Hi Wayne,
I always put a step down inside the machine and then run a conventional Australian 3 pin plug. This will give you an earth that you can run a link to the metal door to make safe as your earth leakage switch will trip at mains should you encounter any problems. The woodies had a floating voltage system which by todays standards is a big no - no. A 200W step down is more than enough to run a single woodie and a hard wired iron core compact type can be bought online really cheaply... until you can get one, just make sure the door is safe and place an insulator ( sheet of plastic or electrical tape) round those cotton coated wires.
Would love to see some pics.. my Rocket Ship arrived just before Xmas, its a game id been after for many years.. whereabouts you located?
