the playfield doesnt look bad at all. should be easy to repaint the cab.

The playfield is a little rough but will clean up good. I would like to find decals for the cabinet instead of painting it.

Sad to say this, but I sold my Tee'd Off with its custom colorization Pin2DMD. I had made a special hole in one animation to go along with last weeks Masters which I thought came out looking pretty cool. So this is my sad good bye picture.

Does anyone know the assembled height of a Lights, Camera, Action! with the lighted topper? I have one incoming and I only have a couple of spots where I can put tall games in my basement.

I feel your pain. My Rescue 911 has not had the light on top of it for years... in my old house I had to mod the back box slightly so I could mount it from the inside and drop it down a few inches... in my current house there is not enough ceiling height for any toppers on my pins...

I don't think this has been done yet. I have been playing a lot of Vegas pinball lately and decided to create a Vegas rule sheet. I know you are thinking left loop all day but there really is more to the game. This is NOT complete, mainly because of the Star features that are very difficult to get to and I really do not know how many different STAR features are "easy" and "hard"... my guess is there are 3 of each.

I have the "Catch-Up" feature disabled on my game. I'm not sure when it is actually available.

Initial thoughts, having recently played the game a lot... left orbit is ok for immediate points but, if you want to get 20 million+ go for the drops first to build up the left orbit multiplier. Don’t discount the points achieved in the “Cashier mode”. There’s 20 million points available there and you can play it multiple times.

The SLOT jackpots and super jackpots are fairly rare “mystery” award type events. Even if an opponent is awarded these, it’s not impossible to catch them with multiplied orbits, multiball, cashier mode, or a combination of those things. Only frustrating rules are how random the game is and that there’s no tournament mode that could make random awards the same order for every player.

Here is the first go:
--------------------------
--VEGAS PINBALL MACHINE RULE SHEET--

SMALLER POINTS AWARDED BY SWITCH HITS (I know every single one is not listed):
Rubber switches and many other random switches -30 points and these also toggle the “SPIN” lamp at the red stand-ups
Pop Bumpers Score 5K- also toggle “SPIN” lamp
Hitting a card at the red stand up targets scores 1K-11K (face cards are 10K, Ace is 11K)
Joker rollover- 25K
Saucer/Hole Shot- 25K
Drop Targets- each score 10K, and completing them scores 50K
Extra Ball Rollover: 10K-70K (as lit)
Left/Right Outlanes score 100K

-LIST OF ALL MYSTERY AWARDS:
-Flash Joker Special (this is the Joker rollover at the top of the playfield)
-Light One Star on backglass
-Score 5K Points
-Light 1 Mil. (awarded by rolling over the left orbit "continue switch" right side of PF)
-Flash Extra Ball (hurry-up)
-3 Pulls on Slot Machine
-Insta Multi-Ball (ALL SCORING IS DOUBLED DURING MULTIBALL)
-Insta Multi-Plier (high roller left orbit)
-Light 100X Target (this is the CENTER red standup target)
-Award One Special
-Count Down Bonus (hurry up @ red standup targets) - you can add 2 million points to this shot by first passing through the Joker Rollover at top of playfield.
-Award Extra Ball >This award is not available using "Select-A-Feature"<

LIST OF ALL SELECT-A-FEATURE AWARDS:
All the same choices as above mystery awards BUT, there is no "Award Extra Ball". In it's place is:
-“Double or Nothing" (this is a 50/50 chance of doubling your score or getting no award)

-XTRA BALL TOP PLAYFIELD ROLLOVER-
-Awards 20K,30K,40K,EXTRA BALL

-SAUCER (HOLE) SHOT-
LITE the Asterisk/Star Lamp: lites at the saucer by any time you hit a displayed star at the red stand-up targets.
-When the asterisk lamp is lit, entering the saucer scores 300K points.
LITE the Lucky 7 Lamp : lites at the saucer any time you hit a displayed "7" at the red stand-up targets.
-When the Lucky 7 Lamp is lit, entering the saucer lites a 7 on the backglass. 7 of these 7's lites the "QUEEN SPECIAL" at the red stand up targets
-When the Mystery Lamp is lit, entering the saucer awards a random Mystery award SEE ABOVE LIST!

