I have the right bonus ladder that will occasionally skip steps when counting down bonus. Like it will jump from 15,000 to 5,000 and skip the 10,000 step. This will happen with single bonus and double bonus.

I feel simply taking the bonus stepper out and cleaning thoroughly will fix it, but before I do that, anything else to check? the clock spring appears to be the proper tension. I loosened that one turn and that was too loose as it was not strong enough to step the wheel down at all when I did that.

Thanks for the help!

There's a lever on bidirectional steppers that during step down, should engage the ratchet before another lever disengages and allows the ratchet wheel to step down. Is that first lever sticky?

You’re talking these levers right? I’ll check them.

Those arms seemed to move freely. I noticed when u was in there the bakelite was a touch off kilter. I squared that up, and it seems to be okay for now, but I’ll play test it a lot this week and see.

Thanks for the help!

Following I have a similar issue with my Grand Prix.

Did you do what was mentioned above?

The levers were moving ok, I have lubricated the lever pivots and cleaned contacts on the wiper. It seems to be more accurate but not 100%. The issue only happens on the double bonus.

We have the same issue on ours and had to remove it from competition. Looking for someone that remakes those gears as we believe that is what is causing the issue. We have the same issue on the double bonus as well as it counts faster and skips.

Did you try unwinding the clock spring one turn?

I always assumed that the awards were so fast that the EM just couldn’t keep up. Everything else on the machine was playing so well I didn’t want to open it up, it only has 25k plays on it.

It will take time, but you can’t always take the gear from the working bonus unit and see if that fixes the issue. Maybe eBay has some steppers on there you can poach another gear from?

Unwound the clock spring one turn currently getting 100% on the left out hole but the right out hole is still not working 100%.

Crazy. I have Royal flush next to Grand Prix too!

The right bonus unit is on the back of the playfield towards the backglass.

The purple spring is also a keeper for the washer holding the two pivot arms. If you take the spring up and slid it to the end of the shaft then slide the pivot arms it will open the shaft to be lubricated and you won’t need to dismantle the unit. I also lubricated two other pivot points. The machine is working better than it ever has.
