Perfect, I need to order the scoop protector. Why are you so cheap Stern!!!
Will order both at the same time

I also put the service rails on my GOTG and they are really nice compared to the pegs. I thought maybe the new builds they would include the rails like the other new pros. That is kind of disappointing. I also put on the same scoop protector from pinball life but I will say I have seen a bunch of absolutely played to death guardians on location and never seen wear from the scoop. It is interesting but the scoop on this game doesn't wear much like other games such as RUSH! It is a much easier shot to make with the protector off I find games on location much easier to hit. I think in a home use setting you would not see hardly any wear on it. Congrats on the game it is a great one

Quoted from ulmpharmd:I know this has been posted before, but can someone explain step by step what I should do to install Cleland's code on the fresh off the line gotg pro that just landed? Also, where can I get the Cleland code for this recent build? Sorry again for the basic questions just don't want to fry anything Thanks in adavance

To get the image file, DM Cleland asking for the link to the image file. He will send you a DM with the link to download it.

I have found the most reliable way to image the SD card on a Mac is the following:

--------------------------------------
Insert the SD card into the computer

Launch the Terminal Application

Run the following commands :

diskutil list

sudo diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk2

sudo dd bs=1m if=/Users/goldsmid/downloads/GOTG_LE_CLELAND_V1_1_09.img of=/dev/rdisk2 (this is for the LE image, substitute the directory path and name of the file you downloaded from Cleland)

sudo diskutil eject /dev/rdisk2

----------------------------------------

If you are working on a windows computer, then I do not have experience on that, but I think you can use a imaging program.

It's really just a 2 step process that he details in his email. Nothing fancy if you are using a PC
1) Flash the .img file provided to a SD card (class 10, 16 Gig) using Balena Etcher or win32disk imager if you prefer
2) Insert it into your game replacing the existing SD card, and you're done

Has anyone updated the Cleland 1.09 code on a new NIB Pro that has the 1.11 code from the factory?

#6855 5 months ago

Does anyone know if the guy that was making the wire form ramps still makes them. I’m trying to find it in the thread

#6856 5 months ago

I wonder if stern will make some more of the side rails I would love to have some.

Try Loganpinball as he made some but could not get his build time down due to the complexity so made it hard to price it.

yes, it will change it to 1.09 code and that will work fine. you will not be able to use home team is all or run the 1.11 code

oh that is interesting to know, I would suspect the games to get beat up there in no time...
Anybody else reporting the same? if yes then I will start playing this game, lol, believe it or not, I have not waiting for the scoop protector!

You have will power I would have it turned on . But pinball is all about the patience. I bought mine used with about 400 plays on it before I put mine on didn't have any wear on it if that helps. But the cliffy from day 1 isn't a bad way to go either if you have one ordered then you know. Good luck

I don't think he ever actually produced them because they were too expensive to do the way he wanted to.

I started seeing scoop wear on the left hand side of mine pretty quickly in home use, unless you only plan on putting a couple hundred games or less on it I would strongly recommend the protector.

No, the magnets always work best tightly pressed against the playfield on all games.
Added over 4 years ago: By magnets I mean magnet coils not the core.
Added over 4 years ago: By magnets I mean magnet coils not the core.

I was reading about how to dial in the magnet and then I found this warning...not sure what he is talking about.

Mine is not touching the PF, is this still an issue? how is this supposed to play?
I want to dial in the game but I am not sure what am I looking for to know whether it plays correctly or not.

Are you guy adding mylar on top of the PF where the magnet is?

I had my share of damaged art before so I know the key with these pf is protecting the known suspect before the wear starts, then you are golden.

Best thing to do is play it and see if you get enough magnet activity with its current setting. I moved mine closer because it was rarely catching the ball. You will know if you start orb multiball or orb shots and see the ball grab and moved. No negative to having it too far away besides lack of activity. I would play it first and see how it plays. The bad part about having the magnet dialed in and close to the playfield is often times it’s frustrating because it throws it right to the left outlane. Lol that’s how you know you have a close enough for full magnet activity.

I would say dial in priorities on this game:

1 Dial in scoop eject power to return nicely to the left flipper. You might have to apply light pressure and bend up on the scoop lid to adjust also. Settings in menu adjust power.