LITE "Select-A-Feature”: lites at saucer when you obtain 3 Jokers: Jokers can be earned as a skill shot at the Joker rollover at the top of the playfield OR, when hitting a red stand-up displaying a joker (It looks like a U with a downward sign above it.)

-When Select-A-Feature is lit, entering the saucer allows the player to choose ONE randomly shown award on the backglass. The right flipper button randomly scrolls through the available awards and the left flipper button chooses the shown award. You have about 5 seconds to choose this award so, be quick about it. You really only have 7-8 choices to scroll through, during this 5 seconds.

-When the "Slot Machine" Lamp is lit, entering the saucer gives you "one slot pull" shown on the score display.
The possible SLOT MACHINE awards are:
Super Jackpot - 7-7-7 = 20 MILLION ->The game immediately pauses and you are prompted to enter your initials as THE SLOT KING… hilarious!
Jackpot - ALL 3 SAME ITEM = 4 MILLION?
BAR-BAR-BAR = 500K
Any-Cherry-Cherry-500K
Any-Any-Cherry = 250K
Anything Else= 50K

-THE “3 STARS" FEATURE- (a mystery wizard award)

-You earn this mode when you light 3 "STARS". You earn them one at a time from MYSTERY and Select-A-Feature awards.
-I believe that these are random and you have to choose "EASY" or "HARD" with flippers before you know the challenge.
3 Stars "Easy Features": don't know
3 Stars "Hard Features": don't know
———————————————————————————

-DROP TARGETS-
Completing the drop targets advances the left orbit HIGH ROLLER multiplier by 2X, 3X, then 5X AND ALSO lites MYSTERY at the saucer if it's not lit.

-5 YELLOW STAND UP TARGETS-
-Complete the available flashing yellow arrow standup targets earns a V-E-G-A-S letter. You don't lose progress when your ball drains. Once you earn all VEGAS letters, the cashier target will flash for a 2-4-6-than 8 Million Point Shots (Putting this game setting on EASY really helps to balance out the scoring tremendously).

-HIGH ROLLER LEFT ORBIT-(I recommend setting this to EXTRA HARD)
10K,20K,40K,1 MIL, then back to 10K
NOTE: The high roller shot is NOT time based! It resets if ANY OTHER switch outside of the 5 left orbit switch sequence is hit. This is especially important to know during multiball. It forces you to hold a ball on the left flipper if you want to loop that shot over and over OR, use both balls and juggle them both to that shot... Extremely challenging to do.

-CASINO WHEEL "SPOT-A-CARD"-
-The three red stand-up targets collect the displayed card on the wheel. 5 in a row collects an EXTRA BALL and getting the all collects a SPECIAL. (Non significant points are also awarded.)

-THE ODD “3 STARS" FEATURES-
-You earn these modes when you light 3 "STARS". You earn STARS one at a time either from the MYSTERY or Select-A-Feature modes.
-I believe that these modes are random and you have to choose "EASY" or "HARD" with flippers before you know the challenge/mode.
3 Stars "Easy Features": don't know what they are?
3 Stars "Hard Features": don't know what they are?

Added over 3 years ago:

Additional scoring info: EXTRA BALL is set to award 1 Million Points. (EB’s on my game are turned off)

Added over 3 years ago:

SPECIALS are also worth 1 Million Points. (Specials do not award credits on my game.)

Added over 3 years ago:

I believe that end of ball bonus is how many VEGAS letter you have collected times 100K. Not certain on the actual amount. Vegas letters stay from ball to ball when that setting is VERY EASY or EASY.

Added over 3 years ago:

I reached the choices for 3 stars again and when selecting “Hard”, the two options are “Award two extra Balls” or “Double our score”. The goal was to hit 4 of 5 yellow flashing arrows within 10 seconds.

Thanks for that! Looks like I'll need just under 85". I only have one spot in my basement that will fit that, so now I know where it has to go. Much appreciated.

yea, it sucks ))... I had to unmount the topper so it hangs down front... but the red&blue toplights have even stronger effect on the playfield

uhm, I'm new to gottlieb, just aquired the Lights camera action machine... left flipper coil burned after 15 minutes... below somebody really made a mess (there's a reason why I don't make dough), not a single coil is connected the same way (harhar, you know), and both left flippers' oes switches obviously sparked a lot...

