Someone else at TPF who owned the game said it was a huge change. Not owning it yet, I can’t attest to that, but his words were encouraging. It seems like Stern is going to let Lonnie keep coding this till summer, when he’ll polish KISS and Areosmith. Of course, some of the new programmers and not Lonnie might be doing the polish on those.

Quoted from pinballaddicted:

I hope you are right. We are really starting to like our LE. Stern came good and replaced our orb plastic so I am happy about that. The game looks and definitely has the goods to be one of Sterns best. Groots mouth and the orb are freaking awesome ideas. The three magnets under the playfield cause havock. I love it!
It is the code that determines if a game is great or not. This game is a perfect example of this. Come on Stern and Lonnie, make this game great!

GOTG will be great! I seriously have no doubts about that at all. It shouldn’t have taken this long thats for sure, but this game is too damn good for them to forget about. GOTG can still turn into a HUGE money maker for Stern and they know that. All it will take is a good code and some publicity from people talking about how good it is and there will be a mad rush on this title. Just watch and see. Heck, if this game gets a killer code I will probably buy one because i love the theme and the playfield layout.

Glad to hear it!
Stern replaced my Orb plastic and sent me the metal protector free of charge too. I've got the plastic protectors coming from hasi too just to bullet proof it.

The Hadron (Hardon) feature is one of the best ideas in pinball in a long time. I am not the best player in the world and shots on this game are tight. You need to upgrade to get more time in each mode but this has not been coded in yet. You can save up your hardons and then use them to complete modes or use one to get a difficult shot. The hardons also stack so if you are playing 2 modes at once you can get 2 shots. Machine has freaking awesome features just needs a bit more code. If you lived closer we could share some beers and solve all the problems I am sure!

That is so good to hear! Stern are fantastic with their warranty.
We have a full set of Cliffys on nearly all our machines. We have used him for plenty of years now, problem is everyone has found out about him and you have to wait 12 weeks to get his stuff. I am not sure if he has come up with a GOTG set yet. We modified a SW shooter lane set and put that on our GOTGLE until he can make a set for our GOTGLE.

The bummer about the scoop protector is that it's factory on the Premium and LE's and Stern won't sell it directly for Pro Games. My awesome distributer asked and they said they are only for Premium/LE games and will not sell separately.
That's pretty stupid IMO and really pisses me off. Maybe some kind person can send Cliffy one off their Premium/LE to reverse engineer. I'm done with Stern though, they get great licenses and always eff up the sound and then pull this kind of crap to boot. Sorry, just venting....

Yeah i know, that would be awesome. You are right about the tight shots also, especially that damn rocket shot. I cant seem to hit that for nothing.

Thanks very much for posting, That will be in our next order!

Quoted from hank527:

I get it. I reseated all my connections and mine got a lot better, but it went from limp to weak. It's no secret that I hate this game, but that's okay as the only other Stern I hate is NFL or Striker Extreme. I even like WWE much better and I like the GOTG theme.
Plus I'm not buying another Lonnie coded game ever again after this one.
I'm okay though as it may be another 10 years until I hate another release as much as this one.
So excited for GOTG to go and to get Iron Maiden.

Add me to the list of not buying another Lonnie game.

Number 1 reason is the games just don't get finished and polished.

And look at how many Champion awards that are already in Maiden?

KISS - AS - GOTG - Champion awards MIA.

All will be forgiven if these games get finished and polished

This is right up there with removing the service rails.
Not including in the Pro, no problem.
Refusing to sell them ... just plain dumb.
I also reached out to Cliffy, he has nothing in the works for now.
(Not Cliff’s words here) If the scoop is a copy of any of Borg’s other games, it might be possible to use another protector. There would have to be a nearby post in exactly the same place.

I’m just coming back to Stern after a bit of a break. My games come and go frequently, and several sterns are coming my way. I just sold a Capcom, two Ballys and a Williams. My main goal was to get some new games in the collection and avoid the NIB price gouge. Last year I got a used Aerosmith Pro for a good price and have been very happy. So this round I’ve picked up a used GOTG Pro and used TWD Prem. Despite tough talk, I was unable to resist ordering a new TNA from Spooky.

Thankfully, I don’t like Iron Maiden music. I need balance in the Force, So I’ll have to go back to Solid State or EM next year.

Why not email Kerry and ask if this one will fit? This type offers great protection and doesn't cover the surround.

There back to being standard standard with Iron Maiden. My luck, I'm getting the last Pro game without them.

But you're right, at least you can buy the service rails. I will.

When using these if the scoop is cut at an angle which 90% are by design, fill the edge from the protector and playfield with a clear nail varnish.

I had a Kerry aka Mantis protector on my TRON LE from new, for the same reason you mention it doesn’t cover up any artwork, as the scoop is bevelled/cut at a 45 degree angle on TRON I filled it with a hard coat nail varnish and it’s been perfect since.

Plus if it ever chips simply re fill the chip, brush over the top and boom perfect “clear coat” on your scoop edge

Holy crap that's an update.

#1520 2 years ago

I just got back from playing about 15 games of the Pro at Pinheads, and I come back to this! Holy Sh!t!

Hell, that game was still on .85, and I love it! I can't imagine all the changes in .87 and .90 being applied!!!

Can't wait to buy this game!

#1521 2 years ago

Looks like it will play like a whole new game.

#1522 2 years ago

Downloading now! Can't wait to play it tonight.

#1523 2 years ago

If someone could stream a video of the new code that would be awesome, I’m on the fence on whether to get a GOTG pro/Prem but really want to see this new code/how the games shaping up before pulling the trigger.

From the readme above it seems very Lonniesque shoot the same shots each mode, doesn’t appear to be much working of the playfield in a single mode, is that an accurate assumption?

