Quoted from Our_Man_in_Oz:

Never played IM or Tron. I thought the WD was boring as and crummy art out of his recent titles

You thought TWD was boring but you own a Hobbit?

Oooooh Pinside!!

Quoted from Shapeshifter:

See what happens when everybody doesn't jump on board right away?

Probably because Stern used the WWELE gold armour. Because they just had like 500 sets of it just lying around the factory ...

Lol!

“Why did we have to move to the bigger factory Gary?”

“Well, I had ordered 500 sets of WWE Gold trim. I usually only order like the exact number we need for the machines we have orders for, like we always do. Because, you know, we run a “just in time” system here like most factories do. But for some reason, I felt strangely compelled to buy a whole run of armour! Yep, 500 lock bars, 1000 headbox hinges, 1000 side rails, and 4000 legs. All in gold. All over there in the corner, just sitting there. So that’s why we needed this bigger factory, until we could devise some devious scheme to unload it all....”

More lols!

From Stern’s Instagram account. Not sure if this has been posted.

Oh, that settles it then. They’re definitely using the 400 sets of left over WWE armour.

Hahaha!

Edit - that’s sarcasm in case you didn’t get it.

But if they laser cut them, they'd have to have re-powder coat them (because the edges are covered) -- so it's not really re-using anything.

I think you missed my sarcasm.

Quoted from Hi-Fi:

Now I see why some people say music written specifically for pinball is better.

The orchestrated music for all the modes sounds awesome. Much better than the soundtrack music.

Ooka Chaka should be kept for the end of the game only ... the Game Over music.

Cherry Bomb would be best as Wizard Mode music.

See ... this is what happens when commentators who really don’t know anything about pinball start spouting off and creating a fuss.

Quoted from Laseriffic:

Apparently this plastic has a breakage issue but don't worry we are making a PETG protector for it. We will have these ready next week at Cointakers and Pinball Life

Same as Stern Star Trek ... and KISS premium/LE. You’d think they’d work out that you can’t put a thin slice of plastic over the top of a drop target ....

Quoted from MapleSyrup:

I don't know ANYBODY who is as crazy about pinball as I am...

Hey, you know me!

Quoted from MapleSyrup:

My theory is that it's become a haven for FORUM enthusiasts, not pinball enthusiasts. This is less and less a place where pinheads connect and discuss pinball, and more and more a place where argumentative forum addicts hurl insults at each other for the tiny dopamine hits it provides...

Yep. You’ve got the “usual suspects” who have Type A+++ personalities, who are always right and simply can not see two sides of a discussion. Even someone who raises a valid point is WRONG!! and gets a thumbs down.

Quoted from MapleSyrup:

I'm REALLY looking forward to playing GOTG. The audio sounds TOTALLY FINE to me.

Me too. Looks like a fun game. Can’t wait to play it. The Bobbily Bo Bo is awesome. Danni and I have been cracking up for two days.

Again, you have a bunch of people for whom NOTHING will ever match up to their lofty expectations.

I can just imagine if these guys were “on line” in 1990s. “Addams Family! It’s awful! Where’s the world under glass? What’s that bookcase? It’s blue!! Jezusss!! A blue plastic bookcase!! WTFFFF!!! The real mansion looks NOTHING like that thing on the playfield!! I’m out!!!” Lol

“Attack from mars ... only 5 main shots! WTF!! Only 2 modes! What a paaaaaeeceee of shit!! Wide open playfield!! What the hell! There’s nothing there!! Only one wizard mode? Whaaaattt?? No backglass? No 5 channel stereo sound!! The voice isn’t a real alien! What the hell? Should be a real alien!! This is ratshit!! I’m out!!” Haha

Quoted from MapleSyrup:

Yup, Lonnie is not Lyman. TWD is a personal Fav... But I also REALLY enjoy Aerosmith. Not everything needs to be Citizen Cane.

It seems it has to be around here. This is something I’ve been saying for ages. Not every pin is gonna be AC/DC/MET/TWD. To expect otherwise is foolish.

Quoted from MapleSyrup:

As for the TNA chirping going on here... I don't even know what to say?! That game is the spirit of Pinball. If you don't like it... You DO NOT LIKE PINBALL!

I came to that conclusion some time ago. There are people here who don’t like pinball, in the traditional sense. Pinball is all about playing, socialising. I can’t believe some of the folks here who use the machines as some sort of pseudo toy shop. Play the thing people. Some guy in the BM66 thread said he just bought a LE, what are the “must have” mods? There are none. You don’t need any! Play the f**king game!!

Quoted from PanzerFreak:

That's half of the ruleset that Star Wars offers. In my opinion I don't feel like I'm getting the same value from GOTG and AS as Star Wars due to the ruleset design.