I noticed oes swithes on both left flippers already have been changed...

been quite a while since I owned a couple of bally/williams machines... memory's comming back... slowly

I suspect problem is somewhere else than just the oeses... any clue will be helpful

That's awesome. I tried to snag PAPA's Vegas as an underrated street level game but was a few hours too late. If I hadnt hesitated and put it on my first list, I'd be playing it now.

These system 3s are really neat games. I get why they didn't stand up to WMS at the time, but I enjoy the quirky scoring and fresh ideas of Gottlieb.

Agree. I think you have to be familiar with a lot of other machines before you can really appreciate how different the street level games play.

Do you remember how much Papa was asking for it? They removed all the sold games from the list.

Car Hop- anyone know how to make the coin settings save? when you change them in the test menu, they go right back to 1 coin 1 play no matter what setting you make each coin slot. even if you scroll around through the adjustments, the next time coin settings comes back around, its reset at 1 coin 1 play. all other settings work and save fine, just the coin settings have issues.

#816 3 years ago

SOLVED. you actually have to go one coin at a time in the menu. there is a hidden section kinda. 1 coin equals zero second coin in equal zero, 3 coins= in equals credit, etc. very strange. only 6 gottliebs were programmed like this. the 6 street versions.

On system 3 pins. What exactly is the screw in the top of the flipper bat screwed into? The one on the left flipper of my CBW has come out a few times but doesn't seem to affect the flipper in a negative way.

It screws into the flipper shaft. You may not have the correct screw if it keeps coming out. It should be a tapered machine style screw with a rounded top. I see people just jam whatever screw they had laying around in those. Could be the threads in the shaft are chewed up and destroyed because a wood screw was in there.

The reason you don’t notice is because there are also 4 tabs that hold the plastic over the metal shaft. Having the correct screw in place should prolong flipper bat life.

Lights Camera Action, Gottlieb system 3 problem

hey again Betelgeuse and pb456

I figured out without photos that wiring was really wrong, a left flipper coil blew short after...

thanks for pics, they could help...

so... I took the good coil from the upper flipper and installed it on blown bottom-left flipper... so I can wait for the postman to come

I belive I rewired everything correctly, works fine, nothing's hot...

but there's an old PROBLEM:

-after replacing all the lightbulbs and some time of playing... one light and a diode blew (literally)

-after playing a while, sound often goes quiet (but not silent)

-after playing a while I notice a swith matrix problem (multiball launches the locked ball randomly, but it requires another ball to hit (any) switch on the playfield... so computer registers a switch-on somewhere)

yea, I'll run the diagnostic test after "playing a while"... It looked all perfect when running it cold...

still waiting for a postman to come.. I run my machine on few nails instead of correct fuses

any clues?

#823 3 years ago

I haven't finished setting up LCA yet, so I am not too familiar with it at this point. I am just overloaded with games up on end right now, after a recent bulk buy.

#824 3 years ago

Hello,
just picked up a ratty Wipe Out - I'll be doing some work on it although not a full blown restoration. The bottom of the PF is the worst part of it with some really crappy hand paint restoration. Does anyone have a lower PF scan I could use? If not I'll do it myself, but could save me some time.

I'll try to post a few pics along the way.

Cheers!

>> Makes me think that one of the light sockets may be shorted or you may have a shorted bulb, I would take each bulb out, test with a digital multimeter and verify that each bulb is not shorted, and again with each socket. Bulb sockets especially the 44 type I've had plenty of trouble with. Sometimes the insulator between cathode and anode gets worn through or was never made right in the first place.

>-after playing a while, sound often goes quiet (but not silent)

>> Sure sounds to me (pun intended) to be a failing amplifier on the sound board. I do not have the schematic - anyone else have a copy?

