Hi everyone.

Looking for some advice on where to focus with troubleshooting a System 3 display driver board. I got this board non-working and missing a U8 chip. I bought a new U8 from PBR and installed it. Upon plugging it in I checked all of the voltages and they are in spec. However there are artefacts all over the display with blank (black) sections regularly spaced apart. You can actually see what should be on the display in the lit sections but it is hard to make out. The animations move and progress normally. I have replaced U4 with no change in behaviour. This board was tested in a working game so ribbon cables and other hardware are not at fault. I suspect one of the other ROMs is at fault but not sure which one it could be.

Can anyone advise before I start shotgunning them all? @noflip95?

Here are some pics from the display test. Unfortunately I can't tell what's going on.

So the only improvement so far was from U1? Interesting.

Let me know if you have any luck after changing U2.

So I replace every chip on this card and still garbage when playing scene from the movie...I'm thinking that it may comes from the DMD itself cause I ears some noise coming from it just when screen blinking. It may had trouble when did a bad replacement on A5. As it is out of gas (probably the original one) I will change it as soon.

Good luck

Finally, success!

I replaced U4, U9, U10, U11 and U2 with no improvement. Then I decided to replace U13 which had caused other display artefacts as described in my other thread: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/gottlieb-system-3-vertical-lines-on-display

And it worked!

It is odd that on the 2 display drivers I have repaired recently, U13 has been the problem on both. It looks like a common failure point and I'll be replacing it before U4 in future.

It's always nice to see another person that actually enjoys Tee'd Off. About a year ago I replaced my DMD with pin2dmd and started learning to colorize it. There are still parts to do, but it's sure looks good in color.
