Quoted from jfh:

If you play Batman with the .83 code, Plan A doesn't stand a chance.

at this point its a toss up. Batman has better code at the moment, and looks like the code will only be getting better, but to me batman is a clunker of a shooter. Guardians shoots phenomenally well and is brutal fast, but the code needs more time to bake on it. i think it comes down to what other games the location he is putting it into has.

Can someone please isolate bobalee bo in a sound file? I need it for...reasons.

Also, remember he's buying for route play. GOTG is ~$2k cheaper than BM66, and might outperform based on theme alone in most locations.

Based on just buying a B66 premium and knowing the HUGE deals that are out there NIB for this pin... Your price range is simply not true. You just have to know where to look for both GotG and B66.

But if you want a game that shoots well and is fast, there are PLENTY of games that fall into that category that are also totally finished, coded well, and have great sound. Why bother with this? Just get Metallica or Iron Man or any other Borg or Ritchie game.

I hate the rosey red glasses on every game and not say anything bad ever. Get over it and call a game bad when it is.

I have owned almost every Stern and Sega at some point. The only game I absolutely dislike completely is Striker Extreme, until now.

What is wrong with being honest. GOTG is horrible. It could turn around, but it's very doubtful as 2 songs are it and what is there is just not fun.

The left ramp is a mess with air balls.

BM66 is now great. I will say avoid GOTG at all costs and buy a BM66 as you will be happier.

I'd rank Stern games as I find most playable except Striker, GOTG and NFL. Hell, I like High Roller Casino a lot.

How does Pinball Browser work with the LED?

It doesn't.

#3558 6 years ago

No matter how this title turns out I will never understand Stern's marketing decision to show it off like this (with so little code support). I understand just showing the "box of lights" as a preview but showing (let alone releasing) gameplay at this stage of maturity boggles the mind. This is too frequently becoming their MO the last few years.

I also don't understand licensing. How does one license the video (of actors) but not the audio (of the same actors). I get it when it comes to sound-tracks as they usually are licensed to be in a movie. I am sure it has to do with cost because there is no way any intellectual property owner would simply refuse to do this for any other reason than the buyer doesn't have enough money to procure the complete license.

Geeze, they might as well have tried a knock-off theme called "Defenders of the Universe" and had a talking Squirrel as one of the main characters.

oh well, here is hoping Stern can pull it all together.

Side note: at the end of one Expo Stern factory tour, the giveaway to _all_ participants was a Striker Extreme translite. Had a few left over, I guess...

No one is saying that only positive posts on a game should be allowed and to suggest that is very misleading; rather some are saying people should stop with the over-the-top hate hyperbole and broken record ad nauseum repetitiveness.

Didn't mean to spread misinformation, I figured BM66 was retailing for ~$7200 like other Stern Premiums (so ~$1800 more than GOTG Pro at $5400).

What did you pay for your NIB BM66?

Quoted from fosaisu:

Someone did a SW revision adding in more John Williams tracks (I thought they used Pinball Browser, but maybe not?) So some level of sound replacement appears to be possible on Spike. But are you saying you cannot modify the video images or LED screen display with Pinball Browser, only the sound?

Yes, that’s correct. Sounds, yes.

So then it's back to the question of whether the dialog that plays during the movie clips is "attached" to the movie clips in some way, or if they're stored as separate sound files like the music cues and accessible through Pinball Browser.

#3569 6 years ago

Sounds like it depends. If Stern incorporated the bad dialogue in with the video, it’s hosed. If it’s a separate track (pleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease) then the sound could be replaced.

Yeah - could be an idiotic question I’m asking, I just know nothing about how Pinball Browser (and the Spike file system) work.

#3571 6 years ago

I have not messed with Spike yet in pinbroswer, but on previous pins on SAM, the audio is a called from a request file, which is separate from what is shown on the DMD. Example Tron gem mode and Star Trek movie music was added without affecting the video/DMD display.

I'll take a look at it after I eat something, I will download the pro code 0.72 and check some files.

on a personal note, I'd love to see the opening scene with Starlord dancing along to, Come and get your love, by Redbone. like in the movie @ ball start of a new game

So when will the code be updated to add call outs from the rest of the Muppets?

#3574 6 years ago
Quoted from Vino:

So when will the code be updated to add call outs from the rest of the Muppets?

Soon. I'm hearing another update is coming ASAP, maybe even this week as 0.72 has issues. At times the right flipper goes week for no reason at all.

#3575 6 years ago

I'm listening to the call outs with pinball browser, they basically recorded the dialogue from the entire movie.

There are several variants of bobbiby bo bo, all are hilarious. I don't have a pinball browser license so I can't export them, but they are worth listening to. They are under Requests 849, 850, 853, 856.

#3576 6 years ago
Quoted from Banker:

I have 32 Sterns, this one from what I watched is a complete letdown.

Stern listen up this guy is all in. If he is let down by your new release you know someone needs to get back to work....

That's one hell of a collection....

#3577 6 years ago

OK. I just rewatched wasp's stream from yesterday and listened to the call outs in Pinball Browser. The call outs are isolated and should be easy to change/swap with the speech from the movie. Wasp's stream showed all movie clips running and coincidentally (or maybe on purpose?) there are no scenes with actors/actresses actually speaking. The action scenes are just running with the score playing.

The movie can be downloaded in itunes. The clips can be edited to isolate the corresponding speech. Then video files can be converted to .wav files. The .wav files can then be imported into the Pinball Browser 6.0 (make sure you donate). Upload the modified spk file into the game.

