Great News!!! After running to the local dollar general and buying a .75cent pack of nail files, I cleaned all of the front rack of switches - very gently. Didn't want to damage but clean. The big thing is, thinking over your above instructions, looking at why one would be closed, the other open, then looking closer at my machine, where the rack was pushed back and left for so long, it had just closed all the normally open switches. So one by one, adjusting and checking, it was the "Last Ball" relay switch was making the whole issue (or a combination of all) - I can set it to multi player, and I can run through all the balls! IT"S WORKING! IT"S ALIVE! It looks great and plays great, just needed the TLC!

OK - last item on this one - on the credit wheel - when ever it gets down to one (1) left, it will not start up. The little pin is hitting a switch. What's up here? An how do I set this to free play? I read the site, making the smaller, middle switch norm closed, but I cant get this to work....its' the last thing to call this one complete (Besides a cleaning and rubber/lights change)

#102 5 years ago

IMO, Hot Shot is a horrible game to repair.. Were you able to get the 2nd player lamps to lite at the end of the game?

#103 5 years ago

I always forget which switches set the game to free play.. Instead of bending the switch blades, sometimes I'll just use a jumper wire at the solder ends of the switches to close. I believe it is the middle set of switches that need to be closed for free play.

Glad the game is up and running!

Thanks again for all the help! And yes. All lights for all players and balls working

I did change the bulbs for the 00 10 20 -90. But I don’t see them lighting up. So not sure what those are for? If It’s for every 10 points per player. They’re not coming on

#105 5 years ago

One of the ten 00-90 lamps should be lit when the game ends. If the last two digits of the score match the displayed # lit, you should be awarded one credit and the knocker should activate. The small stepper in the head of the game advances the position of the 00-90 lamps each time 10 points is scored. A switch riding the cam of the small stepper activates alternating relay which changes the Special when lit and 1000 when lit from right to left each time 10 points is scored.

#106 5 years ago

Aha ! Found a loose wire right where you should said to look. Pulled back the cloth and touched it to the lonely solder point and viola the light came on. There is another wire on the other side and another solder point open. Think that one does there too?

Now if I can just get this credit wheel to work correctly. Or maybe it is and I’m doing something wrong ?

The credit mech isn’t that important if you are not putting it on location. You could “misadjust” it so that the switch is always closed and it will always start a game. No need to credit it up. That’s free play for an EM.

#109 5 years ago

So if i “close “ the smaller middle switch with say a paper clip or gator clip. It won’t then rotate and all plays with the start button?

#110 5 years ago

Hi guys, glad your posting on this machine .I have a big shot I bought on craigslist last year.i will help with some pics if needed.may need some myself as game I bought was basket case.(have cosmetics done and backbox machanix about finished.).about ready to pick up where I left off last spring.will it be alright to get some pics if needed.again I'll read through this thread tommorrow so I can better understand where your at.you might ask a tech on forum like Howardr if he can help.im sure he or a few others can get you going.

It will rotate, but remain on free play.

#112 5 years ago

I’ll take any photo needed. Just ask. My issue when it rotated around and either one of the pins touch the switch blades it will not restart ????

#113 5 years ago

Another quick update. I think it’s dunn! (Except for general cleaning and new rubber).
For the match lighting I simply put in two jumpers. (Wasn’t a lot left on the wire tips and not the best at detail soldering). This seems to be working. They stay off until after a game. Then one set comes up then the motor rotates and a second set comes up. I’m thinking if there’s a match I hear the knock

On the credit reel. Somewhere I’ve read you have to have it a zero (0) before making the middle switch connected semi perm.
I just put an alligator clip on it and so far it is not rotating. It’s starting no issues. Free games.

I can’t believe its now working. 100% everthjng. Every light. Switch. Drop Bumper. All of it ! (Prob won’t tomorrow. Lol).

Great stuff guys!! Pics help a lot. I see something on the credit stepper switches that looks a little funny. May be an issue or may be just me. Take a look at the single switch. It’s meant to be an upper limit or max credit. It looks to me to be open. Hard to tell for sure from the angle of the pic though. It should be closed normally and only open when the credit stepper pin hits it after a high number of credits is added. Close that switch and see if it behaves differently for your credit situation when you reach one credit left

Awesome! These are some of the best threads on Pinside. You learned a ton about EMs in a short period of time. Hot Shot is actually a really good one to learn on. It can be a bugger. I know that mine was really satisfying to finally fix the bonus and other nagging issues.

#116 5 years ago

Great thread. Lots of good info here. Pinball Brian, lets get you going now! Can tell Bonzo has a great deal of experience to draw from here. I’m enjoying the learn.

Ok,you see switches seperated.is anyone very familiar with this game.if switches touch, where i seperated them .it blows fuse.any ideas where to look.im not that good with gott schems.but have one for this game.

#122 5 years ago

Take the paper out of the H relay and send a close pic of the contacts from the side. So all switches and the white plastic ladder can be seen. Check all the wires soldered to the switches to make sure none of the terminals are physically touching, Sometimes its something as simple as that. Send me a scan of the schematic or overlapping pics in a PM. Don't post Gottlieb Schematics on Pinside.

