On B/W games, there's a tool available to give the proper spacing between the crank and the bushing, and I find it works well on older Williams and Stern games as well. Gottliebs, however, have a unique two sort bushing which goes on both sides of the crank. Is there any trustable way to position the crank on these? I'm finding that a lot of heights result in reduced flipper power or even stuck flippers, and no way to fix besides playing around with it and hoping...

basically the crank should float in between the two of the bushings, touching neither. if it touches one of them then you get weak or stuck flippers.

The ledge on the flipper shaft, with the arrow pointing to it on the attached picture, should be resting on top of the top bushing, that is what supports the flipper. You just need to make sure that is pushed against the bushing, then hold the crank in between the bushings and tighten the screws.

There's a lot of room between the bushings though. Mine isn't touching either but it still seems to be dragging on the sleeve

that can either be an off angle on the coil, try loosening the hold screws and see if you can align it a little better.

or the plastic end on the plunger that has a pin through it is worn or nicked by the roll pin when reassembled, if that makes sense.
