Anyone who's defending using the word rape is acting like a jerk. That's all there is to it. It's a horribly emotionally charged word for a lot of people, that causes them a lot of discomfort, and even if you aren't triggered by it the context it raises is gross and distasteful.

If you want to die on the hill of looking like a jerk, while being offensive and sh*tty to people, just because it feels good to type a naughty word then so be it. Maybe you don't give a sh*t what I think, or think I'm smug or something, I couldn't care less. But you should stop and ponder if screaming PC POLICE is actually how you want to react, because believe me, lots of people around you think you're a jerk too when you say that word like that.

I don't really care that Pinside isn't positive now, because it just reflects pinball, which isn't positive either right now. Sad but true. You can't fix it by asking people to be nice, games are expensive and broken, that sucks.

But we can at least try to focus on what we're frustrated about, and ponder our use of language. Say rip the spinner or something and be less jerky.

In pinball I recall several times reading people describing raping an easy shot for big points (i.e. pillaging) in a non-joking manner and nobody was up in arms about the words used. Context does matter and the term rape is not limited to human to human abuse.

It seems it has to be around here. This is something I’ve been saying for ages. Not every pin is gonna be AC/DC/MET/TWD. To expect otherwise is foolish.

I came to that conclusion some time ago. There are people here who don’t like pinball, in the traditional sense. Pinball is all about playing, socialising. I can’t believe some of the folks here who use the machines as some sort of pseudo toy shop. Play the thing people. Some guy in the BM66 thread said he just bought a LE, what are the “must have” mods? There are none. You don’t need any! Play the f**king game!!

I just got my game yesterday and I am trying to evaluate everything. But, yes I will be replacing sound-a-like callouts with the real ones from the movie as much as I can without background mixes I can't filter out. Also, music is a big deal to me for this glory title, so I will be putting in some of those titles too....and yes, I will truncate "Uga Chuka" out of Can't stop this feeling.....love that song but hate the beginning.

Seems like the music already in the game is pretty good. I’m basing this strictly on the Jack Danger stream.

Music is important, been playing sharkey's shootout. Not sure if it's the weird jazz tunes or what, but it's hard to get focused/pumped when playing it.
As long as the music is better then that, It'll pass in my book.

still an ok title, I'm not a big pool player anymore though.

The music is pretty good. But we can make it better with some well placed selections like 10cc “I’m not in love” for grand champion or something like that. Huge first song for Quill and his mother’s passing. Lots more to implement too.

You sir have made stern a ton of money. The only reason I own a TWD is because of you. I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels this way. Hoping you can do what stern could not for GOTG. A huge thank you for all of your hard work.

Can’t wait until the Premiums start getting into people’s homes and we start hearing some feedback. The Pro model is no slouch but I kinda want the Premium because I love the theme and would like to have the extra goodies, even if the value doesn’t quite add up. If the Groot hands block the view in the way at all though I would go with the Pro I think.

The code will get there. It's just unintentionally hilarious right now. I'd save the anger for another day. If it becomes nothing more than an Aerosmith retread on the code front, at least it will have the superior shot geometry of Metallica. The game will be fine, but the rollout has been nothing short of goofy so far.

Maybe Stern needs to cut one game from the schedule each year and let games release with more maturity. But whatever the situation is today with GOTG, it should round out to be a fine game in the long run. I hope so, at least.

How does the code differ from AS? I haven’t played the game yet but it kinda seems like you pick a mode and shoot for the lighted inserts. Once you clear that you pick another mode and shoot all of those inserts etc. seems to me like it’s just more of the same compared to AS which isn’t a terrible thing, just nothing new or fancy. Am I wrong about that?

No, as it stands, pretty much everything is modeled after Aerosmith.

Songs = Missions
VIP = Hadron
Multiballs and Multipliers are very similar
Wizard mode qualifications are very similar

It's not a bad thing, it's just what it is right now. Many Lawlor games had a pretty similar model. Heck, Dialed In's progression is very similar to old Lawlor games, but there is quite a bit more nuance layered in.

We need all people to make a world. This forum (like any other) is just a reflection of the society. Some folks can be unfair in their comments but most of us here can talk easily and fairly of our passion for pins. As all passionate discussion, sometimes words get beyond our mind. But we can talk about our hobby, help each other.
Now Let’s be specific. It is about Stern negativity. Unless my mistake, stern is the only manufacturer who is talking about pinside like a disease. Some are using criticism to be better and closer to customers expectations others prefer to insult those who express it
I won’t come back in length on Stern strategy building ( in my opinion, stern is ruining great theme licenses with rehashed game conception, poor quality, less and less code, zero creativity..) but everyone here get the key, just pass if you don't like.

If it’s like AS I think I’ll like it. I know it’s very basic type of coding but the playfield layout looks sweet and like it would have a lot of fun shots. I don’t think there will be any big changes in the code if it is already pretty good truthfully. I definitely don’t expect AS to change any other than a few bug fixes probably. I don’t mind that though because Aerosmith is a fun shooting game. If GOTG is as good as Aerosmith I’m in.

All good. We like all pinball and his point is to concentrate on what you like and keep the bad comments about what you do not like to yourself. There are plenty of good people on Pinside and the negative rumours are starting to drive good people away from Pinside, including us. We have just put the new code in TWD so we are going to have a flip!

Sorry to go off topic here, I have not been following this thread, but it was brought my attention this morning by some friends, who asked me to look into it.

Using the word "rape" in conjunction with pinball is not something we should want to uphold, as a community. There are plenty of less provocative words to make your point. Everyone may have different opinions about the meaning and/or severity of the term - and that's their own prerogative - but if you look at the Pinside community rules I think it's pretty obvious what Pinside's stance on this is.

So, just to be clear: using the term "rape" as any kind of metaphor for anything pinball (or not pinball) related is not allowed on Pinside. Period.

Please no further comments about this in this thread (back on topic!). If you agree or disagree, feel free to up- or downvote this post. If you want to respond, send me a PM or open a Moderator Feedback thread. Oh, and PLEASE be respectful of each other when you post on Pinside.
