Happy to see a GL club. If everything goes right I'm going to be getting one on Wednesday this week!

#407 8 years ago

Awesome! I really like the prototype glass for this machine. But I don't feel like moving the displays. More work than I want to jump into. Has anyone here ever done backglass touchup? I have a small area on the left hand of green that's scratched off.

#413 8 years ago
Quoted from KevInBuffalo:

You can get one with the displays areas relocated for the production machine at bgresto: http://bgresto.com/?p=972

Thanks K3V

Has anyone used bgresto to get the prototype glass for their machine? Wondering how the process works and if the price is way up there?

There is an annoying hum when I turn on my Grand Lizard. I've read this is common with system 11 games. Is there a solution for this problem?

Pinwiki says to make sure all the boards are tightly secured to the ground plain. I believe all my screws are in tightly.

Would like to eliminate the hum if I can.

#425 8 years ago
Quoted from djreddog:

Flash,
You can't get rid of it on Grand Lizard. It's annoying, but unfortunately it's something you have to deal with.

I read an article about putting nylon washers between your sound board and the mounting bracket. Thought it might be worth a try at least?

#444 8 years ago

The buzz on mine is still pretty loud and everything underneath the entire playfield is LED'd, although everything above the playfield is still incandescent including behind the backglass.

#446 8 years ago
Quoted from nephasth:

Inserts and BG are LED'd on mine. GI is still incandescent.

What did you use behind your BG? Just curious if you went with color or just frosted white. I think Im going to do my BG next.

My solenoids fuse went out over the weekend right in the midst of a heated battle between my dad and I. Both of us had high score games going... ended up shutting the game off only to discover it was just a fuse.

Anyone else have trouble with solenoid fuse? Or was this just a fluke?

.

Quoted from Luzur:Well, try starting game again, if the Solenoid fuse pops again it sound to me like a short somewhere around the solenoids, have you checked the ground cables?

I've played 30 or more games since the fuse popped, haven't had any issues. Getting ready to tackle the upper playfield artwork with one of pauz21's decals as soon as I get some free time.

#457 8 years ago

Finally decided to apply my upper playfield decal from pauz21 here are my before, during, and after photos. My only mistake, not cutting out the inserts before applying the decal. Now I have ugly scratches on my inserts. Hopefully they will buff out with some really high grit sandpaper.

Another suggestion I might add, when re-installing the ramp assembly be careful not to tighten this screw too tight (marked in photo with yellow circle) Too tight and it will pinch the assembly causing the ball to get stuck in the lizards mouth.

There are two connectors under the playfield that bring power to the eyes and the switch on the ramp center, don't forget to plug them back in after youre finished.

Hey everyone.. a while back we were discussing the annoying buzzing sound that accompanies the light patterns and how it seems to be extremely common with GL. A few said that there's nothing that can be done besides tightening up your screws. I just want to confirm I had 5 caps replaced on my power supply and a 5v mod installed (blue circle) and voila. My buzzing sound has completely gone away. Here is a pic of what was done.

Side note: nice touch with the green Luzur! I seen a GL with green rails and Yellow/gold legs. Thought it was a pretty snaZZy color matchup.

I did the best I could to get pictures but they didn't turn out great. So I'm typing the values also. As numbered in yellow on my picture.
1. 220uf 35V
2. 100 if 63V
3. 2200uf 35V
4. 100uf 16V
5. 47uf 50V

I don't know resistor values as I am also an electrician noob. But the 1st picture has a clear shot of the colors and bands.

Quoted from nephasth:

Two 1k ohm resistors? Why not one 2k ohm resistor?

It bumps up the +5 volts about a tenth of a volt. Helps the logic run better. Mostly switches. My pin tech told me 2k resistors are not as common as a 1k, so he just uses 2 because he has plenty of them.

#518 7 years ago
Quoted from Luzur:

....Uhm, maybe you could ask your "pin tech" to do the diod guide, sicne those are kinda important to get right

Trust me I tried, he doesn't want to join pinside. Idk if this for personal reasons or if he just doesn't need another distraction consuming his free time.

#520 7 years ago
Quoted from Luzur:

Huh, he cant even tell you what diods it is so you can post it?

Its 2 separate 1k ohm resistors in line.. posted that above.

This 5V mod is only for a smoother logic.

The capacitors are what will eliminate the buzzing sound.

My GL is having an adjust failure each time I turn it off and back on. Just installed new batteries. That didn't fix it. Still giving me the adjust failure. Ideas?

#560 7 years ago
Quoted from djreddog:

This happens quite frequently on a ton of Williams games. 95% of the time the issue is always linked back to the batteries in some fashion. Do you have a remote battery holder installed?

Thank you so much! Switching on and off with coin door button pressed/unpressed once each solved this issue. Now I just have to figure out what all settings I had in place and set some new high scores.

#564 7 years ago

Adjust failure happening again today. Was good for a few hours yesterday. Now it's back to the same thing. Frustrated

#566 7 years ago

I will check every switch in my switch edge test, haven't noticed anything working abnormally.

**UPDATE** all switches in switch edge test are working fine. No issues with anything. Need to find my Multimeter and try to find the test point for the battery holder. Mine is still stock on the board. Maybe a good time to install remote battery holder just in case I have a fault there.

#567 7 years ago

Today when I turned it on, the message is in German. Maybe this is a chip failure.
