Hello, I have had my Genie for just a few weeks and have received so much good information here and it has helped me get it to pretty good playing condition. The CPU is a Ni-Wumpf, and the Power Supply and Driver Board are made by Rottendog. I finally got all the EOS switches set up where the flippers are strong and not frying any coils. The main problem I have now and is the game crashes anytime during a game maybe 30% of the time. Very frustrating. It just quits and happens anytime during play so its not like when the ball hits a certain target or area. The scores remain but you have to reset to play a new game. I am hoping someone has some insight to this issue. I have been told it could be a diode issue but have checked those and they seem ok. Thanks to anyone who responds.

    #1 - Check edge connectors.
    #2 - see #1
#3 - John has a nice write up on his website:

Thanks for your reply and the good information. Forgive me as I am new to all this, learning everyday but new, What is an edge connector?

Got it, thank goodness for YouTube. the game has a Ni-Wumpf CPU and Rottendog Driver and Power Supply Boards. I am not sure if it has been re pinned. Will check them out. Thanks

Also I have contacted Ni-Wumpf as when I run a coil test the last number 12 greatly dims the game and I am wondering if somewhere in there lies the problem. I read where any type of voltage drop will cause a crash.

Damn Genie is playing so well but crashes at all different times during the game. Keeping track and it is maybe 40% of the time. Does not matter where it hits it just stops. So frustrating I would pay to have someone straighten this out for me.

Ni_Wumpf says "The root cause is that the coil is getting energized, and as it relaxes, the built up magnetic field bleeds back through the ground w/out the diode, this will cause the ground level to bump up a bit, and the CPU voltage will blip."

I would buy that but just now it crashed when the middle yellow target was hit and dropped. It seems to crash without a coil being energized. It crashed when the ball kicked out of the top hole where you rack up accumulated points. It does not matter where it is on the board. HELP I am starting to day drink!

The existing white plugs within your machine that attach onto your new boards -- those are what often need to be repinned.
Start with connectors into the power supply and between power supply and CPU board.

And then read the Ni Wumpf manual regarding Interboard Harness.
Replacement contacts would be part number 08-52-0072:
    https://www.greatplainselectronics.com/products.asp?cat=77

But I don't agree with their statement regarding additional ground connections.
Although a good set of connection contacts provides sufficient power and ground connections to all boards, *Nothing* beats a good, solid, screw terminal ground connection with a heavy ground connection.

Coil #12 - which coil on machine is that one? Does it have the back-EMF diode (prevents the issue mentioned by Ni Wumpf)? Does that solenoid move freely? Does it need a bit of works such as new coil sleeves? If diode is present, is it good (possibly not)?

I think the slam switches might be making it shut down during play. These switches are normally closed and if they don't have enough pressure they can lose contact and cause this issue.
If it were me... I would just solder a jumper across the switch and be done with it. At minimum doing this will take the switches out of the equation.
