So I have a Gottlieb Polo, got all 4 players to work, resets, can play all 4 players to 5 ball/game over. Everything scores on PF. Vari-Target will score and move backwards. But the Vari target will not reset...unless I manually trigger the Z relay which controls reset. I checked all the motor switches and they have connection, no loose wires to the Z relay. Set on reset vari on each ball. The coil tests 33 ohms which is in range with another coil of the same type. I believe 24v is flowing to the coil. Gotta be a bad coil right? Anything I might have missed?

added the fair use relevant parts of schematics

The resistance on the coil sounds good. Did you try to energize the coil with a jumper?

Will try that when I get home from work Bill.

I think a bad coil is pretty far down on the list of likely problems, although a light bulb tester would help to prove or disprove that theory. I think the problem is more likely to be in the switches that fire the Z relay, (like on the O (Outhole?) relay or on the Score Motor at position 4C) or in the connections between those switches and the Z relay.

I got home and started thinking about the Z relay connection to the motor. That took me to the jones plugs for the playfield. Cleaned the ones connected to Z coil and reseated. BAM...it fixed it. Thanks for the ideas MarkG and Billc479. Sometimes new ideas either work or can lead you in new directions and ultimately to the fix.
