I just acquired a Buck Rogers machine and got it home yesterday and after the usual go through I got the machine up and running with the exception of the displays. When checking the power supply with and without the displays connected I get no 42 VDC for the credit display and I only get 13.5 VDC on the 60 VDC pin, the 8 and 4 VDC outputs are good. Adjusting the trimpot makes no difference on the output and if I blackout the room I can see the displays light and show score so I know the displays are working and the logic is good. I am pretty savvy with williams stuff but I am new to these System 1 Gottliebs. Can anybody point me in the right area on the power supply to start testing for the high voltage, any help will surely save me time.

On a couple of the J2 connectors, you need to use the common on that connector (pin 5) to get a correct reading, not the cabinet ground. Can't recall which ones. Check your 42v and 60v again using that common.

Assuming your input voltages are good, if you still don't have the correct output voltages, the power supply board likely needs rebuilding (or replacing).

Have fun servicing that power board. It has a retarded design to it....

Start with verifying the connectors. The header pins where a mess on my Buck Rogers. You have to desolder a regulator to get at them though. Probably smart to run an extra ground wire to the power board like seen on pinrepair.com

Yep thats the first thing I read on that board. A fellow pinsider sent me a link for a schematic on that power supply and thats exactly what the doctor ordered.
