Sorry to resurrect and old thread but I was looking at the website and couldn’t quite figure out which Rom to grab for a spring break with both free play and the single ball Rom.

Also is there a good source for getting roms burned? I could buy the equipment to do it, but I would use it so infrequently that it would be a waste.

Steph at hobbyroms.com does a fantastic job. Before I really knew what I was looking for I could just say what I wanted (ie: can you get me free play on Centaur?) and they'd take care of the rest.

Will remember that for the future!

Astill with Astill Entertainment reached out to me to burn a Rom set for me.

I tried burning the free play rom for Genesis (705 - prom 1) but when I boot the game the flashers are all cycling and there are no displays. Game won't start either. Put my original 705 rom in and it boots fine. Do I also need to burn the prom 2 that is in the zip file? The instructions say you only have to replaced prom 1. Anyone installed this in Genesis and know the answer? Thanks!

i have installed it working in genesis. it was a long time ago but i definitely burned both roms. I remember having to burn them both again because i forgot to check the 5V wasnt turned right up ( it was).. but the files worked fine once i put new chips in

I hope it is only the first one that is required. When I got mine from Astill for my 706 (Spring Break) it was only the single rom, and I was told the other one didn't need to be changed out. I'm finishing up my cabinet work so I haven't put it back together yet to try it out.

I am having trouble programming the 2764 and 2716 ROMs for Genesis as my programmer can't do voltages over 18v.

The 2764A and 2716A seem to be programmable at lower voltages - are there any issues using these chips?

Or are there other chips I can substitute that can program at lower voltages?

EDIT: Looks like 27C64 EPROMs from a couple of other manufacturers will work OK. I will give these a go.

No problems at all. All the chips read at 5 volts. You can also use 2816 eeproms as a sub for 2716's.
