5 isn't usually enough. I've had 2732s get errors on writing after 15-20 minutes of erasing. Try erasing for 30 or more minutes. Fixed the issue for me both times.

I've done the blank check before with positive results and still the chip didn't burn. I re-erased, then tried again and it worked. Not sure why, but was glad I didn't have a useless eprom.
