As soon as this was announced I was talking this up to the other guys and gals in Alabama. My first thought was "wouldn't it be awesome if in another year or two this could become a PAPA circuit event". There are just not enough of those in the entire East, let alone the Southeast. We will support you and hopefully be bringing some pins to the show!

Any more news about this? I'd still like to attend and possibly bring a game.

Quoted from UberArcade:

I'm happy to announce Aurcade will be running our arcade tournament on Saturday. We are still working out which machines will be in it. May have a few pins in the tournament list as well. The nice thing is we are offering a guaranteed first place prize of $500 on the main tournament.
Also be sure to book your hotel room by Oct 20th or you may not get the discounted rate of $109 down from the standard $180. The room block and discounted rate expire before the event. Use the link on my website to get the discount http://grandoleexpo.com/hotel/
Hope to see you there!

This is confusing. Are you saying there won't be a true pinball tournament? Is so you can probably count me out. I mean, I was hoping to see this on the PAPA circuit in a few years.

Prize distribution?

Thanks David for volunteering to run the tourney. It usually is a thankless job and takes a lot of work. So I'm thanking you now!

Quoted from JoeHog:

Just booked my hotel.
I want to buy one pinball machine.
How much money should a person bring.
Not looking for new.

Really depends on what you are looking for. If you want a nice DMD pin, 2.5k-5k.

#78 7 years ago

Room booked! See you guys there. We should be bringing 4-5 from B'ham area.

#83 7 years ago
Quoted from dyopp21:

This! We are most likely bringing 4-5 from Mem as well, so if the show curator manages to procure 12 we will be on our way to 20+ machines.
The titles I'll be choosing from:
Firepower
Power Play
Hurricane
Meteor
Pioneer
Amazing Spiderman

I actually meant 4-5 people, not machines. I have a couple I could bring but right now no way to get them there.

Hey David, I seem to remember something about a split-flipper blind draw thing on Friday but can't seem to find it. Am I dreaming this up or did you post it somewhere?

#95 7 years ago
Quoted from dyopp21:

It was discussed on facebook between the BHM and MEM folks, but not here. I would like to do it on Friday night, but with machines in flux and all that, I think we decided not to make it an "official" thing (read: posted on the website). So, I still think a split-flipper blind draw will be a great icebreaker and I still plan to try and get that together late Friday night (was thinking of starting around 10PM since the joint will be open really late. It'll be kinda like Midnight Bowling back in the day), but just in case there is something causing us to not be able to pull it off logistically that night, no bigs since it isn't on the schedule.
Whaddya think?

That sounds good. I know a couple of us won't be there until Friday around 7:30-8pm, and some are driving up Sat.AM.

I just found out I have transport for one game. I can bring Tommy or The Shadow. Are either of these already coming? Anyone have a preference? Also, will anyone there have a dolly to use? Thanks!

#164 7 years ago

Butterfly destroyed me at Pinburgh. Great game though. The Tommy I have is the same one that was in the Papa circuit tourney at Southern Fried. It plays fast and mean and has a ColorDMD. The Shadow I got recently and has had flippers rebuilt and all bugs worked out. Still gets the occasional stuck ball like all Shadows do.

#171 7 years ago

Heck yeah. Love me some Skateball!

Quoted from Beyndtstng:

My friend and I vote shadow. Fantastic game, her favorite along with AFM. Too bad both can't come, have yet to play a good tommy.

So sorry. We have an extra rider now and no room to bring a pin. Maybe next time.

All of us from B'ham had a great time! Finally got to meet Buddy(doughslinger) and Chris(sc93cobra). Special thanks to David Yopp for stepping up to run the tourney. We even had a couple side tourneys late on Friday and Saturday(split flippers and team competition). For those who were unable to attend, the games were plentiful and the lines were almost nonexistent. There were some great titles and even quite a few duplicates like 3 MMR's, 2 Congos, 2 BDK's, 2 I-500's, 2 GNR's, etc. Dialed In was a blast! I counted 70 pins and at least that many video games.

Here are a few pics! Be sure to look at the last one!

Yes, I witnessed it with my own eyes. Tim is a great player, ranked 205 in world right now. He had one extra ball. Sos, into Portal with 2x going. Then battled all the way back to a second SOS and a second Portal! He also got Daft Punk MB and about 4-5 Light Cycles. One end of ball bonus was 35M and the next bonus was 55M! It was insane. The games lasted about 45 minutes. I played 3 full games on BDK while he played this one game.
