(hard to believe this song is 2 decades old......)

System Of A Down - Chop Suey!

#13 3 years ago

Yes! Good list. Such a great song for number 1 (IMO)

#9
Gojira - Stranded

This one

#15 3 years ago

Yeah Gojira should’ve been higher

I agree with the top 4, 3, and 2. But system of down was such a “Nu-metal” phase band.

(I would have made this in my top 10 for sure)

#24 3 years ago
Quoted from phil-lee:

Psycho Holiday Pantera

That song is 31 years old.

Did not make the 21st century cut....

Gojira - Stranded

Saw Gojira live twice. Absolutely phenomenal band.

Way Of All Flesh is still the bed album. God damn, it slaps.

#28 3 years ago

Tool recent opus is not too shabby. The song Pneuma is pretty ear catching:

Cheers,

Chris

Fact.

Disappointed no Amorphis or Liquid Tension Experiment (yeah long shot I know).. good list generally. Clearly I’m old since I expected to see Sepultura or Soulfly, even Heaven & Hell!

#31 3 years ago

How is Rise Against, Bring Me The Horizon or Breaking Benjamin not on the list? Are they considered alternative?

They might be somewhere on the list, but I did not memorize the whole magazine

Download "Metal Hammer 346 pdf" if you want the entire thing to read

Metal isn’t my number one genre to listen too, but Chop Suey is such a great song imho. I can see for it won.

Sorry, time is flying by.

Happy to see Volbeat up there, and while Still Counting is a good song, they have so many better songs than that one.

Nightwish - Nemo

Glad to see Nightwish get some accolades. Their Wacken 2013 concert is legendary. Floor's rendition of Ghost Love Score during that show is probably the most used video for voice coach reactions on YouTube (skip to the 1:10:00 mark to view that masterpiece).

#38 3 years ago

I think your list overlooked this heavy metal classic from the Grammy award winning head banger album 'Crest of a Knave'

#39 3 years ago

Nevermind - apparently in addition to losing track of days and weeks I am now losing track of decades and centuries

#40 3 years ago

#41 3 years ago

From the list, I'd vote Nightwish and Mastodon.

Surprised that no Opeth or Amon Amarth songs made the list, both bands have released several excellent albums this century, so there's lots of material to choose from.

Epic Metal + Prog:

Great video work on this one, someone should make a pinball machine out of it (song starts about 25 seconds in):

Ghost is not metal

#43 3 years ago

Best metal song, 'Gold' by Spandau Ballet.

#44 3 years ago
Quoted from midniight:

Ghost is not metal

LOL

If your biggest hit is a tribute to the 80's metal band Ratt, you are certainly trying to be metal....

Ratt - You're In Love

-

Ghost - Rats

I think you missed the 21st century by a few decades....

#47 3 years ago
Quoted from vid1900:System Of A Down being played at a Black wedding:

Trust me, it's SO worth clicking....

That was worth it. So much better to see than the white supremacist assholes who are the squeakiest wheels in the metal scene nowadays. The bands aren't, but the fans have gotten way worse.

I agree -- and perhaps even the best metal singer, period (subjective, of course). Definitely my favorite singer right now and the entire band seems to be very talented. Hope that I can see them live someday.

That song is great.

You should pay to have that track mixed and mastered for his birthday.

A punched up mix could get them noticed for a 2nd stage somewhere (should the USA ever get covid under control)
