This is my first attempt at fixing an EM machine. When you select multiple player the number of players in shown on the bottom of the back glass. When player one drains the first ball, it stays on player one and the Ball in play still shows 1. It stays like this no matter how many times the ball drains.

Thanks,
Brad

The player unit is likely gummed up and prevents it from moving to the next ball/player, common if has been sitting for a while. It’s in the back box, note wiper positions if you have disassemble.

With power off you can manually actuate the step up and reset functions of the player unit.

When the ball gets kicked from the out hole to the shooter lane the P/Add Player Unit relay should fire and the Score Motor should run. Are those happening?

That’s your player unit. Needs to be cleaned and reassembled and sweeper realigned. It has paws and pivot points that can stick. Some people use a silicone lube which keeps everything slippery after cleaning. Only thing if not played much it can gum up. Also if your going to take on cleaning it order yourself some springs that it takes. Spring in it might be fine but always nice to have a couple on hand. A weak spring can cause it to malfunction too. Cleaning the player unit is not uncommon maintenance. You can find youtube videos how to do this. Good luck!

That's the Coin unit, just inside the coin door on the right, under the plunger. That's what handles player up and ball count. I just fixed one of these with a similar issue. Clean it, superlube, make sure spring tension is good.

Does the machine work correctly on a single player game?
Is the 1st ball interlock relay activating when the 1st points are scored?
Inspect operation and switches on this relay that they are opening and closing properly. Clean and adjust switches if needed.

Thanks everyone, I will start looking at all of these suggestions. Yes this game does not get played much, (it's not mine but a friends) and has not been serviced in many years.

I found that the player unit was all seized up. I've disassembled it and now cleaning. I don't know if that will fix it but it's gotta help. Most of the score wheels need the same thing.

Thanks Garrett,

I believe that I'm liking the EM games more than SS. There is there is quite a bit more going on. I like the the mechanical stuff.

Okay I have the player unit all back together and ready to start up. The only thing I'm unsure of is the home position. when the 5th (black) cam is closing it's switch, the wiper is in the position shown in attached image. Is this the home position? And is there any advice before I turn the machine on?

Thanks,
Brad

I think it's one more set of contacts to the left. Leave the main shaft alone as it's activated P5A where it is, just loosen the screws for the cam itself and spin it one set of contacts CCW until the Player 1 lights come on.

At least I think that's how it's supposed to be...