2 orb shot. You might have to adjust the drop target if the ball escapes before it catches often. I believe in mine it needed adjustment.

3 Magnet- see if needs moved closer

4 Coil Stops- replace the stern ones as soon as possible. On mine they were toast when I bought it at 400 plays.

5 Cleland code makes this game so much better.

Absolutely it’ll make sense when you play it. When you hit that orb shot you’ll find if you hit the stand up in the back and the ball gets back out before it locks all the time the drop target will need some adjustment.

This will be my first Spike 2 game. What’s the best way to hook up an external sub? On my LOTR and AC/DC I’ve just tied into the cabinet speaker. Is there a line out on the newer games?

Temp testing on GotG ready to go.

I did a quick 30 minute test without noting the temp progression and got ~142F on both flippers by the end of the 30 minutes (close flipper coil temps usually indicates a well-balanced game, shot-wise). We'll see what I get with a full 2 hour test with every 5 minute temp checks.

It that with or without your TB fans?

Oh, without. I'm just getting started with the testing- that pic's just the temps for the machine in attract mode with nothing going on. With I expect temps will be consistently in the 100-115F range, like most Sterns once they're cooled

Really digging this game, it’s a lot of fun. I was shocked how it’s basically Metallica. But thats ok, it’s a whole new game with the theme and Metallica is a solid shooting flow so its all good.

I was a little worried about how similar the layout is to Metallica but it’s awesome and has a different feel. I’m loving this game too!

Got a surprise in the mail today; the Starlord dome cover I ordered from Modfather pinball. It looks awesome.

Almost exact same layout I actually originally bought a GOTG because I couldn't find MET and it was the same layout. I have both now and since the code is so different they are both awesome games. I think guardians perfects the layout a little more with the challenge of the rocket shot and groot mouth is more challenging than hitting sparky. The plastic ramps feel a little faster than metallica overall. Orb shot is more fun than the snake shot for me. I like how in this game you can take many different paths to get to cherry bomb for points while MET is pretty straight forward.

I hear this all the time in most threads about the coil stops. I've been lucky I guess ( knock on wood ). But what stops do you guys put in yours? Link if you have one. And what's different about them? Just curious and ill order some just to have on hand in case.

https://www.pinballlife.com/flipper-coil-stop-for-sternsega.html

That is the coil stop replacement and I definitely recommend it. Sterns factory stops are actually two pieces that are not welded together very well - the circular part in the middle over time will detach from the bracket and your flippers will not be as snappy. You'll also notice a lot of metal shaving pieces when you look beneath the playfield.

I personally disagree with other folks who said they aren't experiencing issues with recent Stern ones. The fact is they just don't notice it. I had a new Godzilla machine where only one of the coil stops had failed (upper flipper), but I went ahead and replaced all three and INSTANTLY noticed an insane difference in the lower flippers. MUCH snappier. This simple $5 upgrade is 100% a must-do on all Sterns in my opinion. One more tip, while you are replacing the coil stops, take 20 seconds more to replace the sleeves as well. Will also make a huge difference, especially if your Stern sleeves got dirty from their crappy stops. Here's the sleeve link:

Honestly the Stern crap coil stop problem is real and even before you see shavings in the bottom of the cab if you take them apart they will show separation. Agree with comment above you will have snappier flippers just replace them and you will be happy

Same. I haven’t had any issues on any of my machines. I did full tear downs and shop jobs on all of mine since none were NIB. I ordered new ones hearing all the horror stories so I could swap, them out but honestly none of them needed it.

I feel like it is on par with hype around magnetized balls, another issue I have never experienced, but see discussed endlessly. I take my balls out every few hundred games, throw the old ones in the tumbler for a couple of days in crushed walnut, and put new ones in. Never had an issue.

Got my GOTG from a friend who owns a bar arcade locally, mine is an early one from 2016 (?) but wish they had done a protector from the beginning on these or made it come with them by default. Damage already done so pointless installing one now

Thanks, still considering that, less of a rush to do so I guess. Need to get off my butt and fix Groot's mouth motor still first. Going to tear it down and rebuild it, cheaper than ordering a replacement with shipping to Canada.