#124 5 years ago

Thanks nikrox2.some close ups of the relays would be awsome, showing wire color and switches ( type of switch and direction it's pointed especially the last three on right side going by your pic you just posted.i will try and post pic of my burnt relays and wires.(bought machine this way).have new plastic ladders for relays.so will change out.again thanks.(pafasa,)here are pics you requested.

Pafasa got me up and running. Great peeps on here. I’ll get some other pics but for tech assistance he is the man

#127 5 years ago

Hey,thanks for your help.as you can see,it has a couple wiring issuesyes, pafasa seems to the right man.i sent him a copy of my schems .I'm sure with you guys helping,it won't be collecting dust much longer,ha ha.again thanks for posting pics.i hope by the end of this thread there's a lot of useful info and pics for someone else to get there's going.or if I forget something later.i can look back.

#128 5 years ago

I forgot to mention,I will be cleaning those three relays, replacing ladders and switches,so I will be ready to continue tommorrow evening or when you guys are ready,I know you have lives also.again thanks for your help.i don't think I could do this totally alone as I am not familiar with 2 or 4 player machines.

#129 5 years ago

Hey guys.ended up getting a lot done quick.waiting for your replys.again thanks.

Something looks funny to me on the add bonus relay. Like the armature is out of position.

#131 5 years ago

Hi pafasa,I double checked relay, were good.im ready to proceed.i would like to find my short.another pinsider told me to sesperate h relay switches and see if lights worked.but never came back to help after that.so this is where I left off last spring.i took pic to show you the fuse that blows.#3 .any ideas or suggestions?again thanks for not leaving me hanging.

#132 5 years ago

sorry im slow but havent left. Ill stick with you until we get it running. How good are you with a multimeter?

#133 5 years ago

post some pics of all the fuses if possible. labels on the fuses if they still exist. I want to see wire colors so I can identify the fuses.

#134 5 years ago

I have one, just put in new battery.i watched some youtube vids on how to check coils, ect.but not expert.may need to know some multi dial settings as we go.but think we will be ok.

Thanks Bonzo!

#137 5 years ago

Sorry, did not see earlier post about my fuses.here are pics.the pair together is underside of playfield. The three together are by the tilt mech, the two singles are bottom relay board, with 5 amp closer to backbox.

#138 5 years ago

And the one that blows when the tilt hold relay "H" is activated is the one labeled "3" with blue sharpie?

#139 5 years ago

That's correct.#3 .2 amp slo blo.

#140 5 years ago

That fuse should be a 10 amp standard fuse

#141 5 years ago

I told you he was good! Ok. Make that great! For us noob’s (speaking for myself) I didn’t have a clue. And each time for every game be it an EM or a SS there are peeps here that know their stuff and help us! I’ll always pay it forward here on pinside! It’s peeps like Pafasa that renews my hope in humanity !

#142 5 years ago

very nice of you to say Nikrox2. Don't put me too high up on that pedestal. I'm a noob compared to many EM guys here. Love this stuff though. Hopefully this was just a wrong fuse situation. If not, we will start troubleshooting. I don't currently own any EM machines so I have to play with others'.

#143 5 years ago

You were right,my fuses were installed backwards.but still fuse blows ,10 amp in # 3 spot.also,I did not have playfield plugged in but do have back box plugged in.again thank you guys for helping.

#144 5 years ago

always have machine turned off when connecting and disconnecting the jones plug connectors.

OK. Lets take half of the machine out of this equation. There are 4 (i think) wire harnesses that come up from the cabinet to the backbox. unplug all harnesses from the backbox. Also, leave the playfield unplugged. turn on the machine and watch that fuse.

If no fuse blows, then the next step will be to plug in the playfield and try again. Dont forget to power off while messing with connectors.

THen one backbox connector at a time, etc...

note when the fuse blows and let us know.

take some time to read through and study this topic. It is FULL of great EM circuit help

#146 5 years ago

Disconnected back box also.fuse blows,so I guess we know short is on bottom relay board.here is pic of open backbox,I only have two plug ins from cabinet.

Got it. I had Hot Shot (4-player version) stuck in my head. Yes, the issue is somewhere in the bottom cabinet. Disconnect the playfield and lift it out of the way to make room and get a good flashlight and multimeter ready. Your eyes are your best tool right now. Inspect all wires where they are attached to switch terminals to make sure no bare ends are touching that should not be. Start around the tilt hold relay. go slow and check every terminal on every relay. look for any obvious repairs....electrical tape, wire nuts, other things that seem out of place. Then we will start checking continuity (beep) with the meter. This may get a bit tricky so be patient.

#149 5 years ago

Everything ready.

#150 5 years ago

Wait!!! get us a closer pic of the wire harnesses coming up from the lower cabinet. I just looked at your backbox pic again and noticed the duct tape around one of the harnesses and the apparent repairs on the other one. Lets look closer at those! your wires could very well be shorted inside there due to a previous repair. lets see those closer up.
