Awesome! I am just now rebuilding my Spirit playfield after getting it also back from resto and clearcoat. I have many pictures, and would be happy to share if you would like. Unfortunately for me, I did not have a NOS playfield, so I had to tear it all down and wait for it to come back. Gave me time to touch up the cabinet some (it is in very nice original shape) and to rebuild all the flipper & other mechs. I have completed the upper PF (for the most part) and have teh harness reinstalled on the main with the light sockets soldered (that took a good while).
It has been fairly straightforward so far, but hi-res photos have helped a lot.
Cool that we are both doing the same thing at the same time. I am using the new plastics from PBR - they also have new spinners.
Quoted from blownfuse:I'll be watching this one, it will look beautiful. That game is going to play super fast and crazy with those clear coated NOS playfields.

System 80, not just a job, it's an adventure
This guy knows his Spirits!
Well you live in CA so that will probably be legal soon.
Quoted from practicalsteve:My god, I think I want to ask for that playfields hand in marriage....
Looks great! Where's the rest of the game?
Did you make the stencils yourself or buy them?
Quoted from thierryv:Omg, that PF would be great in my restored cabinet

Hopefully not TOO fast

Yes 100 percent hand cut stickers, takes about 10 hours to make them.
PF has still the original mylar and it would be to tricky to remove without doing damage, so not a high end restoration for me but just a nice looking game ...

Interesting. Is that operator-installed mylar? Never seen a Spirit with mylar. I removed spots of mylar on my playfield before sending it out for restoration. I went VERY slow and it came up OK. Lost a little of the black, but mine did not go over the inserts either. Not sure how those would hold up.
Also: is the Plexiglass cover for the lower display supposed to be clear? Mine was tinted dark. I need to replace it, and want to make sure the right one goes in there.
Interesting. I had a half-moon above the lower display, but none elsewhere. I was planning to use a "smoked" plexiglass for replacement.
How did you cut the new plexiglass? I am wondering how to accomplish that. Wondering if a hardware store can do it.
Quoted from thierryv:Excuse me, as my English is poor here the tools you need to cut the plexi / drill the holes

Let the line (or dog pile, as the case may be) begin.
To prevent air balls on those beautiful new playfields, be sure to replace the old style yellow Gottlieb spot targets with the newer System 3 type, they don't launch the ball into the air like the one's on System 80 games. Your playfields and plastic parts will thank you.
PBR Part# GTB-25460 (switch kit) in yellow $5.94 ea.

Here's the difference in the spot targets for those that are curious. Sorry I don't have any pics of the Spirit's I worked on last year but here's a comparison from a Bounty Hunter I'm in the middle of. I also mylar my targets so they don't wear off if they have print. I use a punch for the rivet cut out and use nail clippers to trim off the excess mylar. Hopefully this will help someone.

What kind of material did you use for the stencils?
Quoted from PappyBoyington:What kind of material did you use for the stencils?
These are stencils used for stencil cutting machines.
Apply them wet as this allows you to squeeze out air bubbles, starting to apply them from the middle of the stencil.
This may need some practising .

Excellent idea. This would probably work on drops, too, right?
Yes, and I do that too .

Thanks. What kind of material are they made of? I would like to know for future restorations. Iv'e used frisket and tape but would like to know what the material is and where you can get it?

These are stickers ( infact I don,t know exactly the difference between stencils / Stickers in englisch ? ) , you will find theme under the name averygraphics or avery dennison

Thierry, when referencing stencils most would think you're making a stencil to place on the cabinet and then paint leaving the artwork on the cabinet whereas you took a material (sticker) and cutout the artwork from that sticker material and then adhered it to the cabinet. Make sense?
I wonder how many spirits are in the US vs. Europe. This is probably the one game I would consider going through re-importation hassle to snag.
Quoted from TigerLaw:$7,500 starting bid. I really wonder what PACMAN's is going to end up going for.
His orig. I would imagine around 5k. Now his restored one..... Who knows?

Ok thanks ! Well it are stickers !
I tried in the past with stencils and paint but often the paint was " bleeding " under the stencil.
This may be an alternative way to restore a cabinet but I agree if you say it is no longer original, a choice you have to make ..
By the way this is my third spirit restoration and maby the last one as they become hard to find in europe as well.

That's what I was thinking too. There will be collectors shanking each other to get at this restored one...

With 1230 made it's hard to find them anywhere. Just get done with your restoration as TigerLaw is waiting to buy it

I will make him a special price somewhere between european and US prices ofcourse if someone else is willing to pay me 7500 dollar
