Hi gotg owners,
Can you tell me if the code is great now?
Thanks

Play one if you can, game is really good and always has been since it was announced. Code is solid and I think Lonnie s best game in his career.

I can tell you the code is great now, but that is because I like it a lot. It certainly has come a long way since release.

I sold my IM at the beginning of the year. Loved it but had played it a lot over 4 years. I did miss it after selling and I usually don’t miss games. For years MET never clicked for me, but this year it finally did, so I picked one up. I had AS for a year and liked it but somthing was missing??

My friend recently said GOTG is coming together after a slow start. He said it is IronMetalliSmith?! I traded out my AS for GOTG last month and no regrets. Doesn’t seem very special at first glance but I can’t stop playing it.

If you like Met, IM, AS etc get GOTG!

I was an early buyer and was a little worried in the beginning. I've never sold a game. Haven't reached a space limit yet. But, I thought about it in the beginning with this one. But now, I can say it's a keeper for sure. I suggest playing one first. Because, some people don't like the way the display and call outs are used. I like it, but I can see how it might not be what some are looking for. Other than that, I don't see how people can complain much.

I gonna trade my Met pro in a deal.
However, I was not planing to part with this one as gameplay is great.
I always said GOTG layout was exactly the same as Met but I preferred the theme by far (I can say I really don’t care about Metallica band and this is the only negative point for me)
So, it is one or the other, I don’t want 2 games with same layout, and I was wondering if I bought again the Met pro or if it was the opportunity to put the trigger on a gotg pin as long the gameplay was great. Is the code completed? Pro or premium?
I played it 5-6 games at the beginning so it does not count.
I don’t know how to play it now, so I will try to find a recent video.
Thanks

So, I'm on the fence on picking up a pro model.

I've played the game at a show, and it felt fun, but I couldn't hear any of the callouts or music, and in all of the gameplay streams I've seen, the volume is always turned way down. How do people feel about the sounds in this game? It currently is the lowest score the game receives among reviews. I understand that there is a sound mod floating around, and it pulls in audio from the movies. Does this greatly improve the sound experience?

Yup. There's no audio of Bradley Cooper yelling "skill shot" so it mixes about 90 percent from movie and 10 from Stern. I don't know if that's the actual ratio but you get the point. It's way better and it's a fun ass game

#2559 4 years ago

The audio work that cleland did is spectacular.
It makes the game so much more enjoyable.

Well, it wouldn't be Bradley Cooper anyway, as it's Quill that's yelling "Skill Shot!"

All the more reason the voice actors are unsettling. Seriously if I ever see Bradley Cooper or Chris Pratt, or any of them in fact, I'm gonna run up with my phone and they'll ask, "Oh would you like a selfie with me?!?" Me: "No Jerky, I want you to yell skill shot into the mic of my phone, ready...?"

If ST code is better than gotg then I pass! I hate the way how ST has been coded.(I don’t know if the last new update is fixing what I dislike)

I don’t know if you are saying that callout are not from actor’s voices, but it does not change anything for me as I don’t know their real voices!

Pro. First Pro I ever bought. Usually get Premium, but this Pro has everything I need.

#2570 4 years ago

Who has done the callouts?

#2571 4 years ago
Quoted from DeeGor:

So, I'm on the fence on picking up a pro model.

Hey Jack, Pro is the way to go on this title. The game has a great layout, very similar to Metallica and the LCD sound and animations make it enjoyable to see and hear. It is somewhat of a repetitive game and may feel like chopping wood in a smaller collection. I really like the theme and song choices, it also has been popular with all of my guest that have played it. I would definitely recommend the pro. Fun game and the art is spectacular. The only other game I would recommend more is Star Wars Premium/LE. If you have not checked out Star Wars yet, it is still on the top of my play list. I literally cannot get enough of Star Wars LE.

ST code is a different style, but it is currently still more polished/more to do/better risk v reward.

I like the style of code on GOTG better, but it still is rough around the edges.

They way it all goes down, Lonnie current era Stern games are just not real inspired for code style (obvious since they are just ported from one game to the next for the most part). I do really think the guy needs something to get some new engagement in the job or maybe time to step away to a different seat on the bus.

#2573 4 years ago
Quoted from colonel_caverne:

Who has done the callouts?

I put in Cleland's soud mod.

He has two. One that replaces the voice actors with the actual sound bites from the movie, along with added music.

The other replaces just voice actors with the actual sound bites.

The call outs, specific to the pinball game, are voice actors.

There is a new guy at at Stern, his name slips my mind, that is driving the rules post .90. Lonnie may still be coding, but he either been replaced or is co-working with this new guy on the rules themselves. It's obvious after the .90 release.

