Is it possible when you replaced the coil, the diode on the coil was taken out prior to you replacing the pop bumper driver board ?

Coil diode on new coil installed. Did you install the pop bump brd at the same time as the new coil.?
Quoted from KStroble:Yep ground was on wrong side. Is this what caused the transistor to blow on the pop board? So what caused the original coil to melt down?
Yes, reversed wires will knock out tge diode and possibly the transistor. The original board and or coil basically lived its life and when power last applied, took it out. Call it Electronic Fatigue.