#1524 2 years ago

new code is awesome. upgrade actually does something. only played a few games but the modes seem way easier to complete. I think I might actualy be able to get to save zander. Looks like scoring is more balanced. no more billion point orb jackpots.

Has anyone ever used these https://pu-parts.com/guardians-of-the-galaxy-shooter-lane-protector curious how good they are compared to Cliffs shooter lane protector sets.
If Cliffs shooter lane protectors are installed correctly (in line with the lane edges) do they stop damage completely? I have always used Cliffys but curious about these full shooter protectors as a temporary while Cliff catches up as he’s one busy man these days, which is well deserved and awesome for him!

We have those protectors on every machine. We buy them while we wait for Cliffy to make ours. They are ok, but not as good as Cliffys. Biggest issue with them is the plastic on the side that is meant to hold them down does not usually fit properly so the protector moves around every time the ball is ejected. If you can get on top of that they are ok. They will work while you wait fore Cliffy. For the cost, we buy and keep a few different cliffy shooter lane protectors and then modify them to fit a machine. I cannot stand clear chipping, especially in the shooter lane.

We have machines that are over 7 years old with Cliffys fitted since new. Occasionally the left side shooter lane protector moves, so you need to keep an eye on that. Some machines the shooter lanes still look like brand new, some don't. No chipping in any shooter lane approx. 15 machines. We are definitely a fan. You need to fit them properly and make sure you remove the sticky (you will see what I mean when you get them) so the protector sticks to the playfield.

Good Luck!

new code is awesome. upgrade actually does something. only played a few games but the modes seem way easier to complete. I think I might actualy be able to get to save zander. Looks like scoring is more balanced. no more billion point orb jackpots.

Is each mode shoot ## of the same shots? Or is there any variation within a mode? Thanks

I was playing an .85 machine today, and there was some variation. A lot has changed through .87 and now .90.

Very cool! excited to get home and try this. The ReadMe looks great! lots of cool items addressed and the modes look like a ton of fun. Glad to see they are more varied in play style. Looks like the entire game is getting a big over haul! Thanks for the great update Stern

That’s good to know, I’m on the fence with GOTG but with each code drop getting more tempted to pull the trigger on one, but just want to see this newer code/newer direction of the game as so much has changed before buying.

I am just worried it’s going to be the usual Lonnie 10 ramp shots on one mode, 10 orbit shots on another mode etc, a little shot variation, working the playfield like Lyman and Dwight like to goes a long way and would make this hard to pass.

Wow.. that’s some update... gowloading it now!
Looks like some of the modes have been reworked, shot wise and a timed Multiball.

Does the groot mouth move in multiball? I am Groot!

I sked Stern and Lonnie yesterday on this thread for a code update on GOTG and got it today. Finally.. The new update has changed the whole game. Awesome, thanks Stern! Cherry Bomb multiball is awesome.

It must have taken longer to type up those changes than implement them

Downloading now to evaluate.

How do you get Cherry Bomb I'm struggling.

#1534 2 years ago

Figures that I played it for the first time today and was very underwhelmed, and now there's a huge code update.

#1535 2 years ago

So excited to play this but got home too late tonight... I haven't even turned on my Guardians since seeing the sneak peak stream of the the code @ TPF ... made me not want to play the .87 code.

I played .85 today at an arcade/bowling place. When I got home, saw the .90 update and immediately sent a message to them to update the code. They said they'd pass it along.....we'll see.

I believe it's by finishing three (maybe four) modes and then hitting the mode select scoop. I played a few games with the new code tonight and the first one I got to the new MB mode. Lots of fun and timed mode, the game really plays differently now, for sure.

What version of the code did the Groot mech start mouthing "I am Groot" before spitting out the balls? It didn't do this at all in the .85 one I played today.

Complete 4 modes and then it's available (per Lonnie at TPF).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this still is not in the code and I'm not sure why. It's definitely needed.

Topper code Lonnie! Please!

Things like this is exactly why I am still holding off buying, it’s an absolute no brainer to put this in the code, pretty sure he did the I AM GROOT in the GOTG teaser video.

anyone with intermittent flipper weakness on .87 download the new code and notice it is fixed?

I plan to update later today and would like to poll others since I was told it would be fixed in this code.

Got a chance to play a few games on the new code. The fun factor on this pin just went way up! Need more time with it to give detailed feedback. But ya, this more like it.

#1543 2 years ago

New code is good, its got much more going on to achieve, a lot more fun to play the modes, and orb multi now has a cool end shot also , very happy with this change of direction

I certainly heard at least one “ I am groot” during his mode, but more while bashing him can’t hurt

Have a few games on the new code and the call out "I am Groooooot" is in there but he does not move his mouth voicing it yet like in the video.

Is Quill's Quest supposed to be a 2-ball multiball now that ends when one of the balls drains? Or maybe a bug or problem with my trough. Wasn't doing this prior to the new code drop. Can't test it further right now. It's down at my location.

Perhaps they’re holding it for 1.0.

Yes, it’s a 2 ball multi-ball now, according to the notes.

Yep, it's a 2-ball multiball but mine does not end when one of the balls drains (odd.) Mine keeps 2 balls in play for the duration of the mode. I'm on an LE (not sure if Stern has ever made mistakes between different models code?)

Yes it is. It doesn't end after losing a ball, but you can't open Groot's mouth until you only have one ball. The new code is sweet. Even though the code had issues before, I have always enjoyed this game. Now it's definitely even more fun and way more polished!

I'm liking the updates that keep coming for GOTG. I would still like to pick-up a premium someday but the code updates need to keep coming. Hopefully this fall I will choose between GOTG premium and Deadpool. I enjoyed IM and Met Premium when I owned them and this is by far a better theme for my house.
