I have just powered on the machine for the first time and tried to start a game. The machine goes through the starting sequence but just before it would kick a ball up, it blows the 15a fuse (25volt). I have my test circuit breaker in there so I dont go broke from fuses Anyway, while is is going through the motions, Players 3 and 4 say lit while players 1 and 2 blink back and forth. Sometimes it stops on one and sometimes on two.

I havent started going through anything else yet. Just thought it may be something simple.

Thanks!

Checked. All steppers will move with no issues. Also pulled and checked each score unit and advanced the scores. When starting a game, all scores reset to zero and then POOF fuse blows as it tries to pull in the reset bank.

Quoted from DirtFlipper:Check all the steppers (including the Player Unit in the backbox) and make sure none are seized up.

Just checked: If I disconnect the PF, it does not blow the fuse and seems to start a game. If I plug back in the mini plug into the head, and the large plug into the cab from the PF but leave the smaller one unplugged from the bottom of the pf, then it does not blow the fuse.
It seem like I have an issue with something on the PF

Quoted from DirtFlipper:

I think the last thing that happens in the startup sequence is the 'U' relay energizes, and a switch closing there completes a path to reset the two drop target banks, and the Control bank.
Might try blocking the switch on U and see if preventing the bank resets avoids the fuse blowing. Then that might further narrow it down.

If I block the U relay, it does not pop the fuse but the game keeps cycling.

Blocked orange and purple and the game just cycles over and over resetting the drop targets. Blocking blue and yellow blows thebfuse.

It looks fine. Pulled it off the line. All switches are correct and plenty of movement.

Can you post a picture of it?

Quoted from DirtFlipper:

Sorry, not the U relay, the Control Bank reset coil (big coil mounted on the control bank with the plunger).
(U is working OK; that's not where the problem is. We need to look at the Control Bank reset coil.)

It seems fine and normal. The coil pulls in like it should. Game over and last ball relays arc but that's it.

I've never tested a coil with my meter. Can you give me detailed steps? Like what setting on my meter and what to look for. Thanks

Pulling that fuse makes it act like you're describing. With the fuse pulled, I measured and got all 0's....

#21 8 years ago

Now that coil is just locked on...

#23 8 years ago

The bank is buzzing and won't blow the 15a. I can get it to blow by manually closing the hold relay(I think).

I'll replace the coil as I get no resistance from the lugs.

Anything else I should order while I'm at it?

Thank you for the help!!

Okay so I just turned it on. Something is locked on in the reset bank. I hit a button to start a game and now the (whatever the bank is in the base of the cabinet that spins in a circle...scoring motor?) Is just spinning non stop. I can get it to stop and blow the fuse by manually pulling the reset bank bar. I'm headed to work now. Thanks.

We are back to it cycling through and then blowing the fuse. Here is the pic of the bank and here is the pic of where the scoring motor is when it pops. Resetting the fuse makes it advance about 1 in. I'd be more than happy to do a video as well.

I checked those and none seem to be groundi g on the chassis.

So if I'm reading this right, my machine is making it through the entire start up and is popping the fuse at the serve ball step which is last...

#32 8 years ago

I have a frozen solid pop bumper coil. I'm betting that is what's blowing the fuse....

Eureka!! I cut the lugs off of that coil and we do not blow a fuse. So the B relay under the PF now is arcing. There is no play for the relay to engage. Pulling that off now...

#35 8 years ago

That did it. I just need to replace that pop bumper coil/assembly, the shooter rod, 4 billion light bulbs and we'll be good to go.

#37 8 years ago

I checked and we are good. The other pops work as they should. That relay was freaking because I had the pop's switch closed (doh!) It's been a while since I've worked on an em. I really appreciate all the help. Pinside rocks yet again!
