Performing a Gottlieb Out Of Sight restoration and have come to the apron and shooter gauge portion of the resto.

Cleaned and lightly sanded the apron and applied 5 light to medium coats of Rustoleum Gloss white to the apron.

I expected smooth and glossy finish like original but instead feels rough to the touch now.

    So thinking of:

    1) Wet sand the rough new paint surface and laying down some heavy coats of the same rustoleum gloss white

    2) Wet sand the rough new paint surface and lay down heavy coats of Rustoleum white appliance epoxy paint

    3) Send it out for powder coating

    Thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Dave

Powdercoat will get both sides really nicely - no chance of it rusting underneath.. but its also the most expensive of the 3 choices. You'll probably run in to a minnimum charge of $100 or so, unless you can do a batch of aprons..

How are you planning on reapplying the artwork?

    Pinball Rescue clear decals.

I would try wet sanding down to 2000 grit and polishing with a DA buffer before before sending out to powdercoat.

Wet sanded the previous rough new finish to a flat but smooth finish and then bought and sprayed multiple coats of this. This did the trick! Now have to wait 24 hours to apply the clear decals. Looking forward to nice end result.

And the shooter gauge. Came out good. Better than it was at least. =)

Too bad the decal edges are so visible.

Yeah. I thought so too. But in the game under glass, it won't be as noticeable.

And the owner isn't an OCD collector. This is his one game he has owned since childhood that I am bringing back to life.
Doubt he will even notice the edges as it was in really touch shape prior....
