Looking to know what the purpose of this board is - mine came disconnected, and noticed the orange/white wire was heatshrinked but not connected, and the modular connector to this board was also disconnected... Any ideas would be great, a schematic or pinout or some explanation would satisfy my curiosity.

The game does play, but loses some sounds after the second or third play through. Not sure if it's a sound ROM or socket issue or something else.

That's the reset board you don't really need it in a home setting. I always leave mine disconnected , it can cause problems with the old caps etc on it. It isn't causing your sound issue. Mike

Thank you for that - I was searching on the part number "MA-164" and found a reference to it on a European site, but without explanation or purpose!

Yes, mine is connected - my guess was a 40 pin socket with a resistor or something.
