If the score motor never stops running, you need to find out why. This often happens when a game is stuck in reset, but from your description it does not sound like that is the problem here. Other possible causes you can easily check:
- A stuck coin switch. A tell-tale sign of this is that the replay unit will always be at max credits.
- There is a run-out switch at score motor position 1C. If that switch is out of adjustment and is staying closed all the time, the score motor will never stop running.
- When you looked at the control bank, did you confirm that the frame of the bank was firmly seated all the way forward in the end brackets? Sometimes if the frame is loose in the brackets, the relays can get stuck part-way and cause weird behavior. To check for this, loosen the wing-nuts at each end of the frame, push the frame all the way forward into the slots on the end-brackets, and re-tighten the wing-nuts very tight.
And of course, if you have the schematic, you can see what relays energize the score motor, and check each of those to see what is stuck on.
