I recently picked up a Wipeout. I got everything working except for one switch and a column of lights. I know that Gottlieb ties in the switches and the lights together but I think that these issues are seperate.

I have circled the column of lights that need work. I swapped out Q51 which looks to be the transistor that controls this column but when I did that, R23 got white and hot and unsoldered itself, so I turned it off.
The other image is the switch that is acting up.

Did you use the correct part to replace the failed transistor or FET? What part did you use?

My local store gave me a NTE2987 to replace it. Claimed it was the equivalent.

That does look like a valid cross.
    Oriented correctly?

Yeah it is. I even swapped Q51 and Q52 to see if that would fix it and it did not. I only saw the register get hot the once and it is no longer doing it after I reflowed it. So maybe the solder was just broke on one end when it got hot.

Did you verify that all traces are still intact? If the resistor got hot enough to melt solder, there may be other solder joins which have been compromised.