This is just not true. It has been thrown around a ton, but no one can prove it. On a Dead_Flip stream, the guys from Stern straight up said that Lonnie is still the team lead and driving the decisions.

Quoted from Sinestro:

There are several different skill shot lines in the game, I'm pretty sure there are at least 3, if not 4 or 5. I recall Rocket saying skill shot collected.

The code feels complete, and they are on 1.02 now I think. I would say the Pro model is all you need, but if you can afford it the Premium is pretty good too.

Is there any video out there showing the 3 magnets on the Premium/LE in action?

Other than that it’s lightshow and spinners that are the only other differences over the Pro, but there seems to be a lack of Prem/LE footage.

I played 4 games of Star Wars at the NW pinball show, and I just wasn't feeling it. Most of the time I felt lost, and the artwork is less than stellar. I could get over the art, but the gameplay just didn't pull me in. Maybe over time I would change my opinion, but for now. I'm really leaning towards GOTG.

I would love to see or hear proof about Lonnie being taken off of the game, not in charge any more.

Here is mine.

I don't have time to dig up the call outs, but I will see if I can dig up some different people saying them later. I could be wrong on this, but I'm 99% sure some of the other characters say lines.

So I just played a few games just to hit a bunch of skill shots. It does sound like the same guy doing them, but I guess in my head I heard different movie characters. Does the same voice actor voice different people? If so maybe that is what I'm hearing. I don't know.

No one has said, including me, that Lonnie has "been taken off the game". He is still coding.

What has happened is that a new hire from Stern is driving the rules of the game.

You do understand that coding and coming up with rules can be two separate tasks, right?

Also, I never said that other character voice actors aren't saying callouts. What I said was that the couple of "Skill Shot" callouts are from the voice actor portraying Quill.

Take time to read what I'm writing. You're jumping to conclusions based on misreading or broadly interpreting my comments.

The guy in that clip I linked to literally said Lonnie is still driving the bus.

Here is your quote.

I'm saying that according to what the guys at Stern are saying this statement right here is factually incorrect.

Here your skill shot quote...

Quoted from Sinestro:

Well, it wouldn't be Bradley Cooper anyway, as it's Quill that's yelling "Skill Shot!"

You then later say it is the Quill voice actor. I am reading what you wrote.

Or am I reading all of this wrong too?

Driving the bus doesn't mean driving the rules. It could mean he's still the lead programmer. Might be a polite way of protecting the coder's reputation.

You're not making any sense about the Quill voice actor. I can't tell what you're trying to prove. The Quill voice actor is the guy saying the couple of "skill shot" lines. It it never Rocket, so it would never be Bradley Cooper, like the earlier post was talking about.

You have no proof that he isn't still in charge of the rules. It is all conjecture.

All I was trying to say is it isn't only quill saying the skill shot line. I hear Yondu and Rocket say it too, what I was trying to say was maybe I am only hearing that because I want to. I was trying to figure out if the same voice actor did the voice for Rocket, Yondu, and Peter.

Play IM AV, AS then GOTG. You will see then who is driving the code. It is Lonnie all over. I think the extra coders are helping Lonnie.

I’m completely lost in my thinking and my certainties

I have houdini and DI and while this wasnt on my radar im tired of waiting for pirates. Is this in the same avenue as TF ST IM etc? Need somwthing to fill back the trio. I sold all my sterns a year and a half ago. So...

How is code and the damn cabinet corners? Did they figure their shit out yet?

Nope. Not for you man. We like to have fun around here. Enjoy Houdini. Bye bye.

#2593 4 years ago

I am busting your chops for all the complaining you did about stern games for the last year.

To me GOTG like IM, AS and MET. Game is great. Good change from stop and go Houdini or DI. If you are concerned put some corner plates in the cab for $9 and you are good to go.

Really play it and give it a good shot to see if it works for you.

Weird. I've been hearing the skill shot call outs as Rocket. I'm not convinced it's supposed to be Quill.

Which character is it supposed to be who says, "Your time is up!" Sounds like Ike Turner! I can't figure it out!

#2595 4 years ago

1) my GOTG pro is for sale, haven’t had chance to properly list since it is at my location.

2) I’m picking up an LE in less than a week from another awesome pinsider. I swear I’m counting the hours. I can’t remember being this excited for a machine. I have access to basically every pinball machine, esp modern ones; and all I really want to play is a GOTG Prem/LE with full RGB glory.

Can’t wait to play some LE at home and hear Cleland’s work.

Busting balls is fair. I kinda pissed off a few people. But on a serious note how far would you say the code is now? Almost done? In need of a lot of TLC? Pristine?

Fiberglassed 2 of the 4. Almost done with this nonsense. I still have to primer and paint these.