#827 3 years ago
Quoted from Parkshow30:

Has anyone tried floating the sound board to get rid of the buzz on a system 3? I read through the Data East thread about speaker hum as I was having sound problems with my hook, loud hum and some crackling, and a lot of people on that thread “floated” their sound board and had great results. Floating the sound board is removing it from ground by using some combination of nylon washers or bolts. I used nylon washers on my Hook and the crackling is gone and the hum is at least 50% less. My wipeout has a VERY loud hum but not every time. I have been very fortunate so far with this pin and haven’t had to do ANY board work so I don’t even know if the system 3 sound boards are similar to the Data East ones.
Thanks

Good info on system 3 hum in "Gottlieb System 3 speaker hum buzz...Calling all experts!!" thread (Topic ID: 213315).

#828 3 years ago

yea, I solved it...

you're right! one of the light sockets, or more of them, shorted... randomly... (the last in a row blew, all other lights were ok)... so it also messed with switches, since gottlieb use shared strobe lines (still don't totally understand that)... And I got no more sound issues as well

this was annoying!
but so simple...

thanks anyway, if I only got your advice a week earlier

ok, next problem: system doesn't register left flipper pressed... change 3906 transistor on the flipper sensor board?

(I belive today finallyyyy the postman arrives with a new coil and stuff... wheeee, I'll have me a new pinball machine on a new year's eve)

It's been a while for me too, but if I remember correctly, the white plastic bat just snaps onto the metal shoe from above, then the screw secures it to the shoe. It could be that the screws kept coming loose and someone used glue to help hold the bats in place. I had seen that before.

If you're just replacing the plastic flipper shoe, remove the flipper shaft from the machine and then break the shoe from the shaft. Hammer and pliers are your friends.

I have a gladiators, I replaced the flipper button switches and (not sure if this was the case before) but the upper right flipper sometimes looks/feels limp/weak. Could this be a clip on the flipper button switch that has to be made sure it is tight, contacts making good connection? Any thoughts for when I go check at the neighbors house. THanks!

Likely the flipper button switch is not making contact on the second switch, or the flipper needs rebuilding on the top. Those are the simple reasons. Make sure the upper flipper is held in very well on the flipper pawl (the piece that you screw the flipper into that connects to the coil arm), and check that the bushing is not messed up or dirty. Also check wires going into the coil, and if they're flimsy, resolder well.

One thing I've noticed especially with Gottlieb System 80s/3s is the wiring tends to be corroded or coated with SOMETHING inside the jacket that makes it especially difficult to solder.

Any more, when replacing a coil/switch/etc I strip the wire, probably 1/2", and sand the bare wire with 400 grit or 600 grit sandpaper.

Once done, I then use some of the "waxy" flux, and get ready to hook it up - clean the hole on the coil, switch, remove old solder etc...

And of course clean up old flux with DNA.

I've found this is way to make better connections.

I wonder what's on the wires - corrosion or coating? I may never know.,

Quoted from pb456:

One thing I've noticed especially with Gottlieb System 80s/3s is the wiring tends to be corroded or coated with SOMETHING inside the jacket that makes it especially difficult to solder.
Any more, when replacing a coil/switch/etc I strip the wire, probably 1/2", and sand the bare wire with 400 grit or 600 grit sandpaper.

the skill roll I am working on has wire like this... absolutely hates solder. I may have to get my dremel with a brush disc to scuff it up.

Have a Mario Andretti with loud hum during attract mode. I have reflowed the connectors on the Auxiliary Sound board and Auxiliary Power supply . Also replaced VR1 on the Auxiliary Sound board. I do get the two beeps and all sound /speech works fine. I have not done the ground modification on the Transformer case. Anyone have other leads? Thanks.

Quoted from seshpilot:

I have a MARIO Andretti pin where the center post isn’t going down during gameplay but tests fine during test mode. Does anyone have either:
1. a pic of this mechanism on the underside of the play field so I can make sure it is actually assembled correctly?
And/Or
2. Any idea why this is happening? The coil is obviously working, as is the mosfet driver or it wouldn’t work at all correct?!

What did you do on your Mario Andretti post to get it going again? Coils seem to ohm out ok, but it stays up even when the light is out. Seems like it's tight in the sleeve, and the magnet does seem to work - but my gut tells me it's not repulsing from the electromagnetism in those coils (test out ok at a little more than 60 ohms each)...
