I bought a Genie last week at a very nice price for a beautiful example. I talked them down because while it would start up, it wouldn't play. I've gotten some molex pins and a crimper for re-pinning, and I've replaced any loose pins in the backbox. Please see the video at the link below for what I see on the display.

My A1J6 connector also appears pretty battery damaged (image attached). Does anyone have experience with a similar problem? It sounds pretty textbook for these from what little I've read.

My question is - Based on the display, is that likely what's causing the problem, and if so, is it possible to save the CPU board or should I start looking at the Flippp? I went in knowing I might have to go that way, but if I can save that kind of money I'd like to explore any option.

I'm new to all this, any direction you can point me in will be helpful.

Your video looks like it is because of an open 'SLAM Switch' which is connected through A1J6.
Repin J6 and check if the SLAM contact is OK ( it need to be closed )

Should work afterwards, if not, before looking at the Flippp, you may also consider looking at LISY1 http://www.lisy80.com/

That's very interesting, I hadn't seen the LISY1 before. It would certainly keep the cost down.

I re-pinned any obvious issues yesterday, but I will repin the entire connector and see if I am able to get a connection. Thanks!

so looking at the slam switch on the door, it is bent open. Still not 100% that I have a solid A1J6 connection, but if I did, it still wouldn't connect.

I've got a buddy with soldering experience who can mod the board per the pinrepair guide in a few days, but has anyone just bent an out of shape slam tilt back? I'm trying to think of a good way to cause it to make reliable contact.

so we've made the mod, and I now get a proper boot (wait 5 seconds, then high scores)

but I still can't start a game, so I'm still having issues either at A1J6 connector or in the coin mech. Does anyone have any reading on this? I suspect it's board damage, as there is definitely some visible, but I'd like to go over the coin mech before spending money on a replacement cpu.

I would guess that your MPU is working OK, but you should again check your A1 J6 connection!
Did you recrimp A1J6 and did clean the edge connector?
Does any of the switches in the coin door make contact, can you enter the test routine?
You have 'start',Coin#1 #2, 'test' and 'tilt' switch there: http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Gottlieb_System_1#Switch_Matrix

I'll go through these switches next, I have re-pinned the connector and wiped down the connector on the MPU, but there is some battery damage visible there.
