I am not that great with EM machines to start with but I have a very humbling problem with this pioneer project I picked up. I can’t get the lock down bar off. I thought it was just seized to the machine but it wiggles around on the receiver. The handle will slide freely but the bar will not come loose. Is it possible that the handle has broken loose from the receiver and therefore when I open it the receiver stays locked? If so how should I go about getting that lockdown bar off lol. I appreciate the help

Are you releasing the lockdown bar receiver lever fully? Sometimes the mechanism becomes stiff preventing release.

#3 6 years ago

Thats what I thought at first too but it is pushed as far as it can possibly go.

#4 6 years ago

Anyone have any ideas.

That is a head scratcher? Pushing the latch in the right direction (downward)? Pretty sure that game has the shark fin type bar rather than the adjustable posts. Try working the bar left and right. When it wiggles is the glass moving with it? It could still just be stuck and need a little more force.

Is there a lot of rust? The bar could be rusted to the receiver.

The lockdown on the one I just sold had posts. When I pull the lever or when I move the lockdown bar the glass doesn’t move at all. The lever moves incredibly freely as if it’s not really moving the mechanism at all

No not really. That’s what I initially thought but it wiggles quite a bit so I don’t think it is rusted to the receiver

Use your phone with the flash to take a photo inside the coin door shooting up to the receiver. That should give you a clue. Maybe some dummy used a screw or something.

Ok so there are no screws holding it in. The lever moves freely. The playfield can be pushed up with the lever open or closed. I kind of though the lockdown bar on these locked the playfield too but I’m not sure. The bar wiggles around but will not come loose.

There is a tab on the opposite end of the lever. This tab slides the latching mech that captures the screws on the lock bar.

If the lever moves freely and does not feel like it is moving the latch plate the tab could be broken off the opposite end of the lever. This would be a big problem.

If the lever moves the latch plate then it sounds like the lock bar is stuck to the playfield glass. Can you move the glass up/down a bit without the lock bar following it?

Pictures of the bottom side of the latch mech.

Just another thought. Over the years spills can occur and run under lockdown bar gumming it up and maybe it’s stuck. Take a putty knife and slide it between glass and lockdown bar (CAREFULLY)and maybe get lucky!

As far as the playfield not locking down, you are actually missing part A-11348, which attaches to (1), and when the latch is locked, the pin will lock the playfield down by inserting itself into (2).

The glass moves a little bit and the lock down bar will move side to side and forward and backward a little.

I honestly believe the lever itself has broken. The lever moves freely and easily it does not feel as if the mechanism slides at all inside the receiver when I move the lever.

In your third picture it looks to me like there is a tab of metal either twisted or broken off down in the slot with the lever.

I agree the pictures make it look like this tab that you can see in the pictures of the loose mech I posted may be damaged.

There isn't much access to this area with the latch mech and lockbar and playfield installed. You want to get to that latch plate and push it to the right to get the lock bar to release.

If worse comes to worse you may need to break the playfield glass, remove the retainer bracket at the top of the playfield (6 screws), two brackets at the bottom side of the playfield that clip into the locking mech (6 more screws), and swing the playfield out of the body. You should be able to get to the screws holding the lock bar mech at that point and salvage your lock bar. You'll need a new playfield glass and a lock mech. Both of those together will be cheaper than trying to find a replacement lock bar.

Try to compress the sides of the game slightly with a pipe clamp, just above the lockdown bar and wiggle it again.

#19 6 years ago

I give up. I think the lever is broken. I’ve tried all of the above and can’t get it to come off. I appreciate all of the help but I have a friend who wants the game so I’m just going to pass it on to him.

#20 6 years ago

In one picture I can sort of see a metal tab bent up, suggesting the locking mech is fused in place/wont slide back and forth. I had this on a game once, took the whole cab face off

In this case... break glass, take off the top bar and lift pf out from the top, disconnect it etc. With the pf out take off the shooter and then the 6 mounting screws for the receiver and you should be able to remove the bar and receiver as one piece. With a little luck you can salvage the bar and then one of us can provide a new receiver assy. They are also on ebay...