Can’t understand that thinking at all.

Maybe it’s relevant if you can get to the end of Gotg and AS every time you play them. But I bet you don’t do that.

Like JJPPOTC .. it has 1 gazillion possible modes. Based on your thinking, that would have to be the best game ever, right?

You know what game Danni and I spent all day yesterday playing? Aerosmith. It’s just a fun game. We’ve haven’t got to the end of the game yet. But it’s achievable.

Most of the time we play classic SS titles. The programming on those fit onto a 8kb chip! But again, fun fun fun to play.

LOTR - super deep code right? Lots of value there!! But just no fun to play, just grind out 40 minute long games all the time, so out the door she went.

Fun is where it’s at. The amount of code in a game generally has little to do with that. In fact, it’s often quite the opposite.

Quoted from pinmister:

Yes RD I totally agree, sometimes depth of code or amount of toys has nothing to do with it

100%.

I’m becoming very disenchanted with Pinside these days.

It’s become 99% about how much shit you can hot glue or screw onto your pinball machine. There’s always been that aspect, but it seems to have just taken over the hobby. Every thread is just 100% “buy shit to stick in your machine” or “blind the planet with LEDs”. Some people are even buying a pile of mods before they even get the machine!

Does anyone just play their pinball machine these days?

Pinsiders would be pretty disappointed if they came around to my place. 120 machines up and working, and barely a mod to be seen. It must be very underwhelming lol

Quoted from pinmister:

I was thinking the other day how much fun I have with my 24, many people think it is striped and basic

I haven’t put much time on 24, but I had CSI which gets a lot of shit, and it was a great pin, lots of fun. It would still be in my collection and being played regularly if I hadn’t got a very good offer for it. I’ll probably get it back one day.

I'm sorry. I had to do this today. To put a rear playfield glass channel back on a game and didn't want to attempt staples or brads.
LTG : )

You’re excused LTG.

I’ve put about 15 games on the Pro over the last few days.

Cool game! Nice shots, flows good.

Orb lock is a tight shot. So the game sorta becomes “groot all day” ... well, that’s what competition players will do anyway. I did that yesterday, groot/groot/groot, and had 185m on 2 balls when I won (plunged out the others)

Although the software is similar to Kiss/AS it does feel different in this game. The video was fine by me, and of course “A bobbily bo, a bobbily bo bo” was the highlight of the day.

I like the game, I’d consider buying a pro.

Can someone PM what a good price is on an LE? I’m seriously tempted to pull the trigger on this regardless of the negative reviews.

Not sure why you’d spend the extra money on an LE with this title ...

Buy a pro instead, save the $3000 to put towards your next pin.

Those extra magnets are pretty darn pricey ....

What's a good score for playing on location? (default settings - 1 extra ball)

Hmmm ... I’d say a good score would be 694,187,300. Give or take.

Quoted from vireland:

But Congo was considered a "dud" for a long time. Pinheads are a fickle bunch.

Yep. Congo and NBA Fastbreaks were stripped for parts, and often used as bases for MM conversions.

Only after Congo became a popular competition machine did it gain any popularity at all.

Quoted from hd60609:

I love the layout, but the shots other than Groot are tight! They are very satisfying to hit but I wish the code was more friendly. Requiring 5-10 shots, of which most are tight, may be a bit much to complete a mode.
Then consider one needs to complete 8 modes to play the first wizard mode - "Immulation Initiative

I would agree. They have used basically the Aerosmith software, but the shots are way tighter on GOTG.

They really need to tweak the modes to make them “achievable” and award good points ... or else why play them? Just play “groot all day”. Groot gives mega points, which makes playing the modes a waste of time.

The rules need to be balanced, to match the games layout.

With Aerosmith, I think it is pretty balanced ... you don’t see players playing “toybox all day” as much. The modes are completable, and doing so awards good points from super ramps etc.

Balancing GOTG will make it a much better game.

Quoted from T-800:

gree 100%. Although there can be TONS of points in the modes if you can just combo the crap out of your shots

No combos are gonna be worth 48,000,000 points like a Groot SJP though.

Quoted from pinmister:

My thought was to have an option in feature menu for changing from difficult to either medium or easy for mode completion

Does it not have “easy” and “extra easy” on the Installs menu like other Stern pins?

Quoted from hocuslocus:

bought a game recently with wood filler in the shooter lane area, wonder if that would of passed anywhere else?

That’s a by-product of the plywood manufacturing process. You’ll see it in most plywoods.

I guess the question is, was it noticeable enough to “2nd” the whole playfield? If so, that rests with the QC at Stern.

rd

#4152 1 year ago

Wow, that looks pretty sexy.

It’ll do the job though.

Surprising Stern didn’t pick up on this earlier after transformers and Star Trek. Always an issue.
