Hi All, I recently picked up a non-working Totem. This is my first Solid State game so I am working through it with the help of online guides and help here. I recently rebuilt the power supply and was about to test it when I thought to rechecked all the fuses. This machine has what appears to be a factory 1 Amp Slo-Blo on the small transformer. From what I read this is a popular mod to these Sys1 games. This fuse gave me an iffy reading. The continuity was shaky and pulling it out of the clip completely (I usually leave one leg in) showed a small burn spot and testing it again revealed it was indeed blown. So, I loaded in another fuse and after a bit it blew as well.

Additional Info: this game has a Ni-Wumpf board and original displays. Not sure if there is a workaround for eliminating this transformer? I know pinwiki has a potential workaround but has anyone done it?

I read these small transformers can get damaged easily. Is this a sign the transformer is toast? Any tips for testing or fixing this issue?

Fun game. I recently got mine working too except for the tilt bob. I will be anxious to hear how your tilt bob works with the Ni-Wumpf board. That is another problem.

Regarding your small transformer, the 1A slow blow fuse is factory on the input/primary side. The Pinwiki describes adding two additional fuses on the output/secondaries. If you have the two outputs fused, and if one of them blows, it might help narrow down where you have an overcurrent issue. Fusing the outputs will protect your hard to find small transformer.

See the pinwiki section 2c.

Remove the AC in jack from the power supply and retest.

thanks for the tip. Fuse does not blow when AC not plugged into PS board. Measuring AC voltages at the plug with working fuse:

Pin1: 12.09
Pin2: 12.09
Pin3: GRND
Pin4: 14.57
Pin5: 14.53
Pin6: 37
Pin7: 32.50

so, this must be an issue on the PS board? Info on my work on that is here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/rottendog-gps001-repair

Thanks any and all for the help!

Lint I have an aftermarket sys 1 power supply you can borrow in Lodi. PM me if you want to grab it

Do a continuity test on the ps input pins for shorts to each other and ground.

Pins 1&2 are shorted. I can occasionally get continuity from pin 1&2 to ground as well. Not consistent.

What all parts were changed on the ps rebuild?

#10 3 years ago

Pins 1 and 2 are for the 5 volt section of the ps. Is it possible that one of the diodes is shorted, installed incorrectly, or diode banding isn’t correct?

pinballdaveh etal,
You have been a great help! When I thought this was a transformer issue I started this thread. Since it seems it relates to my PS rebuild, care to pick up at this thread?
