First, who says hammer?
I was there this morning. It's really annoying that they don't test their equipment beforehand so the auction isn't delayed by a whole 45 minutes... which speaks to the quality of the rest of the operation... The SM, for instance, had a ton wrong with it, which I discovered during the preview. I get the impression most of these machines are held together by bubblegum and bailing wire. So as to prices, average if not overpriced.
As a side note, does anybody know what that champion pub went for?
Who says "hammer"? The Uniform Commercial Codes of the United States. Most state regulations also use the term for auctions....
Good lineup of games, but I stopped going to Captains Auctions after wasting too many Saturdays seeing the same thing: The games are consigned, and the owners are there bidding up their own games - if not them, then the flippers will bid them up. Deals will never happen there...only go if there's some grail you must have and don't mind paying for it.

Haha, that's the one that jumped out at me too. Great game.
4650 + 23% = 5,719.50
That's more than a brand new game. Who would be dumb enough to pay that?

auctioneer announced the msrp was 5600 plus shipping and tax...said it was a 6400 pin

ROFL. Epic misunderstanding. I thought that was the cool new slang you kids are using these days. Hammer like gavel, got it.

...as well as Thor, Gallagher, Cole Trickle, and Fix-it-Felix.
Many thanks for posting the auction results OP!

So 4k for that turd! Holy Shit, pinball is fucking hot.

Begging your pardon, and with all due respect, Merriam-Webster defines gavel thusly:
gavel
noun gav·el
Definition of gavel
: a mallet used (as by a presiding officer or auctioneer) for commanding attention or confirming an action (as a vote or sale)
Defeinley a good line up....had a good time at the auction....routed tron for 6gs was a little rough....
Quoted from dung:What did the radical go for?
Looks like it sold for $2,100 + $483 (23%) = $2,583
Is that the current market for Radical?

I'd pay that for a Radical.
Holy balls, I got mine for a song, but valued a good one at 2k once shopped. Really loving the game, just wish their was some repo parts support.
The main one I was interested in was the Xenon. 1200 seems like a decent price but then again I have no idea of the condition. Did anyone see it?
It looks like that was the place to be to pickup a pool table cheap. A few of them went for $75 to $100. I bet they needed recovering.
Quoted from uncivil_engineer:I bet they needed recovering.
And or you needed to haul them that day.
LTG : )
What the hell?! That looks like an awesome lineup. I would have bought that City Slicker and Mario Mushroom Kingdom.

You would have paid over $2k after fees/taxes for that mini Mario? I know times have changed, but I went to countless auctions where that game was like $400 or so....I could never see spending that much on that thing.

OK you're right maybe not Mario. I got a little overzealous there.
What is the reason for sellers to go to auction given that buyers have a larger premium to pay that doesn't go to them. I would have thought they could do better just selling it directly. Too much hassle to sell themselves? Hoping for a jackpot from someone overpaying?

Didn't read all the posts, but the common vernacular is "hammer price" to differentiate from total cost out the door.
BTW, I think the best deals were Roy Clark, Blackwater 100 and High Roller. And the taxes and buyer's premium made those deals quite lame as well.

This auction gets a national audience since they allow online bids. All it takes is 1 person in the whole country to bid some stupid high amount...and bam, worth it.
Captains Auctions are overpriced garbage with rampant shill bidding and buy backs when the shill bidding doesn't drive the final bid up high enough. The reason these games are there in the first place is because every last one of them has a defect which would be either incredibly expensive to fix or else even the best technicians have gone through them and can't seem to figure out just what the hell the problem is. If you want a deal at an arcade/pinball auction you need to go back to Super Auctions(slightly less shady but shady nonetheless) and the year 1997.

Any chance you have a temporal displacement machine so that I can get to Columbus, OH in the year 1997 for one of those auctions they used to have there? About 1/2 my collection was purchased there back then and I never spent more than $300 on a machine . I'll give you a machine of your choosing if I can simply borrow it so long as it can handle rather large mass (like a tractor trailer with a 28' box) and two people (living).
I'll be sure to avoid myself since I don't want the space-time continuum to be destroyed. I don't think the 1997 version of me would recognize myself with the weight I've gained and all the hair I had cut off .
I agree with vicjw66. We all like a good deal. And auctions can be fun. But Captains Auctions are shit. The 4 pins and 4 basketballs I have bought from last year had major issues. My Creature was suppose to be shopped and restored ended up with major issues. And LW3 I bought had so much water damage is should have been a parts machine.
The pictures might look good online, but under the hood not so much. Bottom line buyer beware.
I'd still really like to go down there sometime to check it out, mainly for the vids. Some of the prices for games I'd really like to own at some point are stupid cheap.
Well I can't speak on if they're deals or not, but goddamn! City Slicker! Hyperball! How many gils of blood can I sell, quickly?
Quoted from Cornelius:Oh you're killing me.
Not getting that Radical! was killing me. But I went home with my cash in my pocket.
