have a gottlieb surfer and just diving in. flip the machine on and this stepper unit with 5 cams in the head just locks the coil on it. i can't identify this stepper as the label is missing. anybody have some guidance as to what unit this is? seems if i manually hit the release coil on the AX (reset control relay) the stepper coil releases. also noticing that during this the SCM is spinning non-stop, and the score reels are not attempting to reset.

A stepper with 5 cams in the head of a Gottlieb multiplayer game is likely the Player Unit. It needs to take several steps during reset to get back to the Player 1 Ball 1 position. Along the way there are usually two positions where it pauses for the score reels to reset.

gotcha, sounds like my problem is likely due to this player unit not cycling like it should, and it's coil just staying engages. any help on what is suppose to allow this coil to cycle and not stay engaged?

This switch on the score motor should pulse when the motor runs, instead of locking the Player unit solenoid on.

thanks. can i get a refresher on reading gottlieb switch stacks for the SCM? standing on the left of machine looking down on the SCM, i BELIEVE #1 is the lower right of the scm, and you count up going clockwise around it. then a is closest to ground, and proceed upwards alphabtically.

I like to start with #3 because it's the only one at an angle.

success! that helped a lot, along with a few other things to get it working up to this point! seems like the only part left is when you restart a game and it goes to shoot the ball out, it seems like the SCM spins longer than it should, but the ball always shoots out. question is, what switch fires the outhole coil to actually shoot the ball out? like to check that and see if maybe it's dirty or not adjusted correctly, and when the scm spins a few times it eventually makes contact and shoots the ball out.
