The Premium / LE certainly has some nice bells and whistles but unlike a lot of Stern Pros GOTG's game play is pretty much identical between them which makes the Pro a good value IMO. As JodyG said a used Pro is one of the best bangs for the buck in the pinball world right now, I got a fantastic deal on a nearly new HUO one last march from a friend who was upgrading to the Premium, still very happy with that purchase over a year later!

#3552 5 years ago
Quoted from JodyG:

Who said I was looking at DILE? There was a standard DI for sale near me for $6500 recently. So just stop. You like your premium, and that's great. Some of us don't see the value in the price difference. It's almost as if not everyone likes the same things as you do...shocking, I know. Or do you just like to argue with everyone? BTW, I paid $4400 for a used 12 month old GOTG Pro after nearly buying NIB. Like I said, someone else can take the $1300 bath on the game.

I’m only correcting statements you’re making. The average person cannot spend only $1500 more to get a DI over a GotG pro. This was your assertion and it’s incorrect except in maybe a rare case. Even you yourself just said $4400 for a used GotG pro and $6500 for a used DI standard. O.o

You can find DI for $6500 to $7k with some patience if you look places other than Pinside. Doesn't change that fact that I do not find value in a Premium GOTG whatsoever...used or new. But you can go ahead and keep trying to convince me that my personal preference is wrong if you want. I have all day.

Not trying to convince you your personal preference or dislike was wrong. Sorry, I think we both just got too down into the weeds over what we can call a misunderstanding. I apologize for my part. You're right, if someone doesn't want the updated features of the premium, that's their preference, and I cannot fault someone for that.

#3555 5 years ago

Folks these are ready. $150 + shipping.

I can also have these at Texas Pinball Festival this weekend. There were only 20 of these made and after that they'll never be available again.

Ironically I'm in the market for a DI myself. Another great game.

I HIGHLY recommend it

Quoted from jsm172:

I’ve been pretty frustrated with this game since I’m an average player. Between the magnet not catching sometimes and throwing the ball down the left side drain, the constant left side drains, and the constant bricks from me, it will piss you off like non other. I’m going to add slim post rubbers from titan to see if that helps the constant bricks. I also watched the stern pro games and picked up a few pointers on how to handle a ball better

Have you done the washer fix for the magnet? I had the same issue, but then I followed these instructions. made it so much better.
See in the thread, Post #2129 which is on page 43.

Simple fix, and is a must.

#3560 5 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

You're significantly under-reporting the differences
RGB lighting (which makes a significant difference in the light show)
two more magnets
the moving orb mech
powder coated metal arch instead of plastic on the Pro
multi-color GI lighting (not RGB, just a smattering of static extra colors that change the GI mood lighting)
2 spinners
I don't think the Groot arms are really that great, but that's an extra, too.

That would depend on what you value. I value the experience of play, and the Pro GotG is lacking compared to the Premium.

GOTG is the most solid Pro Stern has ever made. There are only 2......count them.....2 changes that effect the ball.

#1. Three magnets instead of one. This has no change on the "release and catch" effect of the orb lock, but does make the Orb multi-ball more chaotic.
#2. Spinners......if you even count that as affecting the ball.

That's it folks! Everything else is cosmetic. There is no other Pro with so few compromises on the play of the game.

You know I think your cool, Vireland.....but your argument here isn't holding any water.

You can't completely discount anything that doesn't "affect the ball" though. I don't disagree that the pro is amazing bang for the buck. But to simply discount everything else because it doesn't affect the ball?

You're cool. You're. Get the digs right or don't do them. I'm glad you where thinking that because it was effortless on my part. I wasn't trying to be anything except analytical.

And as I explained in a prior post, the Prem/LE is a better EXPERIENCE as that's what I value. You can value the cost, that's your right, but if you value the EXPERIENCE, the Prem/LE has a better light show and ball action. The end.

I was making a strictly "Bang for Buck" argument.

Premium looks beautiful, but at the end of that day, it's just makeup.

#3564 5 years ago

I played the pro then played the LE. the LE was so cool and so much more fun and intense i had to have the LE. my 2 cents

#3565 5 years ago

Both PinMonk and Sinestro are right. Pro - virtually the same gameplay gives a lot of bang for the buck...Prem/LE - adds a lot of aesthetic WOW. As in most things, $ is the deciding factor. Take an objective look at your situation. If the addtional cost has you waffling, the Pro won't disappoint. If the cash doesn't make you think twice, go Prem. You'll be happy either way!!

#3567 5 years ago

I picked up a pro second hand, then added the features that were most important me. Those being service rails for $50, shaker motor for $100, and since I was doing powder coating and had a spare metal apron, I did the apron swap. I'm pleased as can be. If I had the spare cash, and the trade was right, i may have went for a premium. BUT, when trading, we all know, better jump if the deal is right.

I'd like to make/keep updates a FAQ on common issues, and could use input from other owners.

What did Stern change in later production pins? I read/skimmed all 4000+ posts but my memory isn't able to recall everything from months ago and I'd like to make a complete list for new and old owners to know what to keep an eye out for with their pins.

--

Stern Production Changes:

Metal plate above orb drop target to keep plastic from breaking.

Some posts mentioned metal boxes/cliffy for scoop but it sounds like only prem/let have this and pros still do not, can someone with new pins confirm?

Groot mouth/balls getting stuck or requiring multiple firings to clear (not sure if this was hardware or software fix, can someone confirm?)

