I got a hold of him. I now have an upper playfield decal on order. I am thinking I may take strip down the playfield, put some clear down, and fix some wear spots on the lower playfield before I install the upper playfield decal.

Quoted from uncivil_engineer:

Now I need to find a source for 1/16 red plastic that doesn't want me to buy a 24" x 48" sheet!

I ordered some red light filters to try to make a replacement tongue from. Hopefully it won't be too thin. I never was able to find a source for 1/16" plastic.

Quoted from uncivil_engineer:

Are you looking to sell it? Mine looks like it has been stepped on. I have found several bent plastics in my machine, and I am starting to think my machine sat for too long in a hot warehouse.

Not for sale. Came with the prototype game I bought.

It should cleanup well. At least the cabinet looks ok, and the back glass is in good shape.

Used to like some coloured GI, but now into cool white to bring out the art. I did add Comet flame bulbs just to the top of the slings. Gives a nice effect to the swords. GL is so unique with the upper play and no pop bumpers.

I’m actually surprised that nobody has made a replacement head or tongue for GL. Mine are both fine but others could sure use some remakes.

+1 for REALLY wishing that someone would make replacement lizard heads...

Someone on Pinside some years ago where talking about vacuummolding those, but i didnt hear anymore since that.

#958 5 years ago

I sent pictures of my lizard head to someone on the Buffalo Pinball Facebook page. Post there or find and message Christopher Camacho if interested.

I thought I saw a hint about new code for this machine but I have no other details. Anyone have more info on this?

I put LED flashers in the sockets that coincide with the lizard head and they look great. The decal for the upper pf will make a big difference.

Can’t it be reproduced in a 3D printer? And...I don’t know much about 3D printers but they seem to be used to reproduce a lot of things these days.

I did that and weirdly they worked for around a year and then started randomly flashing and only installing incandescent ones again cured it. Never did work out why!

Hmmm, could work aswell, someone needs to try it.

hi all

I have been bringing a dead grand lizard back to life. i am down to the final 2 issues.

Right magna save doesnt work.
Sound effects

Magna save - i have done a switch test and the rt magna save switch registers. I have tested Q9 and it is ok. i have checked to see if there was power to the coil and it does. same power as the left magna save. not sure where to go from here

Sound status was unknown until i replaced a missing amp chip. new sound rom was made. the background sounds are there but i am not hearing the other sounds.

I also did a music test in the diagnostics. the music plays (congo drums). I went to the sound test and there was nothing. Anyone have any ideas on where to start to figure this one out?

thanks for you help

fixed my GL all good now.

for the magna save i replace Q9 and also transistor Q5. Q5 drives Q9. i had both parts and i just replaced them and the magna save works.

For the audio I checked the schematics and had a couple of possibilities. I noticed that the sound processor was socketed. Good posibility that those go bad frequently. I went to reseat the chip and a lot of legs had broken off and the others were rusted. Removed the socket. replaced it and put in a new processor and all of the sounds work. Double checked by pressing the sound test on the board and also through the menu

Finally had some time to remove ramps and clean... am I missing G.I. lamps or are those empty holes
I couldn’t tell from manual

#973 5 years ago

There are a couple of empty lampspots in mine aswell, must be from factory back in the day. Ive been pondering if i should just put in some extra lampbulbs in those spots or not.

#974 5 years ago

There are even screw holes under the playfleid. More light is always good...

#975 5 years ago

I think the game is pretty well lit. The led’s when done really bring out the play field.

Any update on the proto plastics? Since mine will be undergoing a full tear down soon, figured I'd check.

Going to be a long wait. Life has me busy and I haven't made initial contacts yet.

Gotcha. I'd say Planetary Pinball would be your best bet. They ended up reproducing the proto backglass, I believe.

Just put a kit on mine. Major difference

I don't believe they make plastics but I would need to license through them.

It’s a Grand Lizard party at Pintastic! Besides my Grand Lizard, there’s another one in Free Play, and a third is awaiting repair in the vendor hall.

#987 4 years ago

I really need to replace the Lizard head on my machine...if anyone has a lead on one, please PM me!

Oh, yeah. Perhaps CPR in Canada would be willing to take on the project.

I've not seen repros yet. Perhaps you could repair yours with epoxy or resin?

Ya know, Pinfatuated have contacts in the printing business since he is gonna fix up the deal on mine and his plastics, although i havent heard anything from him in a long time now, maybe you could talk to him about helping you with yours aswell?

Got the top side torn down mostly tonight. Very happy my upper playfield barely has any wear. I'll be going with lightning flippers and no rubber on the center post to make it really mean.

For anyone who has successfully put LED flashers in GL, could you advise which specific resistors need to be removed, pretty please? Don't wanna screw anything up.

#993 4 years ago

Got all my inserts swapped for LEDs. No flicker/ghosting. WOOHOO! Waiting on my Comet order to do the GI and backbox and my Marco order to mylar the upper PF and install the new lightning flipper bats. I'm thinking this one didn't get a ton of play with how nice the upper PF is. All the metal was tumbled for 2 days and came out gorgeous. Star posts were soaked in degreaser and look awesome. Can hardly wait to play.
