Hi I just purchased a Gottlieb Spin Out. I’m somewhat new to EM’s but have restored many games over the past 20 years from early SS to DMD. This issue I have is the game which had been beautifully restored won’t startup.

First there are no coin hardware and what I believe are the coin switch wires are not connected.

When powered ononly the backbox is lite and the “tilt@ light is flashing.

The previous owner I assumed had played it this way?

My first step is to wire a momentary switch for credit using the coin switch wires. I do not have the schematic and will be ordering one. Can some tell me which wires in the photo to use?

Also I have checked all what I believe are the tilt switches.

Coin door switch is closed NC
Cabinet switch is closed NC
Playfield switch is open NO
Back box switch is closed NC

I suspect it has been wired for free play where should I look to confirm?

Any help is appreciated

Don

No need. Just hook it up for free play as the below link will tell you

Thanks I have the game set to free play per the instructions and I verified the following:

Coin door tilt closed
Cabinet floor tilt closed
Cabinet ball tilt switch open no ball In trough no tilt-Bob
Head tilt closed
Playfield tilt open

When I power the game on only the head lights up and tilt is illuminated. Pressing start button or flipper buttons does nothing. No relays engage including the tilt relay. All fuses removed and checked good.

Here are some photos:

Where should I look next?

To me there is a disconnect between 'beautifully restored' and loose wires left non terminated at the coin door. The pics do not permit a full understanding of the coin door wiring but it appears x1 coin mech may have been removed and the coin lockout not re installed. Be wary/careful of loose/unconnected wires around the coin door.

In terms of the issue (and given you are experienced at resolving non EM machines) be ultra careful but with power to the game I would manually activate the start relay using a wooden prod to check whether that gets any operation and determine where to go next.

If the Start relay (S) doesn't activate when you press the Replay button, Inspect and diagnose this circuit with Alligator clip jumper wires

Ok I activated the start relay. The main motor spins constantly and the the relay banks under the playfield constantly reset as well as the bank in the head. It just repeats never getting by that stage.

How far is it getting in this reset sequence from the Spin Out manual?

Pressing the start button does nothing.

Holding the start relay in (it will not lock on its own) the motor constantly runs while the three relay sets (2 under the playfield and one in the head) constantly reset.

Also the tilt light is on

So I would say it never gets through step 1

To diagnose and fix that particular malfunction, see my post above

Hi everyone sorry its been awhile since I've been able to get back to this game.

I have taken the advice above and tested each and every switch in the startup relay path. I cleaned every switch in the path and tested each by toning each out enshuring they where closed. As a final test I attached on lead on the (or/wh) wire of the start relay switch and the other on the (RED) wire of the transformer thus I had an end to end circuit. I then pressed the start button and received a tone each time indicating a completed circuit!

However when I turn the game on all I get is backbox lighting and the "tilt" light. There are credits and the switch is closed on the "replay" unit.

I would appreciate any advice on what to look at next.

Thanks Don
