Quoted from TheLaw:

Everyone hates Zep these days;
They are apparently the only band that stole shit from people

The difference is when Foghat would record an old blues song, they would credit the original artist.

All my 1st pressing Zep vinyl says Page/Plant for ever song. It took years for all the lawsuits to fix that.

Near the end, they started recording albums of mostly their own material. Those are the discs everyone likes the least, lol

Les Paul & Mary Ford Show: World Is Waiting For The Sunrise

#81 2 years ago
Quoted from xsvtoys:

I don’t think it was an intentionally evil act, they were just young and dumb and things were different back then.

It was 100% intentional

Page would tour with a band, then 6 months latter list their songs as his own. These were not old blues songs, but songs written within the year.

-

Sometimes they would steal the lyrics from one contemporary band (like Moby Grape) and then the entire song and solo from another (like Albert King's As The Years Go Passing By) and clop them together.

Totally ruined their legacy.

Hell for Jimmy will be this song playing for eternity in his cell :

Puff Daddy and Jimmy Page - Come With Me

No one is as fluid as Yingwie

He is more efficient in his right hand technique than any other living guitarist

Far Beyond The Sun - Yngwie Malmsteen

#86 2 years ago

although Yingwie will occasionally play the Blues or Classical Acoustic, no guitarist is more diversely talented than John 5

This video has his 40 pound "lava lamp" guitar in it, although NSFW

Crank It - Living With Ghosts - John 5 and The Creatures

Quoted from usandthem:

Always love how a music thread can pull the greatest Pinsider of all time, Vid, out of his crypt. I never appreciated anyone who I never agree with at all more than Vid.

But at least I can always back up my statements.

Crapton sucks because:

1. He only knows a single scale. A half century of pitiful playing, and he has never been able to even learn a second one.

2. Most great songs people associate with Crapton, have other guitarists actually playing the difficult parts.

3. He has never written a hit song. All covers or written for him, with himself added on as co-writer so he can slurp half the royalties on the back end.

Yep, even Tears In Heaven was written by Bill Jennings

4. Crapton only spent a single day with his 4 year old son before he died.

Had no problem cashing in on his death for 40 years after

5. Brags about raping women

6. Crazy ass racist (Google "Clapton racist rant" from Rolling Stone website NSFW)

7. Sells a signature guitar named **Blackie** (my phone won't even let me type it in, lol)

8. Enjoyed putting a nude 11 year old girl on the cover of his album holding a phallus

-

Only good thing he did was cause Rock Against Racism to be created because of him

Crapton is the worst

#126 2 years ago
Quoted from usandthem:

What 60's-80's rock star didn't have his way with women? Whatever he had, I'm sure Mick Jagger had more.

Ah, I was unaware of UK law.

So if Mick Jagger was a rapist, then it's legal for Crapton to rape.

Gotcha.

#143 2 years ago

Robin Trower added a couple of notes to the minor scale, and became the evil Jimi Hendrix.

Bridge of Sighs

#148 2 years ago
Quoted from usandthem:

You didn't quote the rest of the comment, "If he was bragging about anything non-consensual, of course that's not acceptable."

There is NO consensual rape.

None.

Quit trying to defend the indefensible

Quoted from usandthem:

And where's the quote about him supposedly bragging about raping women?

It's in the Spew Testament (aka his autobiography), but for those who don't follow the word of their god, he also has said he thought it was his entitlement to constantly rape his wife:

https://apnews.com/article/314a3a689dd3e15ebbc8d567dfadb06f

#154 2 years ago
Quoted from usandthem:

Has apologized for racist comments. Don't know what else someone is supposed to do. Besides, we're debating "greatest guitarist", not highest morals.

If he was no longer a racist, he would not still be selling his **Blackie** model guitar, or be telling interviewers in the 2010s that Enoch Powell was "very brave" for trying to remove black and middle eastern people from the UK

-

Pink Floyd fans know the song "In The Flesh part2" is based on Craption's crazy racist rants at the time

Craption would tell the crowd:

“Do we have any foreigners in the audience tonight? If so, please put up your hands… So where are you? Well wherever you all are, I think you should all just leave. Not just leave the hall, leave our country … I don’t want you here, in the room or in my country. Listen to me, man! I think we should send them all back. Stop Britain from becoming a black colony. Get the foreigners out. Get the w0gs out. Get the c00ns out. Keep Britain white …””

That of course was great material for Waters:

"Are there any queers in the theater tonight?
Get them up against the wall!
There's one in the spotlight, he don't look right to me,
Get him up against the wall!
That one looks Jewish!
And that one's a c00n!
Who let all of this riff-raff into the room?"

Buckethead - Jordan

#158 2 years ago
Quoted from usandthem:

Well, apparently Roger Waters thought that Clapton was such an awful guy (and apparently such an awful guitarist), that Clapton joined him on a leg of his 1984 tour in which one of the songs they did was, wait for it, "In the Flesh".

You know that Crapton is so dumb, he did not even know he was being mocked.

#160 2 years ago
Quoted from usandthem:

But you, on the other hand, hold him to comments that he made 50 years ago in a drug-induced stupor as the only thing he's ever said.

Quit trying to defend the indefensible

Crapton was already off drugs when he was doing his rants:

"I used to be into dope, now I’m into racism. It’s much heavier, man. "

His own words.

Tony MacAlpine "Square Circles"

#165 2 years ago
Quoted from usandthem:

How is naming something that happens to be black "Blackie" out of line at all? You could accuse him perhaps of not being very creative in the naming of his guitar, but that's about it.

