Starting to work on a retheme of a Gottlieb Rock based on the band The Clash. I have never attempted anything like this before so wish me luck! I decided to use a Rock pinball as it was the basis of the Clash virtual pinball created by @Onevox. Going to start simple and first do the translite, playfield plastics and new target decals. Then I will attempt to change some of the music using an MP3 trigger board. Long term I may attempt the playfield and body decals.

Wish me luck!

MP3 Trigger Board

This was the idea I had for the speaker panel plastic.

Sounds like fun!
For what it’s worth, you may want to look into the WAV trigger board. As I understand it, the MP3 board cannot play multiple sounds at the same time, but the WAV can. They refer to it as “polyphonic”.

Good luck!

Thanks for pointing this board out! I was told Pinsound should be coming out with a Gottlieb 80b board in the next while as well.

Here are some of the 3D models I made for the “pro” version. The marquee on the Hammersmith Palais, the pink speaker cab they used, butttons, and a simple Sputnik with the clash painted on it.

I used the Sound System box set as a topper. I animated the cassette spindles, made the tuning bar and power button pulsate a bit.

Here’s the grille panel I imagined for the virtual pin. Rusty speaker grilles, sort of a military style panel. I could fashion this into something printable, if you like it.

Translite in place, lot to do still! Replacement plastics have been ordered and new target, spinner decals. Working on the speaker panel decal next.

UPDATED: Got the plastic pieces and speaker panel/target/spinner decals back from @mr_Tantrum. They came out fantastic! Thanks to Onevox and Mr_Tantrum for helping with the design of the plastic pieces and all the other odds and sods.

MP3 Trigger Board

I used a wav trigger board in my re-theme. It’s a better solution.

Thanks Robert, this is the actual board I am using. It is the Tsunami Super WAV trigger board. Would love to pick your brain once the board arrives next week and I start connecting the triggers. Still not sure how to get the board to stop playing the first sound and trigger the second sound? My plan was to have the first sound start when the start button is pushed and it would play until the ball is drained, then the next song would start. Once I get the hang of it, then I can start to layer on additional sounds in tandem.

For the audio out, can I connect two separate front speakers and and a separate woofer? Thanks for your assistance.

I installed these two test triggers to start. One for the start button and one in the ball trough. Hopefully they do the trick.

Is it not possible just to run new wires to the playfield switches? Is there some kind of conflict of signal? Awesome band and awesome project.

No, 16 trigger inputs are individually selectable for contact closure or 3.3Vcontrol only in the board he chose.

You set that up with the Init File Maker Utility app.

My retheme thread is here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/bally-night-rider-ss-re-theme

I used standard cherry switches to sink to ground. The switches you use may allow voltage to get to the board.

I was able to take lamp voltage through a diode into a relay to trigger sounds: game over, tilt, each player, etc.

Update for Joe Strummer decal for the playfield. Not much progress lately. Waiting for the Pinsound card to come out before I do the remaining work.

Looks great!

Thanks! Will be a big improvement if I can change all the sounds and music on the game. Like to do the body decals at some point.
