When all of the cards are dropped in the back glass, the replay unit coil advances and locks up. The machine is also not set to free play. (operates on a dime)

Is your "G" relay releasing when this happens? Or staying locked on? (I suspect it is staying on)
Is the normally closed switch on the replay unit opening when a replay is commanded? (I suspect this is your issue - It is what releases the "G" relay)
Exactly as you stated. "G" stayed locked in due to a switch at the replay unit staying closed. Found and adjusted switch and now operates perfectly.
Thank you!