LOL, if my phone won't let me type the word (long press says "SLUR") then I'd say that the word is offensive to any normal person.

It would be like if an openly racist black guitarist sold a guitar called "Whitey"

"What?? What else would you call a white guitar?" snicker snicker derp

Obviously you can't be the greatest guitarist in the world if all you play is white man's blues (too easy of a style, already fully mastered by black performers in the past) but Ana Popovic throws in a little jazz influence to freshen up a very played-out genera.

Unlike the ancient teetering dinosaurs of ole, she actually puts on an energetic stage performance.

#179 2 years ago

Samantha Fish plays some more traditional white man's blues, but is a great slide player

I own Gilmours' "The Black Strat" - is that racist too?

Not at all, why would it be?

#190 2 years ago
Quoted from Elvishasleft:

So... I think the point is after your 15th post about it. You don't like Eric Clapton?
.

I like Crapton, I've seen him a dozen times, have all his albums, and even his book.

I even have a collection of CDs, Tapes and DVDs that all list him as "Eric Crapton"

He is a racist, an idiot, a rapist and easily the most overrated guitarist of all time.

That is why it's fun to tease him, and anyone that worships him.

Quoted from Karl_Hungus:

OP nailed it. Prince.

Although I've never opened it, I always wondered how bad does Crapton butcher Prince's Purple Rain since there are 3 versions on this disc?

(especially since Prince had more talent in one of his fentanyl filled toes than EC has in his entire body)

Quoted from chris_p:

Tina S - 15 years old, effortless, chewing gum loool
DragonForce - Through the Fire and Flames

She's good, but in the video, she looks like someone has kidnapped her and is forcing her to play

#200 2 years ago
Quoted from Elvishasleft:

The fact that most of you tube and people in general think guys who play fast are "the greatest" always cracks me up.
That shit was tired in the 80s nevermind 40 years later.

40 years?

Maybe more like 200 years.

Paganini's guitar and violin playing was so fast back in the 1800s that newspapers would report that people saw Lucifer assisting his fingers on stage.

#204 2 years ago
Quoted from usandthem:

Townshend could do it all.

He could do it all, except figure out not to use your own credit card to download kiddie porn

Another good guitar player, not so good sub-human.

How about the first person inducted into the RR Hall of Fame, and notorious woman's bathroom camera filmer, Chuck Berry?

Quoted from unclerudy:

I prefer this version of Sultans of Swing.

Me too.

Much better without the homophobic slurs that seem to be in every Dire Straights song.

#213 2 years ago

The best part about being a great guitarist is that if you can competently play it fast, you can certainly play it slow.

Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee" is often played on Piano, Violin or Guitar to show proficiency at tempos up to 600 beats per minute

#220 2 years ago

Although he is uncredited, Dick Wagner was actually the guitar player on many Ace tracks

Before the internet, people would get spitting mad when you would tell them that

Just like when you tell someone that Tupac wasn't a gangster, he was actually a professionally trained ballet dancer

Are gangsters and ballet dancers mutually exclusive?

#232 2 years ago
Quoted from Elvishasleft:

I get what you are saying (even about his playing which is pretty lazy and has been forever).

But to say he isn't a major guitarist is just wrong.

The question was Greatest Guitarist

Crapton is the worst guitarist (at least the worst of all the famous ones)

-

About the only good thing you can say about El Crappyton is he was a gateway for kids to find the real Blues

Eric Crapton was wandering around in a stupor and accidentally went down to the crossroads:

Lucifer sees him coming and begins to lead him to hell....

Lucifer: Why are you sad?
EC: Because now I'll suffer for eternity, and although I was famous, I sure was no Robert Johnson.
L: Relax! This place ain't as bad as they say. Listen, do you like alcohol?
EC: Oh my lord, Yes! I love drinking!
L: You are going to love Mondays. We have top quality Michelob beer after midnight! Do you like drugs?
EC: Oh yeah, please tell me you have Heroin and Cocaine?
L: Tuesdays are going to be great. We have meth, coke, heroin, all 100% pure! What about food? You're not vegan, are you?
EC: Hell no! I love meat!
L: Great! We have the biggest barbecue in the universe on Thursdays! You like dicks, right?
EC: Yeah....wait, no! I'm totally straight!
L: Oh sunshine, you're going to hate the weekends....

Prince was a great guitarist, but a total dick in real life.

When Prince was playing on the Fallon show, he noticed that Kirk Douglass, the shows guitarist, had a super rare Epiphone Crestwood from 1960.

Prince offered to buy the guitar, but Douglass said his dad bought it for him when he was a kid, and it was not for sale.

Prince asked if he could borrow the guitar to play for the show taping.

Douglass said he was honored to have Prince play his guitar.

Prince played his songs, threw the guitar up in the air, then walked away, letting it smash to the ground

Total dick move, but when the purple baby did not get his way, he would throw a tantrum, lol

He's got an IQ of 79, so he's not as dumb as everyone thinks.

His magic is that he has found a very narrow demographic to enthusiastically worship him. Like Mo White on the US version of Shameless.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Hendrix allegedly was also a big fan of Billy Gibbons.

Supposedly he said that on The Tonight Show

But I've watched every TV clip of Jimis, and I've never heard him mention Gibbons...it's almost like the internets invent stories propping up every old guitarist with Jimis seal of approval
