This can be a bad cpu board. My SWLE had several different sound issues which were all remedied with a replacement cpu board.
- crackling sound with specific callouts
- random no sound on game power on
- buzzing when backbox LED brightness below 100

A local fella here nicely warned me there's a component on the new (or some new?) CPU boards that Stern is aware of which can fail. Rebooting the game x amount of times will get it to work but the next time you boot it up you're back to square one.
If I were you I'd reach out to Stern asap. Best of luck
People need to go through their distributors to get a cpu replacement. You won't get one direct from Stern by yourself.

Stern has had problems with Spike 2 cpu boards and sound. There were a number of cpu's replaced on SW games, mine included. Static during certain sound events, buzzing in speakers and sometimes the sound just didn't work. The replacement cpu resolved all of those issues. In addition, the new cpu does not sound the same. It sounds like it has noticeable higher fidelity than the older cpu.

I had the same exact problems with my SWLE and new cpu solved the problem as well.

No more Stern’s for me because of this
I'm pretty sure GoTG will hit 1.0 sooner as opposed to later, but after that is unknown. 1.0 seems to be the new benchmark of when Stern considers a game 'complete'. After that, well it's anyone's guess unless Stern Of The Union mentions something.
