I have apparently fried my u8g chip. I see it frequently referred to as a PAL chip. is this the same thing even though it says GAL?

It was Ed @ GPE who had the low-cost alternative for this chip and he lost the code to remake it:

Steve Young still has the chip for $20. He lists it with the A8 controller on this page:

Just call or email Steve and ask for XO1079. He does list it with the A8 controller on the page I linked to above.
