Quoted from thirdedition:

We've just had our second Groot jaw motor give out. I haven't taken it apart yet, but I suspect the culprit is yet again a gear in the gearbox. I'm ordering two from the main source since they are cheaper than buying them from Marco or Pinball Life.
My question is, has anyone else had this amount of failure on Groot? Is there any known solution? It is a location game that gets a fair amount of play so I can't complain too much, but I'm curious if anyone knows that the cause is. My best guess is balls are getting stuck in his jaw and the gear is breaking when it tries to close. I'll see if I can adjust it so that doesn't happen.

There can be a lot of friction on the metal slides for the mouth. A lot of friction. I used white lithium grease on this one contact point to reduce the friction and make the motor life easier. It solved all of the problems I was having with the mouth opening and closing and that machine is now on location with no issues.

#8002 1 year ago

Mine is making a squeaking noise. At least I think it's the mouth. I'll try some of that lithium on it too.

Consider posting the 'other' main source and ordering detail in case others run into that same problem... I think a number of folks have tried finding the motor assembly 511-7926-00 through other sources, but shipping fees made the deal not so much.

Quoted from Markharris2000:

The Groot Jaw motor, Stern #511-7926-00, is available and in-stock at PBL for $69 (Part # 041-5142-00 ) and appears to be manufactured by MultiProducts.com, which is their Model DCM-1018-24. You can buy direct from MP for about $30+$30 shipping ($60) online.
Best to get it replaced under warranty if at all possible!

I ordered two for the price of one essentially.

I paid for two motors and shipping for cheaper than the pinball life motor assembly. I haven't dig into this one yet but I'm fairly confident the motor is fine so I am only going for the gearbox.

To clarify, I bought two from multiproducts directly. I'll let you know how it works out.

Got it. I was thinking you found a lower cost shipper. I think the Multiproducts originals are a better deal-specially when purchased qty:2, even though shipping eats some of the 'deal'.

Finally got some time on my game. Really like it but man is stock sound horrible. I have been too busy to update to Cleland but this might be the worse sound package in history. Even worse than the white trash dude in TWD.

I sent Cleland an email - have not heard back yet. Uh Oh. Anyone know of a way to get in touch with him?

Email or PM? He doesn't always respond quickly, if it is to get link to the current (1.09) version of his code, he is usually good with providing via a PM when he's available to respond.

Just PM him. He got back to me almost instantly.

We saw GOTG 3 last weekend, loved it! Not as good as 1 or 2, wish they wouldn't have drug-out the ending so long (not LOTR bad by any means though) but it was funny, action-filled and had a good story-line. Nice way to wrap-up the trilogy.

We saw it opening weekend and it didn't disappoint. I was okay with the ending. They were wrapping up the trilogy and dedicated some extra time to closing things up. Just a tribute farewell thing, so I let it slide.

I tried to contact him on pinside mail. Is that how you guys contacted Cleland?

Well I used to use a Spiritual Medium, but it got kind of expensive.

Have a NIB pro on the way and was wondering if anyone with a pro has removed the IC from apron and replace with decal/art?

Just thought I'd say thanks to the group and give my thumbs' up to the drop target fix posted below. I also had the issue, and while my distributor wanted to charge me $240 for a new drop target mechanism, I was able to fix my problem by bending the L shaped bracket so the magnet is closer to the mechanism that releases the pop up target. Much appreciated!

Yep. Works like a champ. I did it right after I got mine, and haven’t had an issue in 2 years. I need to clean and wax my playfield again soon to keep the magnet action lively.

Anyone know when Cleland code will be updated to 1.12?

Whenever Pinball Browser is able to support the newer code.

Only asked because latest PB works with guardians 1.11 and all the extra stuff like dj mixer and a few others were added in 1.10 and 1.11. Don’t think 1.12 added anything other than connectivity indicator on display.

Cleland had done one for 1.11 but didn't make it public, as there is some issues with the codecs for audio used (and possibly changed by Stern) causing static in the audio. Still wanting an updated version as well, but this was where PB/cleland are stuck.

Hopefully they get it figured out. Would love to have the DJ mixer with this music.

What is everyone using for attenuation setting for music and speech?

I’m having a hard time getting the right balance.

