Motor 1A is normally thought of as the switch (stack of switches, actually) that dole out 5 pulses per cycle of the score motor. You can see that on the motor timing chart on the schematic. Another function of 1A is to narrow down individual "fat" pulses from other switches on the score motor that each close once per cycle. There is a situation on Playball where that narrowing function is crucial to proper placement of the base runners.
If Motor 1A had a problem, you might also see issues in delivering 500 points and in reset. More likely, the single-pulse-per-cycle switches that are beyond 1A (reading right-to-left) have some issues.
