Gottlieb Jungle Kings is stuck in tilt with game over lamp flashing. All three tilt switches are open. There are lights on in the backbox and no other life from the PF or bottom of the cabinet. Had a burnt subtract coil and replaced that and cleaned the stepper unit. Fuses checked good. The hold relay is not being engaged.

What else should I look for? Thanks again.

Did the game ever work while in your possession?

#3 1 year ago

No, but previous owner said he was working then smelled burnt smell and didn't work since.

If putting in a coin doesn't activate the Start (S) relay, inspect and diagnose this circuit with Alligator clip jumper wires.

Making some progress. The fuse was blown and therefore "S" relay was not engaging. The "S" relay will engage and the score motor now turns. There is a violent spark coming off of motor 1A, but game is still in tilt.

There are 2 switches on motor 1A, Red&White/Orange&Blue and Red&White/Green&Yellow. Which one is it?

Thanks for the help on this. It's the top one, OR+BL.

It's just possible that the Motor 1A switch should be feeding current so check if it's clean and adjusted right. If so, try blocking these 3 circuits/switches with paper one at a time to see which circuit Motor 1A is feeding.

For a switch to work 3 things are necessary
1) When open, there should be a small space between the contact points (duh)
2) When closing, the long blade's contact point should push the short blade's contact point enough to move the short blade
3) The contact points should be clean, which they usually will be if #2 is happening

Cleaned and adjusted the switch and blocked the switches with a piece of paper, but still has a pretty good spark on it.

If you blocked all 3 connections and that Motor 1A switch is still sparking then you have a short somewhere in the Orange+Blue wire. That kind of thing could take some persistence to find.

How comfortable are you with EM repair and how good are you with soldering?

I have a circuit breaker on the 10A fuse, and it occasionally trips. The hold relay is the one pulled out on the top of the video.

Start relay pulses along with W, H, and R. Shouldn't the hold relay to locked on? I checked both switches connected to the yel-bl wire.

**Just saw your post. I am fine with soldering and working on EMs. I just don't work on them too often.

1) The first thing I'd try is unsolder the Orange+Blue wire from all its non-motor connections and see what happens then.
2) Next, guess the shortest route where the wire goes through the wiring harness and see if you can figure out what might be causing the problem
3) Last resort but guaranteed to work - trace the actual wire through the wiring harness

Persistence always pays off but if you'd like to talk on the phone, send your # in a private message.