Provided all goes well, I should be joining the club late tomorrow night. I'm picking up a Pro with 96 plays.

#8026 1 year ago

Got lucky and found a NIB Pro delivered late yesterday.

Waiting for my Groot Hands, Pinmonk orb mod and quiet fan.

Only issue I’m having is even with the orb plastic protector getting some wicked airballs off the glass.

Any further adjustment to correct this?

Install cpr9999 's Orb Plastic protector, it protects the whole plastic, not just the front, and I don't get airballs when using it.

Just an update for everyone. Titan silicon rubbers arrived.

If you remember from my earlier post, I was concerned about the post sleeves being tapered. Well, they were tapered as you can see here.

1 (resized).jpg1 (resized).jpg

2 (resized).jpg2 (resized).jpg

The narrow end is very thin. When I used to hit the rubber sleeves with a direct shot I could hear the metal from the pin under the sleeve. My concern with buying regular sized Stern rubbers for these areas was that it would make the ramp shots even tighter. Well, the green tapered sleeves weren't even installed properly. One had the narrow end down and the other was up. I put new Titan sleeves on and the ramp shots are just as tight was they were before.

The rest of the pin I just used clear silicon rubbers on. I really like the clear look. It allows a lot more light to shine out and I find this helps on GOTG especially with the fluorescent green/orange sling protectors.

I replaced all the rubbers. Really glad I changed them out as I found incorrectly sized ones everywhere. There were 5/16 ID rubbers everywhere when it should have been a mix of 3/16 ID. Flippers got a light blue to match the T molding. I plan on upgrading the speakers with light blue rings as well, so it'll really pop.

What he said. The shorty won't protect the actual plastic that breaks otherwise.

And leave the groot hands off. You can't see a thing with them on there and your game will suffer. If you like taking blind shots, buy a Spooky.

I’m curious if anyone else is experiencing this, right after I complete the antiquities mode my G.I. lights will flicker with every switch hit. This only happens in that mode and only once it’s completed. Once you go onto another mode it goes away. I’m curious if it’s a code glitch from Stern? I am running the latest Cleland code

Mine does the same. I thought I might have noticed in another mode but I wasn't really paying attention.

The G.I. flickering seems to coincide with any switch hit and points are in the high 100K each time. It's a great way to rack up points but I can't figure out what triggers this "mode" other than going into Antiquities2 (and perhaps other "2" modes like I mentioned earlier).

I'm not sure what completes the "mode" either other than putting the ball into the mode select scoop. My wife is epileptic, and avoids looking at the pin when it's in this mode. I mean, even when it isn't in this mode she is careful.

Do you have stock code, or the Cleland code? It has to be a bug from Stern. I’m curious to see what others report

That's the level 2 of antiquities. All of the modes have a level 2 bonus that you can stack with modes and multiballs. Completing Antiquities Shop will increase the scoring of each individual switch for the rest of the ball (up to 100 switch hits to complete the “2” mode)

So you think Stern coded it that way, or a bug in coding?

Cleland but it was the same on stock. As others have stated it's Stern code.

Guys, come on.. This is intentional - it does this in Antiquities 2 by design.

Has anyone heard from SteelTigers ? Was messaging him back and forth (friendly) for a bit and then things went cold. Sent him a PM. No issues, just concerned as it's been 3-4 weeks now. Hope he's alright.

I picked this up last weekend. I really should swap AIQ and WoZ, but I really don't feel like moving WoZ if I don't have to.

Shaker coding good on Guardians?

#8045 1 year ago

Hello GoTG owners
I was asked if I'd consider making one of my "deluxe" "easy to install" armor
https://pinside.com/pinball/market/shops/1463-arcade-cabinetscom/08505-pinbawlers-deluxe-armor-pre-order

for Guardians of the Galaxy

I put up an interest thread today if anyone is interested
ideally I'd like to get 10 people minimum to do this. If you interested please reply to the interest thread.

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/gaurdians-of-the-galaxy-deluxe-armor-interest-thread

Here's are some pictures of my existing deluxe armors as well as an idea for the cutout image for the GoTG that I made during lunch.

thanks for your time

Interesting, on 1.09 definitely doesn’t sound like Rocket and Quill.

I’m going to have to listen again, I reported to Cleland to take a look.