Some node boards were having issues for flippers being "soft" (I think this was just too much data on the spi bus and a software update fixed this and not hardware?)

Sound crackling (Fixed in update for most, some hard board replaced that updates didn't fix)

--

Common issues not addressed yet but would be nice for stern to fix:

Orb drop target machine gun and/or failing to catch ball (washer trick to fix)

Magnets not catching balls from orb. Washer trick, adjusting pin slope, or wider post on orb have been ways to fix it depending on the machine.

Balls getting stuck under rocket plastic.

--

Rare/odd issues people have reported:

Right scoop fails to register ball (Not sure the fix for this?)

Clear coat not smooth.

Shooter lane clear coat chipping.

--

What else can we add to this list?

Looks very nice! Can't tell from the pics, does the blue come close to the color of the t-molding? Otherwise, I think they make a darker blue t-mold. I changed my t-molding out on many games. I bet even the chrome t-mold would look nice and expensive with that metallic blue powder...

The speaker lightings are for Spike1, Spike 2 and for many S.A.M.

The lightings make your pinball machine to an amazing eyecatcher.

At our shop you can see for which pinball machine you can use the speaker lightings.

You can choose between six colors: yellow, orange, red, violett, green and blue.

If anyone has a question to our product, feel free to ask and write me an email to [email protected]

The following pictures are just some example.

Now I wish you a lot of fun with our pictures.

Kind regrads

Wow! It looks like someone got a 3D printer ,but no original ideas of what to do with it.

If a person likes this "Jailbird" look, as I like to call it, of a small lit speaker hole behind bars in that large SPIKE 2 honeycomb grill area....you can get one of my SPIKE 1 Speaker Light Kits (ex: Type 10 for Ghostbusters) and they will work fine for this purpose.

No reason to have to choose what color you want as they are RGB and allow for 1000s of different colors and various fade and flash light transitions. They include all of the needed hardware and connections to work in SPIKE 2 games. I only have them listed for SPIKE 1 use on my website as I don't like the way they look in the SPIKE 2 games, but if someone does like the look of a small lit speaker hole behind bars in that large SPIKE 2 honeycomb grill area......here you go. The only additional thing that is needed to install my SPIKE 1 Speaker Light Kits in a SPIKE 2 game is a couple of strips of double sided foam mounting tape to go between the speaker plate and the light frame. This adds some thickness so the light frames can be sandwiched between the foam mounting tape and the speakers. These RGB SPIKE 1 Speaker Light Kits are $49 + shipping (which is $25 to Europe.....order 2 complete kits and the shipping is still only $25. Strange, but true.).

Along with these, I have Speaker Light Kits for SAM, Whitestar and older Sega and Data East games. I also have light kits made specifically for SPIKE 2 games (which light the entire honeycomb grill area) and some Deluxe SPIKE 2 Speaker Light Kits (with individually addressable RGB LEDS) are coming soon.

A few updates of my GOTG Pro.

I love this game more and more every time I play it.

Powder coating by Rob Stone after I spent hours with color swatches deciding on the direction I wanted to take. T-molding changed to Purple to match.

Statistical Analysis of Impacts of Moving the outlane posts to the lower position

As a newbie, I have been trying to find out how much difference it makes to move the GOTG posts to the lower position. Since I couldn't find anything, here is analysis that I did and I thought others might find it useful. I'm sure that it may vary by skill level, I am still improving my pinball skill - I have only watched Pinball 101 video a couple of times .

All of the other settings are from the factory settings and I have always been using 1.06 version since day 2

Original Setup : With 1807 balls played,
Left Drains 32%
Center Drains. 58%
Right drains 10%

Lower Posts Setup: 131 balls played (small sample but large enough for this analysis)

Left Drains. 24%
Center Drains 71%
Right Drains 05%

This is not a perfect analysis because it only measures drains not potential drains, but I was amazed at how much a difference it made. My scores have gone up dramatically, before I would get to Cherry Bomb wizard mode (with 5 balls) once every 15 - 20 games, now I am getting to that mode once every 5 - 7 games.

I will probably be going back to 3 balls and probably moving the post back up.

I think I will order one of these Subs from Monoprice and give it a try. Has anyone else used these?

Quoted from Bos98:

A few updates of my GOTG Pro.
I love this game more and more every time I play it.
Powder coating by Rob Stone after I spent hours with color swatches deciding on the direction I wanted to take. T-molding changed to Purple to match.

That looks so good. Nice choice!

Had a first tonight...got to II before CBMB. Usually I play to finish modes for the bonus increase. The only mode I finished before II was Antiquities. All others were just qualified. Made for an interesting game, but I think overall points suffered.

good morning yesterday I officially joined the club. I have a question for the owners, how do you have the orb magnet so that it will grip the ball when the lock is released?

#3598 5 years ago

I did the washer fix to the magnet. Basicly you can unscrew mech from bottom of playfield and add a washer under the magnet to get it a little closer to playfield and therefore make it slightly stronger? I think there are details how to do that back in this thread. It’s very simple.

However this alone didn’t fix the problem for me. I wound up putting a new post sleeve on the right side of the orb drop target. It was slightly thicker than the older one that was on my machine. This gave the ball a better bounce out and over the magnet so it catches almost every single time.

Quoted from rawbars:

you were right. Just changing the rubber from the post to a thicker one already grabs it almost always. Thank you very much