There is a glimmer of hope! Especially for those who were "in" but now "out" solely because of the voice actors.

That's generally a problem with the EOS switch gap. GB had that problem and it was fixed in a code update.

respectfully I disagree, the "voice over" is awful, Its so bad I don't even find it remotely funny. I am fan of GOTG in fact there's more voice overs NOT accurate to the movie scene being played (guessing for replay-ability ). Most the "call outs" I heard in the stream where a female voice saying "timer ended" etc... call outs are also horribly bad.

Yondu vs Broker scene actual Moive, he says "I like to stick-em all in row on my control console" Stern's request files, there are 4 voice overs 3 of the 4 refer .... in a row on my "dash board" WTF!

GOTG 3 Capture (resized).PNGGOTG 3 Capture (resized).PNG

No sugar coating it:
-Goot sounds like gargled Optimist Prime voice
-Ronan the Accuser sounds like Bane from Batman
-Broker, similar enough but still misses the mark
-Nebula, similar enough
-Gamora, I have no idea seems so obvious its not Zoe S...
-Rocket, raspy & botched
-Yondo, red-neck hillbilly with the wrong accent (sounds like he does some extra ball, mystery, etc... callouts)
-Thanos, similar enough
***
-Drax, I can't seem to find his voice in the code
-Star Load/ Peter Quill, I can't seem to find his voice in the code

It's currently just awful, the more I dig the worst it gets, the voice over's/call outs are so integrated it would take an insane amount of time to edit all these voices over from the movie, I feel bad for the one wanting to take this on. I just don't see Stern changing this.

GB is a fine example of accurate speech 10x fold, I never grow tired of hearing accurate speech for the movie theme pins.

However, yes it looks like sound can be edited, pulled & added, its a bit more complex than just capturing sound as sometimes there isolating background noise, orchestral music, along with actor speech, its currently proving difficult for me at least. As I been playing with this from Stern's Star Trek I want the OG Spock aka Leonard Nimoy voice at the end, instead of Chris Pines James T Kirk. "Space! The final frontier...."

i recall when new jjp potc was shown and people were going crazy over it, a few weeks later somebody posted that stern will be surprising everybody with gotg. it was gonna be a game changer. what happend?

#3585 6 years ago

I think we have all voiced are opinions loud and clear. What now? Either we ask some of our smarter tech savvy fellow Pinsiders to save the day like TWD or we wait and see how many changes are implemented in the next code updates. I will have my LE next week so I'm hoping for some good progress in either direction. The game looks great and with no call outs in IAAPA and FPF the game played great. Nothing bothered us because the code was on its way. I played the hell out of the game for a week straight. Again great shots.. Absolutely stunning Artwork and we were all just awaiting code. I have not been on Pinside for long at all but from the research that I have done I have seen lynching's over so many titles. And after all the smoke clears and issues get resolved everything ends up fine. Some games after so much initial criticism have became thousands of peoples favorite game.

Thanks to all the people streaming videos of game play and offering constructive criticism.

Me too! Thought it was great when he is kicking the rat things and using them as mics lol, I was thinking that would be great as a multiball song, attract mode, or end of game or something.

I hope I’m wrong too. I love GOTG and I genuinely enjoy most Stern games. This pin was way up on my want list and I’m crossing my fingers that Stern knocks it out of the park with future updates. I’ve got a fistful of cash in hand ready for that day but no way am I just going to just give them the benefit of the doubt and just hope for the best. Vote with your wallet folks.

#3593 6 years ago

Update: I just got to play it and I'm staying in! Stern really shit the bed with no call outs from the movie, only 2 songs from the movie, pushing it out with premature code, etc but Borg saved it with one of his best layouts ever. I can't believe I'm saying this, but for me it's a better layout than Met and possibly even better than IM. I was very close to cancelling and I'm very glad I made a point to play it first and decide for myself.

Now, this pin is not for everyone. My tech didn't like it. There are A LOT of shots and they are TIGHT. Guaranteed lots of bricks and short ball times for most players. But better players who prefer tough shots over wide-open shots you can -edited- all day are going to be hooked on this pin. I think if the code comes together and someone replaces the weak ass call outs the Top 10 will be getting a new addition. In the meantime I'll be enjoying what's already good about it and laughing at the worst call out ever.

And screw Stern for bungling the audio so hard and rushing this out the door. They damn near lost my business for that. I will dump it if no one is able to replace the call outs. And I hope the players at my location won't be too butt hurt about the tight shots and short ball times. If they don't like it they can go cry to Momma until they get better. Oh, and if this wasn't for my location I'd wait for Stern to polish it up. They don't deserve a ton of early sales here.

Glad you enjoyed the game. Hopefully code will get better and everything will be good. Question not for nothing and I myself must admit I'm not the most articulate individual here on pinside. But you have a very odd way of describing your views. I got the point but I must say it was very unusual. Never heard anyone use the term RAPE all day long. (Classic)

Perhaps I'm missing the point, but I often hear "rape" in reference to performing particularly well in a game or getting destroyed by an opponent in competition (video games, MTG, Poker, tabletop, etc. etc.). Seems pinball is no different.

He never made a rape joke nor was he making fun of rape in any way so get over yourself. He used the word rape talking about easy shots that you can make all day long. Maybe not the best choice of words but not nearly as big of a deal as you are trying to make it either. I just love these times we are living in where the cool thing to do is look for reasons to be offended.
