orb protector looks great, but why do you pitch this false scarcity "few left" crap? It's every post with you. And when you run out you just create more.

No scarcity crap, just a few left. I don’t own laser and guy doing this for me is a favor. He lets me know when and if he can do - right now I am on a 3 month hold by him. What he does for me is filler work at a significantly reduced rate so I can price at a reasonable rate.

Nothing lasts forever on a good deal!

Quoted from Awalls:

So I just inboxed my Pro and bought a scoop protector from pinball life and am wondering where the plastic part goes??? The metal protector is self explanatory but without starting to tear into it, I’m not sure where the plastic part goes. Pics or explanation would be great!
[quoted image]
EDIT!!!
I drunken ordered an orb protector too!! Now I know what it is! My bad. But do I need it since mine had the metal strip? Figured I needed a real question after my original stupid one[quoted image]

I had both of those - and created something that replaced both of these items AND protects the back left side of orb part which breaks.

I'm looking to join this club by picking up a Pro (or a used Premium if I can get one for a good price). I wish I had the budget for cpr9999's LE. That machine is beautiful! Anyone else looking to sell their machine in the Midwest before I look to buy NIB?

Thanks, it is a great machine.
Someone will be happy.

OK makes sense! Thanks for the responses really trying to protect this baby! lol

Best orbit protector!! Protects from and back left side (which typically breaks).
(Note, the protector below has protective film on it for shipping).

Quoted from Scribbles:

One of my flippers was actually touching the playfield just a hair. Adjusting it from underneath didn't help much. Then I realized they sell tiny nylon bushings that go between the bottom of the flipper and the playfield for this very problem. 1 bushing solved my issue

That’s weird- you shouldn’t need to add a bushing? The nylon flipper holder should give you clearance on the top side

Quoted from jlatko:

Hey guys, need some maintenance help on my Pro. So my left orb enclosure post screw flew off during a game last night Didn't realize it until a metal bracket appeared next to the drop target. In pics on the web, I can't see where the metal bracket goes, and don't really see the plastic piece attached to the right post either. I found the screw under the playfield in the cabinet. Question is, how does this thing go back together, and where does this metal bracket go? The picture with the orb is from the internet, the other 2 are my mine. Thanks.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Get rid of both metal and small plastic protector - install this - much cleaner (& helps thin back left corner).

Quoted from Rengozu:

Alright, so I've been out of the pinball game a minute now, but with my last kid going off to college soon enough, I'm about ready to be an owner once again. After just seeing what's possible with this one after adding the custom music/voice mods, I'm pretty sure this is the one I'm going to start off with when I'm ready to buy. (Though Wonka is also calling me!)
Most likely going to be a holiday purchase, and while I've owned several pins before, I've never bought one new (or a couple year old recent release preowned) Most likely looking to get the Premium version, and really just wanted to hear your advice on the must have add-ons and mods for the machine to keep it looking nice. Local arcade has a Pro version and it already has a big chunk missing on the play field by the drop-hole under the sign.
I can see various add-ons from several sites, but some overlap of the same type item and didn't know if there was a preferred brand/style or vendor I should be hitting up first. Was also curious if the complete clear playfield protectors like I see on eBay are recommended. No experience using them, and didn't know how it would affect gameplay.
Anyone use colored balls? Also don't know how they play (I'm assuming somewhat different) but after stumbling onto them from one of the sites I found my way to and seeing the bright colors available now, it made me think they could look cool on this adding one of each color to represent the different Infinity Stones.
Will start digging through this thread now for some info, just wanted to say hi and figured I'd ask the people that have had it awhile since you know what works and what's most needed. Probably going to start buying the extra pieces now so I have it all ready to go, so thanks for you help and looking forward to it!
