Power on, score motor starts running immediately. I can start a game, all score reels reset, ball served up, scores and chimes as it should. When the ball drains, it's served back into the shooter lane immediately. Ball count (and player on a multi player game) DO NOT advance. Fixing for a friend, I played around with it a little, but ran out of time and ideas. I have cleaned the ball count unit and the action on it is nice and snappy. Inspected the score motor brake - intact and apparently working - and did a quick review of the Reset Bank, but didn't see anything obviously out of place. Not ruling it out, as it was a really quick check. Any thoughts appreciated!!

If the score motor never stops running, you need to find out why. This often happens when a game is stuck in reset, but from your description it does not sound like that is the problem here. Other possible causes you can easily check:

- A stuck coin switch. A tell-tale sign of this is that the replay unit will always be at max credits.

- There is a run-out switch at score motor position 1C. If that switch is out of adjustment and is staying closed all the time, the score motor will never stop running.

- When you looked at the control bank, did you confirm that the frame of the bank was firmly seated all the way forward in the end brackets? Sometimes if the frame is loose in the brackets, the relays can get stuck part-way and cause weird behavior. To check for this, loosen the wing-nuts at each end of the frame, push the frame all the way forward into the slots on the end-brackets, and re-tighten the wing-nuts very tight.

And of course, if you have the schematic, you can see what relays energize the score motor, and check each of those to see what is stuck on.

Convinced it had to be something at least a LITTLE complicated, I started at the relay bank. Screws were tight, all the way forward, all relays reset properly. No joy. Switch stack at 1C looks good, nothing staying closed when it should open. Cleaned all the contacts just for good measure. No joy. Pulled the coin mech to get a look at the coin switch. Plenty of gap. Same with replay switch. Hmmmm...and then I noted the tabs on the coin switch. They were insulated, but pinched together. Pulled them apart and noted some moisture/lubricant. Cleaned that off, powered up, and the game reset and played perfectly. Powered off, started multi-player games, repeated several times, and declared it a fix. Don't know if it was metal to metal or whatever the moisture was that was completing the circuit, but the coin switch tabs were definitely the key.

Thanks, TimMe!!
